Liars and Crooks
My husband and I were trying to sell our house as we were in the process of building a new one. We knew that there was a lien on our current home because of my husband's past tax issues. We were referred to Signature Tax Service and decided to give it a try.
First we spoke to Alexa. She was kind, considerate, and thoughtful. She asked, "If it costs you $2,000 to get all of this fixed, would you do it?" The second phone call was with a very brash, rude, pushy man who would not let my husband or me get a word in. "Do you want the lien off your house or do you want 'it' resolved?" "Both," was our response. "$1,950."
Did we get this in writing? Nope! Using fear tactics of saying things like: the IRS has you in collections; they could come after your house right now; they could garnish your wages, they'll take the money out of your closing, etc. All we wanted was to sell our house. We sheepishly read off our credit card number.
Eleven days later (yes, I counted and have the statement to prove it), they came back to us and needed more money. This time they wanted $1,500 and allegedly it was to "keep the lien off the house." The same day we provided the $1,500 is the same day they came back to use with a payment plan to the IRS. The plan was this: pay the IRS $320 for 3 months and they (Signature Tax) would keep the lien off the house. Sounds good, right?
Lien is removed. We sold our house. Three months go by. We have paid all three payments of $320. Guess who calls? Signature Tax! Oh and by the way, we have to KEEP making payments to the IRS until March.
So why are we upset?
1) Lied about the first amount being the ONLY amount we'd have to pay them.
2) Never provided anything in writing to us about our agreement. It was all verbal.
3) Never made themselves available via phone after we paid the money.
4) Lied about the payment plan to the IRS.
5) Now they are sending me some legal letter for us to sign so that they are covered.
6) The man that called my husband and claimed to be the owner is the rudest person and it's a shame that he would speak to a customer that way.
They used fear tactics every step of the way. They are crooks and liars.
