My honest review of the Simploo mini

My honest review of the Simploo mini:

Pros:
- Customer after care
- The sleek design
- no smell from the solids (we have the fan and carbon filter)

However although I really want to love the toilet it really does need a lot of work to be truly practical . We have had lots of parts break and require replacements which I will give to Simploo they replace without question. However….

Cons
- The 3d printed parts are cheaply made and are not made to last (which is most of the toilet)
- The toilet cannot withstand daily use without elements failing within a year
- within two weeks of using, the pee sensor broke, so really it’s just a novalty
- Our pee pot began leaking
- replacements can take time, not ideal when you are full time in a camper and rely on the product
- the pee bottle needs refining and the mineral build up in the pee bottle means daily cleaning and isn’t pleasant
- although they provide replacements for the broken parts I feel it shouldn’t break in the first place so frequently, and it’s just a real inconvenience especially when on the road.

Overall I want to love but it doesn’t hold up to daily use, so for the cost I would look elsewhere, for something with a more reliable build, unless Simploo improve the quality of its build.

Edit* I’d like to add some clarity to the next day per bottle replacement. I reached out saying our pee bottle was leaking and I’d like to order a (paid for) replacement and that we are going away on a trip for three months in 2.5 weeks, they originally said at a replacement would take 3-4 weeks as it’s not a stocked item and there was nothing more they could do. She then found a bottle lying around and then I paid for it this evening and she shipped the spare. It was only by luck they found a spare bottle otherwise it would have taken 4 weeks ans we would have been left on our trip with a leaking bottle. Currently waiting for the bottle to be delivered and will be inspected then.

The worst purchase of our van conversion project

This review is based on our ownership of the Simploo mini from 2022. It's taken a while as we wanted to give the product the best chance.

The product - great looks which first attracted us to the Simploo, but at a great compromise of quality and robustness. Since we purchased the first Simploo, we've had the following replacements. A replacement lid assembly. An entirely new replacement loo. A replacement wee guard. A new base to reinforce the entire unit as both of our Simploos split at the base. The magnets to hold the solids flap back when in use have rusted in both Simploos and have fallen off. We've scavenged the lid from the original loo to replace the lid on the new loo. This lid has now warped like the original. The wee level detector has never worked consistently on either loo. The fan does nothing for smells.

Throughout ownership Simploo have dealt with every problem quickly and efficiently. We did tire of hearing that we were the only customers who had experienced " that problem", when its clear to see that many other people have had the same.

However, we're both tired of having to make contact to correct issues for Simploo and have decided to replace the unit with a Thetford product at 1/5 th of the Simploo price.

Just for clarity, my partner made the purchase so my name may not appear on the order records.

Highly recommended

I’ve been using simploo toilet in my van every day for over 2 years and I couldn’t be happier with it.
The quality is excellent, it’s surprisingly comfortable, and maintenance is straightforward. Emptying is quick and hassle free and even after several days of use, there’s no unpleasant odour. I honestly wouldn’t swap it to anything else.
What deserves a special appreciation is their outstanding customer service. It’s hands down the best I’ve ever experienced. The team ,especially Kate, is incredibly attentive, responds quickly, and genuinely cares about their customers.
This is a fantastic product backed by an equally fantastic team. I highly recommend it to anyone considering a composting toilet.

It was less than 18 months before the product pretty much crumbled, all the parts for the fan are 3d printed so fell apart and are useless, the toilets cracked in several places. It's literally in bits with screws sticking out, it's dangerous to even use.

It's not fit for purchase, £600 is a heck of a lot of money to spend on a toilet that doesnt make it a year and a half.

Tried contact simploo several times on the subject and received zero response.

Do not waste your money on this product.

- in response to their reply, the order was placed under my husband's name and emails would have been sent from his email too.

*UPDATE* -

Simploo are now in contact, they reached out after seeing I'd left this review, said they had no records of any of our emails to them about previous complaints, I will update and alter this view to reflect the outcome of their customer services.

Urine Leaks

Firstly the customer service from Simploo has been excellent. Unfortunately we've needed to contact them a lot as the product hasn't been fit for purpose. Having now had to mop up urine from the bathroom floor for a second time in less than a year we've been forced to give up and purchase an alternative - a very expensive and highly unpleasant mistake and you're advised to avoid making the same.

We've had the Simploo Mini for under two years. During that time almost every component has broken. Up until now each of them has been replaced without any fuss but after the latest leak we've had to give up. The toilet is largely made up of 3D printed material and it isn't up to the job. The vanity cover is flimsy and has broken several times. The lid itself is made of good quality plastic but the hinge holding it in place is also 3D printed and has literally crumbled apart. The worst problem however has been the urine bucket.

A few months ago we discovered a puddle of urine across the bathroom floor. It took some while to discover it had leaked from the urine bucket, not only through the bucket itself but also through the main toilet casing and onto the floor. Simploo provided us with a temporary smaller bucket (which quite honestly is of a far superior manufacture) and after some weeks replaced the original urine container. At that time we were led to believe it was perhaps our use of cleaning products that had contributed to the failure of the bucket.

With the new bucket we haven't used any cleaning products at all (which hasn't been ideal) to avoid any issues, however last night we discovered another puddle of pee leaking from beneath the Simploo toilet. There can be no doubt this time that this is due to the use of unsuitable materials and the urine container isn't fit for purpose.

If you're using it as an occasional toilet in a van it may just be good enough for your needs but if you're expecting to rely on it for regular use you'd be sensible to use an alternative. The Simploo Mini simply isn't god enough.

So after you have deleted my review from 6 days ago, here is again from my other account so you can’t say it anymore you are unable to find my contact information in your database because I have proof of purchase and emails with this account! ;) Also just so you know Trustpilot is for us to write our honest reviews, it’s so wrong to delete them or to tell people that they shouldn’t leave reviews without contacting you first.

NEVER EVER AGAIN!!!
We have bought simploo mini for over £600 in 2023 but we only started to use it exactly 2 months ago when we have started our travel journey so we are out of warranty. About a month ago it’s started to fell apart that we had to use a glu gun to repair the flip and the top ring on the urine bottle. Just right now while I’m writing this review we have noticed small pieces of plastic on the floor just to find out that one of the leg has broken off completely too.. I agree 1000% with all the other reviews that it’s no more than a cheap 3D printed buckets and components for £600 it’s ridiculously expensive!!! Urine has gone everywhere to the back too so you have to pee very carefully otherwise you end up cleaning both buckets every time. We are using bin bags for the solids not the provided bucket because we don’t want to end up being stinky and messy even more. We are emptying and cleaning the urine bottle every day and using spray and wipe every time after peeing but even then it’s still stinks so badly that it’s unbearable and disgusting…. 🤮 This is our biggest regret of purchase we ever made for our campervan… I feel so bad that I did convince my partner to buy this cause he wanted to buy a £10 cheap bucket with a toilet seat and I’m pretty sure that would have been 💯 times better choice. I would NEVER EVER recommend buying any type of Simploo because it’s clearly made out of cheap materials that would never cost over £600!! Please believe to all the negative reviews, I know you want a nice and tidy looking toilet just like myself but trust us and DO NOT choose Simploo!

Not bad, but a lot of issues. And 4 years of life at most.

It's a decent designed toilet which looks nice but has a lot of design issues which should be worked on. The 3d printed handles and spacers don't work well and will eventually all fail.
The pee alarm has a 3 months life at best, and you are bound to have leaks from gaps or just from overflow.
Also it's very difficult to clean it, as dismantling it takes a lot of work and is definitely where the design really fails.
After 4 years of use, the plastic has started corroding from inside and the smell won't go away no matter how much we clean it. Probably because it's just not possible to clean it properly. So I'd say that's the life of the product.

2 years in the simploo nano is a truley…

2 years in the simploo nano is a truley awful product. the design of the seperation has not taken no regard for the female anatomy. the fixings have all rusted the cover randomly closes mid deposit leaving you with an awful mess to clean. the texture left from the 3d print give batiria and gunk a lovely place to hide and grow all sorts of delightful life. the pee level sensor gets stuck on once your pee bottles gets even the slightest amount of scale build up. all in all its just an overpriced gimiky product that fails to provide it intended service.

We have had ours now for over 18 months and as we full time in our Motorhome it’s used every day. For our Pan American Highway trip it’s perfect and a game changer.

It’s a fantastic bit of kit and I’d certainly recommend it.

Had a couple of very minor issues and always found the customer service first class.

Reading some of the reviews I do wonder if it’s user error as we don’t get a smell at all and Liquids / solids both go where they should. It’s so easy to use.

excellent customer service

excellent customer service, I broke a part of my Simploo and Kate send me an entire new loo! Very kind of her, no qualms and excellent communication throughout.

Will definitely be recommending Simploo to everyone who want's a good quality compost toilet.

I don’t understand the previous bad reviews, especially re leaking. It’s not possible unless they have damaged it? We’ve had our Simploo for two years, living in our van full time. It’s a composting toilet, so expectations should not be the same as a fully watered toilet…even the Natures Head (which is double the price) has its issues but the Simploo toilets, for us have been amazing. It’s our second composting toilet, the first being awful and has changed our living experience drastically. We love ours and had a great experience so not sure why these other people are being so rude.

For the price this is not worth your time!
Very poor 3d printed parts! Have had to use a glue gun to stick parts back togither, other parts have been broken behond repair and to be honest, the after market service was good, however only to be relaced with more cheap 3d printed parts . The unit also leaks is hard to clean and also stinks out the van, sorry team but maybe try a wooly hat businesses before selling the load of junk you sold me

I have now had our loo for a couple of…

I have now had our loo for a couple of months. This is my biggest regret on buying a product for my campervan, Conversion This product is simply cr@p!! Pee leaks out into the bottom. The flap doesn’t stay back when needing a number 2.. the fan doesn’t take the smell away.. the bathroom stinks all the time even after bleaching and not using it.. emptying is just absolutely gross 🤮 it’s a total waste of £500 plus I will be Reverting back to the cassette type toilet as I simply can’t cope with the smell and getting full of pee every time I need to empty it.

Simploo mini waste of money

Simploo mini. Waited 6 weeks to arrive and been using it a couple of months now.

It’s essentially two very expensive 3D printed buckets in a bigger bucket with a toilet seat and a fan.

The pee pot leaks out the “lid” sides and even the smallest amount will splash out during a drive in the camper. you’ll go to empty it and find the bottom of the main bucket is full of pee even after a single use. So you get covered in pee and it drips everywhere. Then you have to clean up all the pee, which for us means unbolting it from the floor to empty or use a full roll of kitchen roll and antibacterial wipes.

Either that or as other people have said, it could be that it’s not designed well for women and my wife has been missing without realising.

The pee alarm doesn’t appear to work either. I’ve heard it once and never since even when it was practically overflowing (and pee was seeping out the sides of the badly sealed lid section)

Also, don’t believe anyone who tells you that the carbon filters mean that the solids won’t smell… because they do, the filter doesn’t do anything other than cost you more money on your plastic throne. The draft on your cheeks is at least pleasant. Used once for solids… never again.

Overall we’re hugely disappointed and wish we had just bought a far cheaper, proven and properly sealed porta-potti. Waste of money.

Had an issue with our Simploo Mini. From contacting Kate at Simploo we were given an immediate resolution.

The customer service at this company is exemplary and other companies should take note. If you are in the market for this type of item I wouldn't hesitate to purchase from them.

Great Product: Simploo Original and Simploo Mini

We love our Simploo so much we've bought two now! We started off with the Simploo Original in our Campervan and loved it. A few upgrades like directing the pee would have made it better.
Therefore for our new van build we have gone for the Simploo Mini as it does exactly that. It also has a bigger pee capacity and a built in pee alarm (as our first one broke).

Communication has with the company has been nothing but nice and they even 3d printed us a spare pee bottle for our Simploo Mini (on request)!

After sale service

i had trouble with a plastic defect and crack on the hinge of my loo .On contacting Simploo i was very pleased that they sent me a replacement I am delighted both with their response and how they dealt with my problem Well done
