I wished I had read this page before employing this company.
I had read the reviews on their website and obviously they are fictional.
The job this company did for me was an absolute debacle.
They only had 16 items to move for me, going to another house 11kms away. It took them 6 hours, and as it was 2 of the items they did not put on their truck.
The two men who arrived were certainly NOT PROFESSIONAL.
They decided to dismantle a desk and a treadmill, loosing screws to both so neither can be reassembled until I buy new screws.
It says in their contract that they cover all furniture and yet only 3 blankets were used and one of the headboards was damaged.
I kept getting told that “ it was just too hard “
When I booked them I explained that the apartment had stairs and the front house had a power wire to it that crossed the drive. They did not need a huge truck as there was only 16 items. ( the truck was only 1/3 full) and then they could have come up the drive.
Every time they took something out to the truck they took ages to come back in. They never moved out of first gear. Our neighbours said you certainly employed cowboys there!
I told them that they certainly were not professional and they refused to leave until they had been paid. I have rung the office twice to speak to someone in charge and told the people answering the phone what I was complaining about, but have had no response from a manager/ owner.

Worst experience of my life!!! Both frightening and frustrating..
We had a big truck booked for 7.30-8am arrival as was going to take 2 loads to move and we needed to have everything moved today,
We get a call at 7.45 saying the truck wouldn’t start and they wouldn’t arrive until 11am, 11.30-11.45 came around and we are trying to call but got no answer, they arrived at 2pm!!!
They loaded the truck very slowly and with no care, my partner did most of the loading and heavy lifting as they refused too, was watching on security cameras and everytime my partner turned away from them they were trying to break our furniture items!!! They arrived here at 5.30pm to unload again partner did most of it on his own, they finished unloading at 8pm then demanded payment on the spot, we asked for a breakdown on invoice to look over and would pay it once we have a chance to sit down and look it over (tonight or tomorrow) the movers stood knocking on our door for nearly 2 hours whilst on the phone to others talking loudly demanding payment as well as constantly calling and texting my number,
Because of the delay of their arrival we have lost all fridge and freezer items for to being out of fridge and freezer since 7.30am awaiting their arrival at that time as booked, they had no care for the disruptions they had caused and continued demanding the money be paid now…
We called the police and whilst on the phone they realised we had and they left…
Be aware of this moving company!! What should have been the best day of our lives moving into our new home turned into a day of nightmares

Turned up an hour early, then sat in their truck for 30 minutes until we started moving stuff out ourselves. Smashed a light fitting, no apology or offer to repair. Refused to move mountain bike, queen bed base, a dresser, and gym equipment. Claimed it was because the items weren't dismantled (the bed and dresser were). They appeared to regularly argue together about how to move things. Language barrier made communication difficult. Worked slowly, so we ended up helping to get things unpacked. Then demanded payment at the doorstep. Job should have cost $570 (including the 30minutes they sat in the truck for), but they demanded over $800. I stupidly paid as I wasn't sure what to do. No invoice provided. Emailed the company with complaint and did not receive any response.

DO NOT TRUST THIS SERVICE, TERRIBLE MOVERS I HAVE SEEN SO FAR.

These people absolutely terrified and terrible, we wrapped and packed all stuff nicely but they messed it up, all boxes delivered very wet. Most of boxes damaged and mixed up with other people stuff.

I was initially booked for 3pm, then on the day of moving, they call to say they had an issue with the truck I'd booked and needed to move the moving time five hours ahead. They then broke the very thing that I had booked them to transport for me, and despite having made two requests, they still have not given me a receipt.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was extremely disappointing. Our move was booked for 10:00am and the team only showed up at 9:00pm.
During the day we were given multiple updates with constantly changing times. First there was a truck breakdown, then no availability until later, and then we were told they were waiting for a truck coming from another city. This went on for hours and left us stuck at home all day.
Rescheduling was suggested, but it wasn’t an option since we had to hand over the property that same day.
Although the movers did a good job when they finally arrived, the overall service was unreliable and very stressful. A full day wasted waiting is simply not acceptable.

WORST MOVING COMPANY IN NZ!!!!!!!!!

I had an extremely disappointing experience with Smart Movers and would not recommend them to anyone.

We booked a 10:00am–12:00pm arrival window for our move in Papakura Thursday 2nd April 2026. The movers didn’t show up until 12:30pm — already setting the day behind schedule. Only two movers arrived, and they worked very slowly the entire time. Communication was also a major issue, as there was a clear language barrier which made the whole process frustrating and inefficient.

They refused to carry drawers that were already taped shut and insisted I empty them completely, which wasted even more time. When moving large furniture down from the second floor, they caused significant damage to both the walls and the furniture. This damage ultimately cost us our bond.

Throughout the move, they repeatedly disappeared to the truck for long periods, often standing around talking instead of working. Their truck was also too small, meaning they couldn’t fit everything in one trip.

During the job, they even asked me to go and buy them coffee, promising it would be deducted from the final bill — it wasn’t.

The most concerning part was payment. With only around three-quarters of our belongings loaded and their undersized truck completely full; their boss called and the movers then pressured and intimidated me into paying the full projected amount upfront ($1362 for 9 hours) before the job was finished or they would empty the truck and leave me high and dry.

Because they arrived late, we were forced to travel during peak traffic, turning what should have been a 45-minute drive into nearly 2 hours — wasting more paid time.

I then had to help unload the truck myself, and despite paying for 9 hours, they left early at around 7:30pm. No refund was provided for the unused time, despite assurances that any overpayment would be refunded.

When my partner contacted the company to raise these issues, the owner was rude, dismissive, and dishonest — even blaming us and claiming we were wasting his time.

To make matters worse, their pricing is significantly higher than other moving companies, yet the service was completely unprofessional and inefficient. I ended up having to hire another truck myself to move the rest of our belongings that they left behind.

What should have been a straightforward move costing under $1000 ended up costing over $2000, plus the loss of our bond due to their damage. No invoice given either.

Avoid this company — unreliable, unprofessional, and not worth the money.

Had an overall bad experience with this company, arrived 4 hours late without notice and was extremely difficult to get in contact with, when finally arrived they didn’t take all my furniture, broke my bed base and damaged the Lino in the house, then left 45 minutes earlier than time i had booked them for. really slack effort for the price I paid. Wouldn’t recommend.

Wouldn't take a lot of stuff. Only took 1 TV. Wouldn't take bicycle. Wouldn't take loose stuff and bags. Had to spend an extra $100+ to get another movers.

Really happy with the service. The team was great, very friendly and packed our stuff with so much care. They made sure all the furniture was covered properly before loading. Everything arrived safe and sound. Big thanks to the boys! Highly recommend.
