Stephanie was less than pleasant when I came in a second time for a contact exam. They also charged me for a retinal exam test for dry eyes and did not disclose it was optional or that it was not covered by copay. Staff should prioritize transparency and not prey on young adults who come to them for help. Won’t be going back

Worst Experience - Hidden Fees, Be Careful!

One of the worst experiences trying a new company that I have had.

I tried to call the local store number and it routed me to a call center instead. I let them know I was a first time customer and new and wanting to make an appointment for that day. They scheduled me and I went in to the store and they didn't have me scheduled on the books at the store. The Rep on the phone scheduled me for two weeks ahead and thought he had scheduled me for the same day.

Then I found out after they squeezed me in, that when I went back to get my tests started, there was a MANDATORY $40 additional New Patient fee for a special test I had to do on my 1st or 2nd visit that I was not informed of when scheduling my appointment as a New Patient/Customer. I specifically saw the ad for 2 pairs of glasses with anti-glare coating and an eye exam for $99.

On my questionaire I filled out while waiting, I indicated that I had worn contacts in the past. When they brought me to the chair to do the traditional depth of field testing where you read off the letters and numbers and let them know which picture is clearer, the girl doing the testing said she noticed I marked that I used to wear contacts. She then asked if I was interested in having them again and I said yes at some point because I would like to have them for the summer to wear sunglasses, etc, but I was only there for glasses today. She pressured me to have the additional contact testing done because it could not be added in at a later time, I had to do it today with my regular testing. So I agreed to do it, my only concern was if my insurance could be used to cover that part and I could still take advantage of the 2 for $99 deal for my glasses. At no time was it discussed that there was an additional charge for this Contacts Test and they surprised me at the end with $140 charge for that test the girl never disclosed to me.

After the testing and while picking out my glasses, I was informed that the 2 for $99 was only for plastic lenses which are easy to scratch and much poorer quality. So I was upsold to a 2 for $199 for non-plastic lenses.

When I got back to my seat and they totalled up my bill, it was almost $400! And I came in expecting to get a 2 for $99.

I was also told my tests showed I need Progressives or Bi-Focals for the first time in my life. I have always been near sided and unable to see far away and I have NOT been having issues with reading or close up vision at all. But their machines said I did. When I got my progressive prescription and tried them on, my vision was so bad, I went back to my old glasses because I barely had a small square window inside the lenses that I could see normally. If I would tilt or move my head or even just move my eyes to look in my peripheral vision field, everything went out of focus to be for close up vision and it was awful. I didn't need a Progressive lens at all!

So I returned them the next day after trying to work all night using them until it became too frustrating to wear them. I ended up getting a single prescription for my distance vision and it took almost another 14 days to get them.

I ended up spending about $110 for one pair of glasses. There were several hidden or extra costs, my appointment was scheduled incorrectly from the very start and the manager I dealt with had no empathy for the situation I was dealing with.

When walking into the store, I was left standing at the front counter for almost five minutes without any "Hello" or "We'll be right with you" or any acknowledgement demonstrating proper customer service that a new customer had entered the building and was waiting.

Oh yes, and while my final bill was being figured up, the person helping me said I had no insurance coverage, which I did and had listed on the form as Medicaid. Another worker had to come over and show her on the paper where it said I had coverage entered and the lady was confused and had entered me as Non Billable for insurance, even though it was clearly listed on the form.

I researched and chose Stanton Optical out of 3 other companies to go with and it was one of the worst experiences in my Eye Health history.

Oh yes and during my testing for my vision, I expressed concern for pain I was having in my eyes and sensitivity like they were bruised and I was informed that they do not have an on site Dr. to address these issues, they only do Remote and would not be able to help me with my Eye Health concerns.

So just one bad thing after another. I would never recommend going to this company for your eye health.

I really don't like the virtual exam

I really don't like the virtual exam. I don't think my prescription is correct. I will need to reschedule a do over. ......Went back after scheduling a re exam and was told after I arrived that they really could not help me because they can not re exam because most likely I need a prism and with out an on-site optometrist, they can not help me. Asked about a refund and was given a diluted set of conditions that need to be met but not sure if they can even do it and I need to ask the first person I talked to and she was busy. I can go some where else and get a re exam at another place and they can remake my glasses but I would have to pay back the price of the exam that was not charged me because they take that off at the beginning. Not impressed at all. I will not be back.
