Amazing waitress Emanuele
We visited today and had a great experience. We received an amazing service from Emanuele and had delicious drinks and desserts. We will definitely return.
Food poisoning
I was excited to try Sushi Samba in Edinburgh, having enjoyed meals at their other locations. The place looked great – stylish decor and an interesting menu, just what I expected from Sushi Samba. Unfortunately, the experience took a turn for the worse.
After our meal, both my partner and I ended up with food poisoning. It hit us almost right away, and I was particularly badly affected, sick for a whole week.
We emailed the restaurant to let them know what happened, but we never got a response. It felt like they didn't really care about what happened to us, which was really disappointing.
So, despite the good first impressions, our visit was overshadowed by this bad experience. It's a real shame, as I had high hopes for this place.
SushiSamba at W, Edinburgh - Good and not so good
Staff and the service were great, and overall the food was good. A few items however were a bit disappointing (chicken skewers and squid). Portions were small and the bill was big - so not great value for money.
Some of the tables are a bit too close and the music was a little too loud. With everyone having to speak loudly, the restaurant was quite loud overall.
Stunning views over the Edinburgh Old Town skyline, so worth a visit.
Disappointing Dining Experience at Sushi Samba - Heron Tower
I recently visited Sushi Samba at the Heron Tower with high expectations, especially given my background with Peruvian cuisine from living in South America. Unfortunately, my experience fell far short of what I had anticipated.
Pros:
The Plantain Chips starter was enjoyable.
Cons:
Ceviche Tuna (0/10): Disappointingly masked tuna flavor, questioning the understanding of Peruvian cuisine.
Moqueca Mista: Overpowering coconut cream overshadowed the fish's natural flavor.
Churrasco: Decent, but meat arrived medium to well-cooked, and chorizo was dry and overcooked.
Service:
The 14% service rating is puzzling; the high tower setting shouldn't excuse subpar food quality.
Overall Experience:
My dining experience at Sushi Samba was one of the worst I've had. I expected much more, especially considering the diverse influences promised by the menu.
Atrociously bad service
Atrociously bad service. Huge gaps between orders and we had to keep reminding them that we were waiting. Nearly 3 hours to have lunch and there were only two moderately hungry people. Food was tasty albeit expensive
Wonderful atmosphere
Wonderful atmosphere! Great food, great service!
Covent Garden: Great food, great presentation, warm and friendly staff
Great location at the Covent Garden branch, with accessible access and they provided a great central table for our party of 9. Received excellent service to make the group booking and make amendments for diners with allergies. Overall great food, great presentation, warm and friendly staff
very good service
very good service - great food - reservation necessary - great location - prices a bit higher
Best cocktails in the city
Had an amazing time in this place. Great atmosphere for you are looking to grab some cocktails after work.
Amateur Hour
Our table wasn't ready despite arriving on time, so we were directed to the bar where we waited 15 mins and didn't get served as they were too busy to cope. We then got taken to the table where we were refused the taster menu as all 4 of us weren't having it - the reason was one of our party (birthday!) was gluten free so we all missed out. They didn't know the difference between rare and medium rare, food we ordered got forgotten, and the waiters cologne was so strong it was offensive (lovely chap though). A cake for my wife's birthday came but wasn't gluten free, so she couldn't eat it, and the toilets were probably more like MacDonalds on a Saturday night - all for the reasonable price of £500! Having eaten at many Michelin restaurants and most recently at Gravetye Manor the experience left us disappointed and would rank the worst of all of them....and other than the view, never worth the time, money or effort, so just head up the Shard with a Leon burger and you will likely be much happier (and richer!) Needless to say we won't return, even for business.
Relatively tasty food and the staff…
Relatively tasty food and the staff (one in particular) was very charismatic and helpful. Enjoyed my experience there and will return in the future when possible.
Don’t go there
Don’t go there. Overpriced and bad service. Go to a restaurant called Dozo. They do much better sushi.
OUTSIDE BAR COVENT GARDEN
OUTSIDE BAR COVENT GARDEN - Me and my friend had to wait for about 20 minutes to be served at the little outdoor bar area. The main man ( in a shirt and coat) ignored us over and over. My friend literally had to stand up and wave her arms. He was looking at us and blanking us. Very strange. I got up to leave because the service was so bad, then he came finally.
Good food. Service could improve massively.
The food was overall great with good choice.
The waiters were not attentive and was a big struggle to order everything from drink to food. The only person who was easily flagged down was the manager, who was lovely and attentive.
We didn’t dine at prime time, which was very clear, and the service didn’t justify the 13.5% charge.
I ordered the £75pp taster menu
COVENT GARDEN
I ordered the £75pp taster menu
FOOD:
- the food lacked any sort of flavour and my meat was so chewy I had to excuse my self from the table to spit it into the toilet as I physically couldn’t eat it.
I felt like the restaurant try’s too hard on giving a fast service then serving any actual good food. I came to this restaurant for a 1 year anniversary dinner and left feeling like I had spent £200 on a Tesco microwave meal. It looked and felt like high end restaurant but tasted like it should have been out of business years ago.
I’m not even over exaggerating when I say the food was bad, I was serviced a Japanese curry at the end and the one from Wagamama tasted better, a restaurant know for its flavourless food, serviced better food then here.
superb food and drinks, great night for us with a cool ambience
SushiSamba in Covent Garden.
Food was absolutely delicious and sake sommelier gave us the best suggestion that everyone enjoyed. Attentive service.Great atmosphere at the bar with the DJ, decor and jungle vibe very cool.We were at the far end of the restaurant on a big table which was perfect but a little warmer than the bar end which was much cooler.Yes it’s not cheap, but the food matched the price (really top end food) and being in central London.I would thoroughly recommend.
Thought the terrace and food was…
Thought the terrace and food was lovely. Service was impeccable as well. Unfortunately not very good value for money — the portions were relatively small for what I paid.
Heron Tower Sushisamba
Heron Tower Sushisamba. When we arrived at about 6pm, we were helped to get upstairs to the bar area by a kind manager who let us travel up the back goods/staff lift, as we were afraid to use the outside lift, we were told quite a few people are taken up the same way, and we appreciated it. When we got to the rooftop bar I was surprised to see how small it was and there was nowhere to sit but that wasn't too much of a problem. We then ordered a couple of cocktails and when I returned from the ladies my husband was furious that he hadn't been given a choice by the bar man whether he wanted to pay the discretionary service charge or not, the bar man ignored my husband when he questioned it with him! So after I spoke with the bar man he didn't seem to understand that discretionary service charge is a charge that the client has a choice to pay or not to pay! He then called a manager over who refunded us the discretionary service charge, but even he didn't seem to understand that we should have been offered the choice to pay or not pay the service charge, as all other bars and restaurants that I have been to operate in this way. There were problems with the hand held pos terminal and it was taking a long time to print out the refund receipt, during which time I was being stared down by the bar man, which I found rude, uncomfortable and unnecessary! I do think you need to take a look at your bar staff's manners with your customers, whatever happened to common courtesy! The three bar staff mentioned in this email need to be fired or retrained!
We were given our drinks and I wasn't happy about it being full with ice, but because of the experience at that bar we didn't say anything about the ice as we didn't want anymore trouble, but I shouldn't have been made to feel this way! We were being spoken about by the bar staff while the manager was sorting out our service charge refund which I found rude and childish and they made us feel uncomfortable. The bar staff were rude, aggressive and arrogant and gave us the feeling that they were thinking that we shouldn't be there if we didn't want to pay the service charge! We didn't want to pay the service charge on principle, not because of the amount, we have always been asked at the pos terminal if we wish to pay the service charge at that point then choose to pay it or not, and to have that choice removed from us was unnecessary and caused all these problems.
As the cocktail prices were already over inflated and because our drinks were seriously watered down due to all the ice, we didn't feel the cocktails were worth £13 each let alone charging an extra service charge!
We moved to the upstairs bar as there was nowhere to sit downstairs, after a little while being up there I felt more the injustice of the watered down expensive cocktail and went to the bar to complain about my drink, because the alcohol taste had disappeared. It was a long glass and full to the top with ice. I wasn't born yesterday, I know that bars fill up glasses with ice to make people buy more drinks, I have worked for many years in bars and pubs in London so I know the tricks of the trade, which I never used to do to my customers and I never gave them cause to feel uncomfortable by behaving rudely and arrogantly like your bar staff did with us! We didn't go to sushisamba to be treated badly, all we wanted was a drink and a view!! I have already mentioned the first bar man's behaviour outside on the rooftop bar, as if that wasn't enough unfortunately we were treated badly by another two bar men in the upstairs bar too! They were also rude and made us feel uncomfortable. In particular the bar man who was more intent on questioning me about how long I had my drink when I went to the bar to complain, where he unnecessarily tried to call my bluff rather than saying from the start that if I was unhappy he could change it, or by calling over a manager, which he did after trying to make me feel uncomfortable! I chose not to ask for another drink because I was made to feel so uncomfortable that all I wanted to do was leave. Unfortunately while I was at the bar having this awkward exchange with the unprofessional bar man, the other unprofessional bar man who was at the bar and overheard my exchange with his colleague, went to the table where my husband was sitting and tried to take his drink away telling him at the same time that there was no point him drinking it if its just water!!! My husband didn't let him take it away but that was rude, arrogant and completely unacceptable!
