Deceptive bank

Deceptive bank. Solar panel loans are a scam. Tricked seniors into install took 20k then disappeared when trouble with panels started. Very dishonest bank. In bed with solar company. Put a lien against 80 year olds home. Who the hell lends 80 year old dementia senior 60k. She’s on social security. Still fighting 2 years later

Unpleasant experience!

I would have given fewer points if the first few years of using TCU hadn't been favorable. I bought a car at a TCU-sponsored auto sale. I ended up purchasing a vehicle that should have been priced much lower. I was too naive to realize that the car had excessive mileage, so when I traded it in, the value was much lower than I expected. Also, I traded in a car when I made that purchase, and the trade-in value was lower than it should have been. I ended up closing my accounts because they charged an exorbitant fee for a service that should have been free.

Lack of Interaction From TechCU

emails, certified letters, and third-party reports I've kept.

While most of TechCU's ratings seem really positive, I would link through to the "reviews not recommended" below as they are very good about scrubbing their Yelp reviews and what you see may not be an accurate reflection of the credit union's service.

In Aug 2022, I financed a SunPower solar system through Technology Credit Union (Tech CU).

After installation, my roof began leaking. SunPower made multiple attempts, then said the repairs required a licensed roofer.

Before that could happen, SunPower filed Chapter 11 and stopped handling my job.

Since Sunpower's bankruptcy I have tried to communicate with Technology Credit Union to no avail. I have spent the last 7 months trying to reach out to first their bankers and local teams and eventually to their executive team.

To date I have sent multiple certified pieces of mail, emails, left voicemails to each member of their executive team and have not received on call back.

The only responses I have received back is when I have sent communication to the Department of Financial Protection and Innovation and one other generic letter from their legal team. That communication has been dismissive, doesn't answer the questions I pose, and is signed with a generic "Tech CU" signature with no contact information attached.

This is my experience, it may not be yours. However if it's helpful here are some things I wish I had done upfront:

Ask the lender (in writing) how they monitor the merchant's financial health and service capability, and what happens for customers if the merchant goes bankrupt.

Confirm whether your finance agreement preserves your claims and defenses (e.g., FTC Holder Rule) and get the lender's written process for disputes, collections pauses, and credit reporting.

If damage is suspected, obtain a third-party report early, and keep everything in writing (certified mail helps).

I'm not saying what anyone else should do; I'm just sharing my documented experience: long delays, collections pressure during an active dispute, and a refusal (to date) to address my core questions about merchant risk and loan forgiveness despite evidence that the leaks were solar-related. The lack of communication from the executive team in particular is extremely concerning and does not reflect the company's mission of "WOWing" customers or their Mission of "communicating and working together."

Tech CU is terrible!

Demetrio is a very nice rep but other than that dealing with this Credit Union is a very unpleasant experience. I do not recommend anyone to do business with them. Other than him their other staff and back office are extremely rude and inconsiderate. There are much better credit unions and banks out there to give your business to. Stay away from Tech CU!

I give this company a one star rating

I give this company a one star rating. My spouse and I have a loan for solar with Technology Credit Union. The solar equipment is great and is working. My spouse and I are in good standing with our solar loan. The only problem is the horrible, horrible customer service over the phone. My spouse and I have tried numerous times to call this company over different issues, like the company keeps sending us mail to the incorrect address. I have called with my spouse to correct this issue, then since my spouse is almost deaf, I try to answer the questions. Then they won't accept my answers even though my spouse is also sitting there. Then, we try to get my name on the account, then they give me a really hard time. Been waiting for weeks to receive a letter so I can put my name also on the account. The bottom line is, their customer service is a zero, but I could only leave a one star. They are about as friendly and helpful as a turnip. Can't wait to get our solar loan paid off so we don't have to deal with these horrible customer service representatives. The CEO Todd Harris should do quality control over their customer service representatives, like Kim, Amanda, Latita, and there a couple males, names unknown. Do better for your customers TECH CU. By word of mouth, I will never recommend this company to anyone.

Don’t use TECHCU OR SUNPOWER SOLAR. THEY Just take your money

Wow look at this almost as low as the project they financed. If your going solar please don’t use Sunpower or TECHCU. I unfortunately was steered into using TECHCU by Sunpower Solar and TECHCU dispersed payment in FULL…all $64000 worth. Guess what they did this before job was even completed with many problems and not working properly with damage. When I called them the basic response was sorry this has nothing to do with TECHCU. 😂 well I believe it has 64000 REASONS to do with TECHCU. I WONDER IF INVESTORS WOULD WANT THAT RESPONSE??!!

Terrible experience. Arbitrary rules.

Terrible, terrible experience with Tech CU. Opened account not too long ago and started transferring money into it through ACH. They put a limit on the transfer amount so I had to do multiple ACH's. Had some money in. Then trouble came. Couldn't do a wire and then they locked the account. I couldn't even close the account. Why? Because there were multiple ACH's. There were multiple ACH's because you made it so!

More then once, I was asked where was the money coming from. I got a sense that I was assumed guilty until proven innocent. I have opened so many accounts at so many banks and I was never treated this way.

Then I have a conversation like this:

So has the fund cleared? Yes. Then I just want to close my account. No, can't let you do that. Why not? We have some suspicions. What was the basis for that? Well all these transfers coming in. You made me do that because of the transfer limit you put on new account. We understand but still can't let you access money until we have done some review. How long is the review. Call back in a week. Why does it take a week? Money is in the account. I saw it before you locked it and I just want to close the account. I don't want to be Tech CU customer any more. Okay. We call you in 3 business days to let you know.

I can't even close my account and no one can tell me when exactly. It is all because I want to build up balance by transferring money from a few accounts (biz and personal). So that makes me suspicious of running a SCAM? So even though fund has cleared?

If you are just considering opening an account here, then I suggest you go somewhere. You have choices. It is not worth it. No one called me to say that "Can we understand what your plan is with the account? It is triggering some flags. May be we can help you achieve what you want to do." That would be what I expect a bank/credit union who respects their customers would do. This is not such a credit union/bank.
