Beware of incorrect information from…

Beware of incorrect information from this company. I did the challenge with a group of 5 for charity. It’s tough, very tough, but do able. However some information the company provide is incorrect. The FAQ section on the website states there are toilets at 3 points during the challenge. There were none, so you are expected to ‘go behind a wall’. Also, timing. We didn’t set off until 6.30 am so they give you less than 12 hours. The challenge part is the timing, which isn’t made clear. The itinerary advises of approximate times to reach each point, however we reached the end check point at 2.45 pm rather than 2.30 and they told us we could not continue to the 3rd peak.
I felt that that the company were happy to take money but did little in the way of providing service or support. We continued to complete the challenge without the company. And it was a great achievement! Our guide Fiona, who started the challenge with us was lovely as were the other people in our group. So it is a great challenge to complete but maybe use a different company.

Terrible experience

We had a terrible experience with this company. We set off at 6.30am with a guide. There were 5 of us walking for charity and there was another group of 5 and a young couple in our group. We kept up with the guide the entire time and I asked multiple times if we were making good time, to which our guide confirmed that we were. We had 10 minutes longer at the first stop as the public toilets had closed and a couple had to go in search of a bathroom but we were still in good time. Suddenly, after finishing the descent of the second hill we were told we only had a very short time to get to the second water stop. We were all determined to complete so we went at a very fast pace across the long stretch to make it in time. It would have been impossible to make it unless we were running. We arrived 15 mins after the deadline and they told us that we couldn’t do the 3rd hill even though we would have made it within the 12 hours! They were actively encouraging everyone to quit and get on the bus or take a shorter route back.

We spent 30 minutes talking to
The other members of the group, deciding what to do. We decided to continue together and support each other.. We had an amazing time on the last peak without this company. We had a leisurely break at the top for food and encouraged each other to finish (which should have been the objective of this company)!

We arrived back at the car park and overtook a guide and group that had gone just before us. We made it in 12 hours and 25 minutes so definitely would have made it in the 12 hours if we had been taken up the last hill with the guide and not had the chaos at the second stop.

There was a misogynistic attitude from the guys in the car park who dismissed our complaints and told us that we had inconvenienced them by continuing!! We had all come determined to complete the 3 peaks and most of us doing it for charity. It was absolutely disgusting.

Please think twice before using this company. They don’t want you to succeed and will actively encourage you to quit.

All contact has ceased following my original complaint!
Myself and my daughter and her friend did this challenge to raise money for them to complete a world challenge next year. We sent all the info required re fitness levels and would class ourselves as active and did hill walking prior every weekend to build up ability and tolerance. First issue was our ‘guide discussion’ we were told that we needed to be back within 11 hours not the 12 we paid for without any explanation or group discussion as to why, whether we had the ability to do it in this time etc. Then an hour before schedule we reached the summit of hill 1! Only briefly held up by one of the 15 year old girls I brought momentarily pausing as she felt anxious. We descended and headed to hill 2! We followed the group along the trail ok reached second hill and again she paused naturally anxious as it was a steep incline , at this point we had two guides including our own telling us to return as we were incapable of doing the challenge. My argument was we had already done half or it and were ahead of schedule so could we just give her a minute, I was told categorically no that we were not capable and to hand over our arm bands! So… no support , no encouragement, no access to mountain rescue as no phone signal, left alone on the side of a hill with two 15 year old girls.
We carried on alone and we made the challenge In 11 hours and 45 mins!!!!! Those girls could have given up as they were told they would fail !!!! They didn’t and they nailed it but to zero thanks from this company or the guide! Where’s the mountain leaders encouragement ? Whole group thinking ? Inclusion, support and more importantly safeguarding responsibility ??? I complained and had a response that out would be investigated and I have emailed back three times without answer ! Took our money and left us almost destroying two young girls self esteem in the process as it stands they felt amazing because they showed that NO ONE decides what you are capable of , that’s down to them and they did !

Buyer beware; spend ur money wisely; only sign on if you do hill marathons regularly

We booked on to this challenge - National 3 peaks in 24 hours. We paid £369 just for the guides and transfers between peaks. Cost to get to Fort William at 7 am on start day ( so hotel stay previous night) , food , and travel back from Chester to your home not included.

The company are happy to book you on, irrespective of what you say regarding your fitness level. A few of us categorically specified we were not marathon fit. So when the unsuspecting person i.e you meet the guides you get a talk - first time you are told you have to be marathon fit to attempt this, you have to keep to times or you will be sent back down as failures etc etc. The reality of this speech hits you when you start your first challenge. The fit participants surely race ahead - at a super pace - not normal hiking pace . Ben Nevis requires 8 hours + of strenous climbing on a good day. They give you 5 ( even on a bad day). Right at the start these experienced guides keep discouraging you and saying you are not going to summit - as early as the first 5 minutes - you start feeling terrible about yourself. They carry on attacking your mind and shout at you for wiping your nose or having a polite conversation with a fellow participant or even stopping to take your water bottle out .. leave alone stopping to catch your breath ... In the next 10 - 25 minutes they declare you unfit and tell you to head back down .. so you head back in shame .. This story continues for all the other peaks! You never summit any peak as you simply are not marathon fit. This company should really be putting up a warning on the booking website .. or later when you fill up your fitness questionnaire .. They lie to you and even tell you they will put you in groups of matching fitness . Truth is they dont care, they just want your money.

Out of the 42 or so who were on the buses, 20 or so must have made up and down the 3 peaks. A few who were made to quit actually got off and took a train or went out to hire a car and didnt bother coming back to the buses. 6 were injured Ben Nevis, trying to rush the challenge at crazy speeds , 2 had to be dropped off at A&E. Most of the 20 who dropped out did not even bother to get to the second peak or third...

The weather was rubbish , rocks were slippery , another climber ( not from this group) faced a bad head injury.

So buyer beware, only book on to the 24hour challenge if you are marathon fit and can run up and down hills! You are better off making good use of the money elsewhere or taking your time and doing the peaks at your own pace.

The guides are brilliant and work for various companies, they claim they do not get to know who has booked on till they arrive on the day ... Its the company which keeps this quiet and leaves it to you to do the math and the research! I bet the 20 of us who did not summit would have never signed on had we known!!!
