The advice given by TUG regarding Timeshare Exiting

I've updated my review to be mire detaled. The advice given by TUG regarding getting rid of your timeshare does not state the possible consiquences for just walking away. On their website they only state that they are leary of recommending walking away, but don't tell the reader the possible consiquences. If they are leary, why suggest it at all? It makes me leary of using their site.

This is a quote from their site TUG2.NET

"Stop paying for Timeshare
This solution is something we are leery to suggest, but have come to realize that in many situations its least of the bad options available to some owners!

While we do not advocate this strategy, and urge all owners to try options 1 and 2 above, it is important to know the truth about all of your options!"

The above statement is taken directly from their website. They do not explain the consiquences that may come when you stop paying your timeshare loan/maintenance fees.

Thank you for your review, though it’s important to clarify a few things for anyone reading.

First, this review does not reflect an actual product purchase or interaction with any service from TUG. We are not an “exit company,” and we do not sell timeshare exit services . TUG is a consumer education platform that has provided free information to owners for over 30 years.

Second, TUG does not ignore the possible consequences of defaulting on your timeshare. Quite the opposite—we routinely explain that defaulting can carry serious potential consequences, including collections, credit impact, and possible legal action depending on the circumstances. The reason it’s discussed at all is because many owners ask about it after being misled elsewhere. Ignoring the topic would be irresponsible—explaining the risks is not the same as recommending the action.

Finally, we are aware that you have made numerous posts across TUG social media channels over the past month that have been consistently challenged or corrected by other experienced owners. Disagreement is welcome in any open community—but when accurate information is repeatedly disputed, it’s not surprising to see that frustration show up elsewhere.

Our mission remains the same: provide honest, experience-based information so owners can avoid costly mistakes—especially those involving large upfront fees or misleading promises.

If any owner—would like help understanding legitimate options, we’re always happy to point you in the right direction for free, 24 hours a day as we have done for the past 3 decades.

Its a shame that someone would stoop to such tactics in a deliberate effort to prevent owners from discovering the truth about timeshare exit and cancellation companies, but not surprising given this industry relies on being disingenuous at its very core.

My experience has been very positive

My experience has been very positive. There is a great deal of useful information regarding buying, selling, and feeding back timeshares as well as resort reviews and options to buy, sell, or rent weeks.
This site saved me several thousand dollars and a great deal of aggravation.
I recommend it for owners or people who want unbiased accurate information.

Best $15 you'll spend

Everyone with a timeshare should be following TUG. They provide a valuable service, breaking industry information and have saved new "owners" by providing truthful information in time for them to rescind. I ran a large group of timeshare owners and I referred people to TUG all the time. Members are mostly kind and helpful.

Response to TUG's reply

I am editing my review to post the correspondence between TUG and me with only personal information removed. This clearly indicates that TUG's response is nonsense. The week posted was not just "week 52" - it included the specific dates, so there was no calendar confusion:

My original email reponse to TUG:
The ad clearly shows the week 52 dates of 12/31/2022 - 1/7/2023. If this is an innocent mistake by your long time member, then please contact them and have them correct the ad. If this is a fraudulent ad and you refused to take it down, i will hold TUG responsible for any issues that occur. TUG is now on notice that this is a fraudulent ad and if you continue to allow this ad to appear on your site, you are a participant in this fraud. If you choose to do nothing, i advise you to contact your legal department to determine your liability in participating in fraudulent activities.

ad is from a very long time member, there is no indication of any fraud here.

as mentioned previously, the royal resorts use a different calendar from the one used by the rest of the timeshare world and we always stress for individuals to verify the actual check in date vs the week number.

week 52 on the RCI calendar is not the same week as week 52 in the royal calendar.

I would like this ad taken down. I am the owner of this week/unit and I have not placed the ad or authorized the re-rental of this week. Please let me know what needs to be done. I believe TUG has a responsibility to verify ownership in this situation to prevent fraud.

Thank you,

The below is my orginal response to TUG's response to my Trustpilot review giving them one star, because zero stars was not an option:
I'm responding to Tug's response to my previous review. Their response simply confirms that their site is fraudulent. I sent proof of my ownership of the exact week listed on TUG for rental. They told me at the time that it appeared that their client simply listed the wrong week. If that were the case, they should have contacted the client and corrected the ad. Instead, they allowed the fraudulent ad to continue being advertised. They now claim in their response that I owned a different week. That is an absolute lie.
When will the fraud and lies from Tug stop? They are supposed to be helping timeshare owners and prospective owners avoid fraud. Instead, they are an active participant in timeshare frauds.

We have already explained the issue yet you continue to believe what you wish. The check in dates for that listing were correct (and verified with the member who posted them who produced the reservation information directly from interval services, despite your claim we did not), and the check in week number was correct based on the industry timeshare planning calendar. Note that at no time did you provide any documentation or reservation information to back up your claims, just repeated demands that we remove a random rental listing from an active member of TUG (of which, you are not).

Despite these facts repeatedly and politely explained to you. You chose to continue to believe you are correct and instead of the completely reasonable explanation, that you have uncovered some sort of conspiracy against timeshare owners. Side note: the listing was rented successfully by the TUG member! The guest must have enjoyed "your unit".

You then threatened to slander TUG on any website you could find to listen to your fictional complaint of fraud, like this one. Given you are still claiming TUG is a fraud now nearly a year after this experience, it would appear your goal was nothing more than to have a competitors rental removed from a successful timeshare rental marketplace to avoid competition with your own unit for rent elsewhere. Rather underhanded and shady behavior no doubt, but certainly nothing new in the Timeshare world.

We take all reports of fraudulent listings seriously and investigate each one as applicable, yours however was simply a case of you being mistaken, or deliberately deceitful in an effort to reduce your rental competition for a similar reservation.

We will stand by the hundreds of thousands of owners that have utilized TUG over the past 30 years to successfully sell and rent their timeshares themselves and are perfectly happy with the site, including the 100,000 plus active owners on our free forums.

Anyone is welcome to hop in and get a REAL review of TUG at any time from legitimate timeshare owners. https://tugbbs.com/forums

Well thats not a very flattering review. May I have some more information as to why you feel the tug website is a scam? tug2.net is completely free and open to the public, and has been around for nearly 30 years. there is no cost for anything on the tug2.net website and every page is completely free for owners! I certainly apologize that you clearly had a bad experience, but perhaps it was not on tug2.net?

Could you elaborate on the "tug2 timeshare resale scam"? Timeshare resale listings on the TUG marketplace are posted by the owners themselves. TUG is not a broker, nor are we involved in the resale transaction in any way. I would like to hear more about your experience as perhaps it was a misunderstanding?
