As a qualified teacher and experienced…

As a qualified teacher and experienced industry professional, based on my experience of being a student at this university I would advise the following: absolutely DO NOT attend here, I would give zero stars if I could, my experience is in line with the other negative reviews here. I have two previous degrees and I wonder why I wasted my time attending here. I was accused of artificial intelligence use, and the lecturer made inappropriate comments about my work which had unprofessional and stereotypical connotations which undermined my writing ability.

When I mentioned that the lecturer’s unprofessional comments caused extreme mental harm and distress. The university just pointed me in the direction of the general wellbeing team and did not bother reprimanding the lecturer. Based on my experience with the academic side of the Physiotherapy department, it is unlikely you will experience any humanity here, just endless bureaucracy.

Also some of the lecturers put in the bare minimum into lectures, for example one lecture the lecturer spent half the time saying “I don’t know why don't you Google it” the majority of the time students asked questions. On top of this particular lecturers have consistently finished lessons early, not by 5-10 mins but 30- 45 minutes in some instances. Disgraceful that we are paying 11 grand for a service that I perceive to be worth not even £1000.00

If you go here, based on my experience you will just be a statistic to extract money from and don’t share any ideas or contribute, because a few of the lecturers come across as they can’t stand the idea of a student being smarter than them. Read the other negative reviews before you come here!! Based on my experience and wasted 5 months, you have been warned.

I loved my time as a student

I loved my time as a student at the University of Central Lancashire as it was then. The campus has a friendly atmosphere and feels like a supportive place to study, especially if you’re looking for somewhere a bit more relaxed than a big city environment. Staff are generally approachable and there are good resources available if you need help.

The location works well too. Preston easy to get around and has everything you need without being overwhelming. There’s a nice sense of community, and it’s been a good place to grow both academically and personally.

Definitely worth considering if you’re looking for a smaller, welcoming university experience.

Friends & green spaces

I met some brilliant friends during my studies here and learnt a lot of transferrable skills that I took with me into my career. I'd really recommend Preston as a small (but mighty) city that is perfect for those who want city life, but with the benefits of beautiful parks and local green spaces right on the doorstep.

Other bigger cities like Manchester and London felt more overwhelming and I knew they wouldn't suit what I wanted to get out of life as a student. I knew I needed a calmer, walkable campus feel, which is exactly what I got at the University of Lancashire :)

Nursing Students read before going on placement

Whilst the University is great for Nursing the placements aren't. There is no correct safeguarding of students.
I am therefore writing a list of things a student nurse must not do whilst on placement. If you are a working as an HCA alongside nursing studies you can do these things whilst an HCA (you will be covered as an employee) but NOT as a nursing student.
1. Take bloods, cannulate or catheterise unless you have passed your University modules. Even then, please don't jeopardise your future nursing career. Ask yourself why the registered nurse, band 3 HCA is not doing this? You can offer support with other bedside care to assist but do not do these at all costs unless you have passed your modules AND checked the University has you insured.
2. Be left with a bay full of patients and no qualified nurse about. Yes, this has happened particularly during winter months. Report this directly to your PEFs. You are supernumerary, not part of the numbers and do not have an active PIN. Completely unacceptable.
3. Work within your competencies, DO NOT let anyone push you into something you are not comfortable with. Again, report directly to your PEFs if you feel pressured into working above your competencies.
4. Bullying, yes, sad to say it still goes on. Ask to remove yourself from your placement in writing if this becomes an issue. No student nurse should be bullied, particularly when you are paying £9k + each year for the privilege.

What will be expected from you
1. Turn up to shift before or on time.
2. Take an active interest in learning.
3. Work with your mentor to develop yourself and take constructive feedback.
4. Develop a plan of what you want to achieve at the beginning of placement with your mentor.
5. Do not be too posh to wash, respect your HCAs. They work hard to keep everything in order so you can do your role. Respect all your colleagues.

If you have concerns you are not having the correct amount of time with your mentor raise this with PEFs.

I was raped by a trans student in 2023 when I was studying BA Japanese Studies and they expelled me instead because it makes less drama. Eden raped me during freshers and the university banned me from going to classes in week one because I wasn’t “fit to study”

Preston is a town of rapists and this university is proud to uphold the tradition. Sheffield university and Cardiff University are the exact same.

If you have a vagina dont go here basically

I have been treated well

I have been treated well. I come from a Spanish university which is hard from start to finish, a 3-year law and business degree, but it took me 7 years to finish it, that is the average time to finish Law with Business in Spain, with oral exams in the law part which make the exams something less than a section of sadism towards you. My university is the second oldest in the world after OXFORD.
The business part was hard, with 18-hour days in the library 2 months before the exams with moments of being awake 36 hours to pass an exam with a miserable 50.
UCLAN has allowed me to study a second degree that I had studied in Spain but had not finished, the Business Management degree. I studied with the same intensity and passed with relatively good grades, I have had bad times as in everything in this life, but studying at an English university has been worth it for the experience. Now I'm getting a master's degree and I'm doing better, I'm passing with a merit so far. Thanks UCLAN.

I would like answers as to why and will seek legal.advice in future Having now attended 2 UK universities through no fault of my own ??
Am sick of being messed around!!
And am now contacting Embassies in order to leave the UK and as far as I know I have only ever been issued with a UK Passport and still no answers! See Google reviews for South Africa Australia etc etc!! I will not be producing any form of personal programmable code by myself till this is resolved, Nor have any business interests both here and abroad till the foreseeable future!

My time at UCLan has been marked by significant administrative challenges that have impacted my academic progression. Delays in communication and response times, compounded by staff shortages, disrupted essential aspects of my studies, including financial aid and access to learning resources. Although we have taken steps and efforts to resolve these issues through the appropriate channels, support was limited, and the appeal process was hurried due to ongoing staff constraints.

"UCLan: A Disappointing Experience in Unprofessionalism"?

I am deeply disappointed by the unprofessional conduct of the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) during my recent application process for an undergraduate course in hospitality management.

After months of providing extensive documentation and waiting patiently, UCLan issued a conditional offer and requested half of the £6000 tuition fees upfront. However, their treatment took a turn for the worse when they conducted a credibility interview, only to inform me the next day that they were no longer interested, citing reasons that were nothing short of ridiculous.

What's more disheartening is that my family and I turned down other university offers based on UCLan's initial acceptance, only to be left hanging for months without any updates. To add insult to injury, the university only refunded £5750 of the initial payment, claiming the rest was for "processing the application," a fee that was never mentioned beforehand and is utterly unfair given the circumstances.

This experience has left me disillusioned and frustrated with UCLan's lack of professionalism and transparency. I urge prospective students to think twice before considering this institution, as my experience highlights their disregard for applicants' time, effort, and financial investment.

AVIOD THIS UNIVERSITY IF YOU CARE ABOUT…

AVIOD THIS UNIVERSITY IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR MENTAL HEALTH

There needs to be an investigation launched on this university for lack of conduct and high unethical practices.

I’ve come from other university institutions and university of central Lancashire WORST university I have dealt with. I am absolutely shocked and appalled at the lack of organisation of this institution.

The best I could describe being at this university was like a nightmare I COULD NOT wake up from. Staff have a high disagreed for your mental health and safety. They simply do not care about you whatsoever!!

If you care about your mental health AVIOD this university at all costs.

If I could give this university 0 stars I would.

Corrupt organisation

Corrupt organisation, discrimination towards EU nationals. They will mark and grade based on your skin colour, nationality and whether you will show if you have money or not.
Later they will mess with your grade and send you false certificates.
On the top, they like to harass students, stay away.

DISCRIMINATION AND ZERO SUPPORT

I am writing on behalf of my wife. This uni is a complete disgrace. Complete lack of support for students. DISCRIMINATION against women who take time off for maternity leave. These complete morons cant even manage how to pause education and restart it after maternity. To cut a long story short, my wife is now being threatened with Bailiffs. Her student finance was paused while we had our child. It should have been reinstated for her last payment when she returned to Uni/nursing placement. Because the complete cretins cant even liaise with stu finance, she is now being refused her payment. Absolute disgrace. We have had to pay £700 ppm for childcare while she's been back at uni, and stu-finance wont pay (because the uni are refusing to get involved - even though this is all their doing), and now UCLAN threaten bailiffs if she doesn't pay them.
The attitude of the team over the phone is disgraceful, they DID NOT GIVE 2 F***KS. WE WILL BE GOING TO THE NEWSPAPERS REGARDING THIS.
AVOID THIS CROOKED UNI. UPCOMING STUDENTS PLESE READ. DO NOT APPLY HERE!!!!!

This Uni writes the book on disabled access

I have just spent the day in Preston attending the graduation ceremony for my wife. I am disabled so we spent a bit of time researching accessibility issues but we were quite reassured that my being in a powered wheelchair should not pose an insurmountable problem. How wrong could I be ? It wasn’t a problem, it was an absolute delight

From arrival on the footpath we were met by guides in t shirts indicating willingness to help, a big smile and they really meant it. The campus route was absolutely flat and virtually every time I paused to let my wife catch up I was approached and asked if they could be of any assistance. As we waited in a large group to move to the presentation halls I was asked by a young guide if he could direct me to my allocated viewing area. Not only that but he queued for a cold drink for my wife and I and accompanied me right to my allocated seating area and chatted all the way. This was not just helpful it was an actual pleasure. After some 20 minutes seated, Tom returned to see if I needed anything and to ask if I would like to be collected and escorted after the event. This wasn’t necessary but I could not praise Tom nor every other helper/ guide enough.
To spell it out I HAVE NEVER ENCOUNTERED SUCH A POSITIVE EFFORT TO ENSURE DISABLED PEOPLE ARE OFFERED NOT JUST BASIC HELP BUT EVERY POSSIBLE EFFORT TO MAKE SURE WE HAD EVERYTHING WE NEEDED, WE WERE FULLY AWARE OF WHAT IS AVAILABLE AND THAT OUR EXPERIENCE WAS AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE TO THAT OF ABLE BODIED VISITORS.

I cannot speak highly enough of the University staff and the volunteers who put in such hard work to make the day a memory for a lifetime. This wasn’t just ticking boxes, this was an outstanding example of true disability awareness and a wholehearted commitment to accessibility.
I was genuinely moved that both the young ( and more mature) people and such an organisation as UCLAN can make accessibility not just a task, but a core part of the life of the University
I cannot speak highly enough of Tom and of UCLAN. From now, you are the gold standard for my future accessibility experiences. Thank you so much.
