The holiday came and was disapointed

The holiday came, we arrived and were disappointed in the approach/driveway there didn't seem to be any floral display as there used to be when Woolacombe Bay Parks owned it, just a few plants and bushes. The site seem to be in a but of a run down state, building not repainted, flower beds only loosely/thinly planted just general appearance with the exception of a few areas
Swimming Pools
Its July but the small outdoor pool around the Orchard was not open, still covered when in the past it was open from early June by the parks previous owners
As the small outside pool was closed and the only other outside pool was a fun pool, which was being enjoyed by all even though it was packed, we ventured to the large indoor pool and noticed when swimming that there was a scum park around the pool which looked like it had been there for a while, I made the mistake of touching it, not pleasant
Accommodation
We were allocated Pine Cones 24 which on the surface looked fine, it was really clean/spotless
Just a bit concerting that neither of the bedrooms had any drawers in them. Each room had 2 small wardrobes approx 600mm wide with a few coat hangers. There was now were to put folded clothes very disappointing having to leave most packed or spread out on the carpet. The double mattress was very hard and resulting backache in the mornings
The sofa in the lounge had seen better days as it was very soft and when sitting on it my knees came up to my chin, ended up using dining chairs.
Then TV was rather old but functional depending if you could get the remote to work
On the second full day of our holiday we popped in to reception, explained the situation relating to the hard mattress and the TV remote and to their credit arrangements were make to change the mattress for a slightly softer one and later in the day a gentleman appeared with a box of remotes for the TV, tried most of them and left us with on that worked.
I would like to take this opportunity to point out the reception, in fact all the staff and Golden Coast we came in contact with were very polite and helpful
We have been coming to Woolacombe Bay Parks for quite a long time and one of our favourites was Golden Coast and when Verdant Leisure took it over continued to come but now I'm not so sure. Taking into account our last experience of your budget accommodation and our limited income, the fact that we have to drive 289 miles each way just the get to the Woolacombe area.

Queensberry at Powfoot

The caravan was clean, comfortable but basic. No decor e.g pictures, ornaments, lamps- 2 tiny ones. No rubbish bins, only a tiny one under the kitchen sink, limited crockery & utensils, no salt & pepper pots. Splash out Verdant & make your caravans a bit more homely! We didn't eat at The Sandpiper but had some coffees after a walk one day & there were dogs with their owners at the majority of tables all sitting by the windows, where's the designated area? We're not dog lovers but we don't hate them either just give them another room? We understand there are a lot more caravans to be sited but this to me is detrimental to the views, we had no view just other caravans windows, too close! No shrubbery or trees in between. The best views are taken by private owners at the front of the site. We won't revisit, we've been to better, but the staff were lovely & friendly.

BEWARE VERDANT LEISURE, THURSTON MANOR!

Booked a lovely Olive 2 Caravan for a week in October at above site. I chose the Olive 2 as it was new for 2025 and the photographs showed very spacious bedroom accommodation. On arrival it was clear the caravan we were allocated bore no relation to the one on the website from which we booked as the bedrooms were very much smaller with totally different layouts.
The following morning I went to reception to enquire as to why we had such a different caravan to the one that was chosen and paid for. I was immediately told that the website photographs were 'for illustration purposes only' and you may find your caravan is not exactly as shown. I was utterly shocked that they had engineered a situation where a beautiful caravan booked from their website turns out to be totally inferior to what had been chosen and paid for and that they excused this by inserting the phrase 'for illustration purposes only'. I see this as no more than a 'get out of jail card' for Verdant Leisure's deceitful tactics.
On the day we were leaving I asked for a copy of the complaint which was sent to their Head Office but this was refused although she confirmed they did have it. I was again told I would hear direct from Head Office in due course.
To date, 9th November 2025, there has been no word from them. This is just a warning that Verdant Leisure have the upper hand here with customers as when I checked the website - sure enough in very small writing was their 'get out of jail card' saying 'for illustration purposes only'. Frankly I consider this to be very underhand, probably contravenes the Trades Description Act, and a blatant policy to allocate inferior units which are displayed as much enhanced on their website.
Unfortunately there does not appear to be the option to upload photographs to show the stark difference between the website photographs displayed and the reality of what we were allocated. However I have managed to upload them to the Google Reviews site and to Trip Advisor. I have also sent these photographs to Trading Standards in Dunbar as Verdant Leisure's audacity to trick people like this is totally unacceptable.

Awful customer service

We telephoned and checked a late arrival would be okay. Advised yes no problem, ring the number for security at reception on arrival. We arrived 2 hours earlier than expected at 21:45- everything shut up now lighting anywhere. Went to reception after hunting for it, and couldn't find a number anywhere. We phoned main office- shut. We phoned camp site shut. We drove around to see if we could find anyone, no luck. We eventually found a building with a number on, it was pitch black We found this by chance. Phoned the security number- straight to answer machine. We had a 4 year old and a dog in the car and had just travelled 5 hours. We telephoned hotels with no luck- we ended up staying in the car overnight. The reception staff were lovely the next morning, however declared on checking CCTV the bar was open at 21:57... it absolutely was not We were outside calling main reception at that exact time. We are still yet to have any reply or check in from main number or security despite numerous voicemails and emails.

Avoid like the plague. This company does not care they just want your money

I was, at verdant leisurecpowfoot 2023 a digrace power, cut off machinectrundling past all day long theycgave me, a discount so i went their place in wooler it was, brilliant decided this yearcearly mayv to go to their place in eriggmore i booked it octoberx2024, firstlyvi couldnt find the cc caravan after 30 minutes had to go back to reception, ia staff member walked down showxshow me where it, was, down a hill at end of lane this caravan had no coffee table no side lights in sutting room or bedrooms no where to hang wet towels no where in bathroomto put touleteries had to out everyrhibgbon floor. I am 75xwas on my own with dog i reported it attitude, armtcreceotion was, it, wasnt her, who put me there. Nwver felt so isatedxin my life will never be back or give verdant leisure my custom they just don't care

DO NOT buy a van on one of this companies sites they will rip you off big time when you go to sell it
My wife does not do long journeys so we looked at buying a weekend get-a-way not too far from where we live, so went and looked at static caravans at viewfield manor in Kilwinning, we had a set price we were willing to spend, so had a look at the vans the site was selling and none of them were suitable after all who wants to spend 30K on a 10 to 15 year old van, so we looked to see who was selling private.We found a 4 year old one with new decking on the site selling for 2oK so we went and saw the owner and came down slightly in price due to some things we would need to replace, she was happy and re submitted the private sale document to the site, who did not want to buy it at 20K but as soon as they saw she was selling it 1500 cheaper they stopped the sale and forced her so sell it to them at the reduced cost, then by the time they take a percentage of that sale they gor her 4 year old van for 15K, so robbed me of the van and robbed her outright, they are now selling this same van on that site for £35K this has to be made illegal, so DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR HARD EARNED CASH .....I would not give them the steam off my shit !!

Definitely Not Worth the Visit

We stopped at the Riverside campsite in Northumberland.
Price was great… that’s where it stops.

Very expensive and poor club onsite.

The showers and toilets need some serious refurbishment. They were always dirty, low to no toilet paper and soap dispensers empty.
Regularly the floors in both the male and female toilets were covered in urine and even had poo in the urinals more than once in our 9 day stay.

Our pitch was very small, I couldn’t get my car next to the van/awning. Despite paying for the spot.
When I asked at reception they offered me to park outside there in the visitors parking!

Lots of people onsite blocked the water taps and reception weren’t bothered.

The noise of some people into the early hours was also unacceptable. People having domestics until 2am! Screaming shouting, loud music on a family site is acceptable.

I’ll not be recommending or visiting a Verdant site again.

Clearly the price reflects the quality of the site. Extremely disappointed

NEVER AGAIN !!!!

We went to the one at the golden coast for a week and ended up coming home earlier.

The rooms are filthy, super dirty and outdated, there’s mold everywhere, rubbish and the carpets in the rooms are extremely dirty. Also the smell inside is unbearable.

Amenities are another joke, the laundry is always busy and the machines don’t work majority of the time. The activities are not always open and there’s barely any staff, you see the same faces doing different things all day long.

There’s nothing for the kids! It’s so poor!

Please avoid, such a waste of money.

Very poor customer service

Booking was cancelled 21 mins before I was due to check in, over the phone, despite having a 7 year old in the car and having travelled 75 miles the team took no ownership of my problem. The situation was nothing to do with them and I had to contact pitch up as it was their mistake, appalling customer service. Made no effort to find us accommodation close by.

Not informed that everything was shut.

We went to golden coast.nothing open no shop to get any groceries We took an upgrade and as told we’d be closer to the Mill pub.But it wasn’t open.the actual web site stated that everything was open otherwise we wouldn’t of bothered going.the first accommodation was originally shoreline apartment.then it went to seascape villa.then when we updated it it was seascape villa ..?? So what did we pay the extra money for. The villa was lovely but we felt very let down and ripped off.so different than last time we visited. The staff were very nice, polite and tried to help.

Think twice, thrice and one more time

Riverside Leisure Park in Wooler part of verdant leisure robbed me of 90% of my money from purchase price to forced sale in just 2 years. Just remember if you buy a holiday home from them they will lie wildly to get your cash. Once they have it you are no longer of interest any longer. Also be prepared to lose practically everything you spent if you sell. The heartache this has caused is palpable. Don’t become another victim.

Avoid. We stayed at their most expensive hot tub lodge at heatherview, hot tub contained broken glass, bottle tops, leaves, chocolate wrappers… absolutely filthy. I’m pleased my teenage daughter didn’t jump straight in. We killed about 30 ear wigs inside the lodge, had 3 dvds replaced, all broken, boiler went off, and the couch feels like you’re sitting in the back of it, it’s broken and was previously reported to Verdant on our previous as we have stayed here several times. The response for all of this was ‘maintence issues happen’…. Erm for a £1k a week lodge at certain times … staff are great, can’t fault them at all, it’s the only thing left.

Terrible customer service

Horrendous experience with the main verdant assistant manager and customer service. Two weeks prior I made a booking, there was no mention of cancellation cover. The week before I was due to arrive I called to cancel as I had Covid. I was told there’s nothing they can do as I didn’t have cancellation cover. I explained this wasn’t offered and they offered me 50% refund if I get a doctors note before the arrival date (the first available gp appt was in 2 weeks). I called as soon as I was able to (I was very, very ill) - the assistant manager showed zero care or empathy and was extremely rude in her tone and manner. She said she was choosing not to do anything and so I get zero money back or ability to book alternative dates - this was in dead winter when the parks are empty, not high season where parks can be fully booked.

This was going to be my second stay, giving them another chance after my first experience staying there - where the first caravan I was in had a broken boiler, and after several failed attempts to fix it, they moved me to another caravan which had a mice infestation! I do not recommend!!

Avoid at all costs

Avoid at all costs! We stayed with a small baby at the golden coast leisure park, accommodation was disgusting, blood up the walls, rotted door frames, dirty fridge, front door broken, twin bedroom that my baby was sleeping in was full of mould, two massive holes in the other twin bedroom in the ceiling full of water ingress!!

Customer service at the front desk was useless, they didn’t want to help at all nor offer a partial refund, told me to contact customer care who quite frankly don’t care and will never respond to you. Facilities on the park were awful, nothing was ever open, entertainment was horrendous, would’ve preferred to watch paint dry for 3 hours. They say the outdoor activities are open all day, we went to attend the high ropes as we was told it was open all day, only to get there and nobody is manning the reception, they’ve blocked out all the slots for the day and was only operating between certain times, hardly any staff around to help you.

All in all an awful experience, completely ruined our first family holiday with my baby! I would stay away from this place at all costs unless you want to waste your money.

Unfortunately not a good experience

Unfortunately not a good experience. First impressions are a tight road round a congested camp site which feel as though the main aim is to cram as many people into a field as possible. Although our pitches, my family plus friends we were travelling with, were of a good size, however looking at other pitches we were glad to be where we were. Upon setting up, there was lots of kids playing and whizzing over our pitch which continued throughout our stay until we set up windbreaks to block access. The site generally felt like there was no rules or care for our experience and you could do what you wanted. There was also broken glass in the trees area outside the toilets which is where the kids and dogs liked to be.
Throughout the stay we made several complaint to the reception due to all of the toilet seats being broken in the ladies, kids loitering throwing toilet paper and water and there was even poo on the floor in the men’s toilet. Overall, the toilet situation was probably the most disappointing.
During our stay there was a bike stolen from the family opposite ours, whilst not the parks fault there did seem to be a lack of security on the site, barriers to the site remained open all day and night however there was a guard put on after this event.
The club house is not on site, you have to walk a small distance and cross a busy road to access which meant the kids could not go alone.
The small parks were for kids were reasonable and the stream offered fun with inflatable boats which was a plus.
Mid stay we were informed that there was coupons for food for the first night and last morning, we was not provided this when arriving however they did give them to us when requested. We were also told about a loyalty card by other campers which I again had to ask for, we have previously staying in Edinburgh and was not told this there either.
All in all it was not much of an enjoyable experience which was disappointing considering we had a great stay in Edinburgh.

Visited Thurston Manor Leisure Center…

Visited Thurston Manor Leisure Center this morning and I had a pleasant visit and enjoyable time, The team led by Jude and Howard have the pool and Changing areas absolutely spotless and all the facilities are in Operation ie Sauna , jacuzzi, etc.
The pool and Changing rooms are spotless and everyone must now Shower before entering the pool.
Well done guys everyone is noticing your hard work.

Better entertainment in a morgue!

Have stayed at the golden coast several times under the previous company when it was brilliant day and night.
This is our first and last time since it changed to Verdant Leisure.
We stayed Monday to Friday.

Swimming pools: the outdoor pool is a lot smaller than it was. The slides are rarely open. And adults are no longer allowed on the green & white flumes.
Both indoor and outdoor pool closed at the height of the day 12-1, all locked up and told to leave the area, so the lifeguards could lunch together? (Surely it’s common sense to stagger lunches and keep the facilities open to paying visitors?)
also, the indoor pool closed early so an external company who hired the swimming pool to do swimming lessons to locals.

Day time entertainment: diabolically bad, if you wanted to join in anything that was on offer, you were told by ill mannered entertainers to go and book at reception where they wanted to charge £7 per person for an activity, after observing said activity it was not worth a 10p per person, and as it’s entertainment should of been included in the entertainment passes purchased?

Entertainers were rude and not interested in anything. Only 1 young girl “Marley?” (I think her name was) she was the only person that was approachable and pleasant the others were dismissive, rude and unprofessional.

Evening entertainment: really really bad!
Nothing on Monday when we arrived just some music playing and a person shouting on the mic that was inaudible.
Tuesday: one of the entertainers trying to sing till 8:30 then music played via requests.
Wednesday: was far better, as the company paid for an act to visit!
Thursday: another poor performance from one of the entertainers screeching songs out with no stage presence, she even said halfway through she didn’t know the words to the song she was “trying” to perform! This ear bashing continued from 8-9:30 when they called last orders at the bar and the venue closed at 10 pm!

The positive, was the accommodation was nice, and as expected.
The Old Mill Pub was as we remembered and was very pleasant. Food was good.
Bowling was great fun and good value.

Summary:
No thought or care is given to the visitors staying Monday to Friday! Young staff who seem to do as they please, close the bar early.
Harry’s sports bar wasn’t open all week, even when people wanted to watch the an England game, without listening to the screeching from the inaudible entertainers screaming something down the mic at 2 year olds, we had to ask for light and TV to be put on. They still didn’t open the bar despite there being 20+ people in there wanting drinks etc.

This place used to be great but has lost its appeal and won’t be returning or recommending. Disappointed! 😞
Will book Haven next time!
