I have used this VPN service for almost 5 years. Here is my summary:

Pros:
1) Good Windows app and browser plugin - browser plugin works even in Opera and has a one-click connect function
2) Good selection of protocols and ports which can be configured in the app, including an XOR obfuscated OpenVPN version for censored countries
3) Wireguard support through downloadable config files
4) Many servers still work in China
5) App compatible with Windows 7
6) Great tech support

Cons:
1) Several of their browser plugin (SecureProxy) servers are dead but still are still shown in the server list, there seems to be no effort to check their status nor fix them
2) The VPN server status page on their web site is not up to date
3) Their Taiwan server (HiNet) now redirects to their Japan server since after half a year a replacement still has not been found, this was the best option for China based users
4) Some issues with their Windows app (sometimes shows connected while it is not and vice versa)

Overall I would very much recommend this service over other options.

Just wanted to update from my review several years ago.

I have been very pleased with the service, and have resubscribed several times now. I have not experienced any downtime (no connection) in China over the last few years, even during sensitive dates.

I have seen comments on here about slow customer service. VPN.ac uses a ticket system rather than live service, but I generally get responses in a few hours. On occasion BBC does fail, but is quickly restored. The review about rude customer service, just seems like trolling to me. Alex has never been rude to me. Perhaps how people approach customer services might have something to do with that.

I have experienced download speeds from their UK servers of over 100mbps and on odd occasions some sites can be very slow, but I don't think that's strictly a VPN issue. For example, streaming from one site can be slow with buffering, while at the same time another site streams much, much faster, so I don't think that is a VPN issue in itself. It could be that some sites can detect a VPN service IP address as a data centre IP not a residential IP.

I use Manjaro Linux,which is a rolling release, and when there is a system update, it can be 2-3Gb to d/load. D/load speeds are often in excess of 80mbps.

VPN.ac ist einer der weniger bekannten Anbieter und wirbt daher mit einer hohen Geschwindigkeit seiner VPN-Server. Das ist zuweilen auch so, allerdings drosselt Switzerland-2 bei M247 von 18 auf 12 Mbit/s und bei noch geringerer Bandbreite kommt kaum noch eine Verbindung zustande. Darüber hinaus kommt es gelegentlich zu Verbindungsaussetzern, die ein De- und Reaktivieren des VPN erfordern. Die Server sind wie bei fast allen anderen Anbietern in Serverzentren gehostet, deren IP-Adressen von Diensten wie Amazon Prime, Google Play, Nuki.io, Immobilienscout24 beim Melden von Anzeigen und teilweise auch Teleboy.ch in der Schweiz blockiert werden. Die Verbindung in VPN-restriktiven öffentlichen WLANs wie am Sharjah Airport ist nicht möglich, da wo man den Dienst am meisten braucht. Noch dazu ewig nervende Captcha-Abfragen und der Googles Lokalisierungsdienst leitet einen an Google Hong Kong weiter. Der Kundendienst löst das Problem nicht, da dies mal komme und ginge. Fakt ist: für Videostreaming ungeeignet, keine österreichischen Server und noch schlimmer: die Apps sind unausgereift! Die AndroidTV-App verbindet sich nicht automatisch beim Start, da man die nötige Berechtigung nicht erteilen kann, die Android-App zeigte ein paar Mal an, sie sei verbunden, obwohl sie es nicht war und blockierte zuweilen auch das Internet. Die macOS App ist veraltet, auf Intel Framework basierend und damit inkompatibel mit Apple Silicon und braucht ewig zum Verbinden, dass man besser die On/Off-App von WireGuard nutzt, die aber keine Funktionalität bietet und zuweilen bei einem Netzwerkwechsel den Internetzugriff blockiert.
Der Kundendienst reagierte anfänglich noch auf mein Feedback, ignoriert aber inzwischen Beschwerden, sogar kritische Verbindungsprobleme und einen Fehler im Kontaktformular, dass die Seite neu lädt ohne zu senden, wenn man große Dateien anfügt.
Leider auch bei diesem VPN-Dienst: Zeitverschwendung und kein Geld wert!

I have used this VPN for more than seven years in China, very satisfied experience. Also good when using outside of China, if you are looking for a no-nonsense VPN.

Whenever there is a problem they refuse any responsibility. Their customer service is abrupt and sometime just rude.
I've been a customer for a while but at the moment their service is not good enough to stream any audio or video at peak times.They refuse to accept this even though I proved it to them with their own tests.
I had to cancel and go elsewhere.

I’m not in China, so I can’t vouch for their services there (sorry), but they’ve been my go-to VPN for about 8 years now. Love their prices and their customer support, plus decent speeds with reliable connections.

I wish there were more servers to choose from but honestly since I’m not in China I don’t need as many, and they’re adding more every month or two. I’ve seen huge growth since I started using them and love the service. I just renewed for another year.

Pretty good VPN for the price. Good speeds but wish there was a few more server locations though.

I have been using this service for some time and I can say they are the best of the group. Affordable and fast compared. Yes there have been instances where I couldnt connect through the service but like most of them, and I have tried a few, all suffer from glitches at some point.

I've been using VPN.ac since summer 2018. I'm in China, so a reliable VPN is important, and after suffering months of no service from Pure VPN, and dodgy service from other VPNs, I didn't want to get caught out again. Saying that, any VPN could have problems over here.

I signed up for VPN.ac just before I left England so I could test it out, with some other providers. The other's didn't work at all, so I stuck with VPN.ac.

During the last GFW clampdown (summer 2018), I experienced some loss of service for a few hours, but one of my colleagues, who was using Vyper, had no service for several days. I was happy to at least be able to use my connections.

The speed can vary quite a bit, depending on the time of day, but I've had speed issues with other providers as well, so that is to be expected. Most of the time HD video works fine. I think the ISP makes a difference as well.

Support tickets (no live chat) are generally answered between a few hours and a day, which is a bit slow by today's standards, but the responses usually get any issues resolved.

So, so far, I don't have any major gripes with VPN.ac

I started using this service as I am in China, the company boast impressive statistics and hype their technology. The truth if though that the service does not keep up with changes in China, making the service unusable and simply frustrating. The application is flakey to say the least, and the slow response from support staff will just get you more frustrated.

Absolutely no help from these guys, there are better alternatives at cheaper prices.
