I rarely take the time to write…

I rarely take the time to write reviews. If something does what it's supposed to do, I generally just get on with life. But after completing the National Three Peaks Challenge, I thought this was worth mentioning.

For me, this trip was a proper test. Three days, three peaks, and conditions ranging from relatively mild weather to snow, wind and freezing temperatures on Ben Nevis. To be honest, I was also a bit behind where I'd have liked to be with my training, so I felt every mile of it.

I wore the Walero Active baselayer set for the entire trip and came away genuinely impressed. It's not magic, and it certainly won't carry you to the summit on a flying carpet. You'll still sweat, you'll still get hot on the climbs, and you'll still have to put the work in. What it does do is make the whole experience noticeably more comfortable.

What stood out most was how well it coped with constantly changing conditions. During hard climbs I was working up a sweat, but I never felt excessively damp or uncomfortable, and when the weather turned cold and exposed, it retained warmth remarkably well. There was much less of that cycle of overheating, cooling down and then feeling clammy that often comes with multi-day mountain trips.

Comfort was excellent throughout. No rubbing, no irritation, and even after three consecutive days on the mountains it remained surprisingly fresh. The lack of odour after three days of hard trekking was probably the biggest surprise. Anyone who has shared accommodation with me after a long day outdoors will appreciate just how impressive that is.

The fit is excellent, the quality feels first-rate, and the fabric dries incredibly quickly. Nothing about it feels gimmicky or over-engineered; it simply does its job exceptionally well. The stitching, construction and overall attention to detail give it the feel of a genuinely premium piece of kit.

I've used plenty of outdoor gear over the years, and very little stands out enough for me to write about afterwards. This did. The mountains were still tough, my legs still knew exactly how much training I'd missed, but I finished each day feeling drier, more comfortable and generally fresher than I expected. For a three-day challenge covering Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in mixed mountain conditions, that's about as strong a recommendation as I can give. 🏔️❄️👍

Three days

Three days. Three peaks. Rain, wind, snow — from +12°C down to -8°C.
The Walero Active Snowdon top and Helvellyn bottoms handled everything flawlessly during a 3-day National Three Peaks trekking trip, including harsh snowy conditions on Ben Nevis.
This is far beyond a standard baselayer. The comfort, thermal regulation, breathability, and overall quality are genuinely elite. In freezing conditions, it retained warmth exceptionally well, while during intense climbs and milder temperatures it efficiently released excess heat and moisture without overheating.
Even after long trekking days, the material stayed incredibly comfortable — no irritation, no chafing, and impressively, absolutely no odor buildup after 3 full days on the mountains. The fabric also dries unbelievably fast — honestly one of the quickest-drying baselayers I’ve used.
Big bonus: the fit and design are outstanding. Functional, premium, modern, and exceptionally well made, with excellent stitching and attention to detail throughout.
Walero Active has seriously raised the bar for performance baselayers.
