Whickham westway reception at the door
Don't appreciate being spoken to like a naughty school girl by the receptionist at whickham practice. I ordered wormer last week, thought next Monday would ok. Did ring first to confirm it was processed. Turned up and got told off about giving 48 hours and how lucky I was that it was actually there. No not lucky, unfortunate that you served me pet
Best Vet Hospital in Newcastle
Thank you so much to the entire West Way Vets team for saving my beloved Libby.
I called on a Friday morning to explain I was concerned about my dog after she had ingested tinsel. The lady was very quick to get me booked in for an emergency appointment at the Fenham hospital.
On arrival I explained that Libby was a nervous older dog as she was a street rescue. The Vet, Joe, came to assess Libby in my car and was extremly patient and caring. He carried Libby through to the consultation room for me and did a thorough check. Turns out she needed an emergency op as she had ingested some wire material along with plastic which could have perforated her intestines.
Honestly can't explain in words how kindand genuine he was. He called me about 4 times to update me on how she was and took the time to explain my options and exactly what they were doing. Thank you so much Joe. Best vet I have ever dealt with.
Libby was admitted to hospital and spent 3 nights there. I was updated along the way by a couple of other Vets who were on the weekend shift, all very kind and helpful.
Being a bervous, street rescue I couldn't help but worry about her wellbeing and even though she hated every minute of being in the hospital, I could tell the team was taking good care of her. A couple weeks later and Libby is wagging her tail and running around the back garden again.
Thank you all so much from the bottom of my heart for saving her life and being calm and patient with her.
Shocking
Shocking, i cant even explain how judgemental they are? We took our pup for its 2nd injection when we were supposed to based on the date she had her 1st one! Allowed us to book it in with no issue only to find out she cant have the same injection because they use a different vaccine so we had to start from scratch and pay all over again, vets looking down on customers with a stinking attitude, apparently BLYTHMANS are completely wrong???
Awful treatment to our boy. Zero stars!
So our 13 year old Parsons Russell Terrier “Buster” took a bad turn. We took him to our vets we have used since he was born and the same for our other two dogs.
Now Westway, hang your heads in shame! Our boy was given a urine and blood test at the cost of about £500. The results come back after a week with little to nothing to worry a great deal about. During the week before Buster got his results back, he was on antibiotics. When the vet rang to give us the results, she said: “We need to investigate further and do an ultrasound test on his kidneys to see if he has stones and it’s going to cost approximately £500 but the test may not find anything!”
She never asked how our boy was. Is he getting better, worse, have his symptoms changed etc. Nothing!!😡
This caused us to panic with the alarm bells ringing, so we went to a different vets. Again and after testing, they told us the same as Westway but did say that they believed his symptoms were more than likely neurological anyway. So by the time it took to act on the right prognosis, Buster deteriorated to the point of fitting, collapsing and pretty much malnourished because we were struggling to get food into him.
We made the right decision with the advice of our new vet to not prolong his suffering and had him euthanised to our absolute despair!
Westway are a joke. DO NOT LET THEM ROB YOU OF HARD EARNED CASH AND MORE IMPORTANTLY YOUR PET!!!
They don't care and give poor service
I have been a client of Westway Vets for over 15 years with my various animals including my Jack Russell terrier. Up till now the service has been variable and expensive. I contacted them this morning and recieved negligent service. My elderly 89 year old disabled mother staying at my house for the week was refused an appointment for her terrier. This is against the 2010 disability act. I informed Lisa on the desk that this was unacceptable and she got clarification from a manager and again an appointment was refused.
This is disgraceful action and I have informed Lisa they have lost a customer of over 15 years as I will not be taking my dog there again.

Say no more .....came to see if it was just me who felt like this and wish I had seen sooner ...saying I haven't claimed for a bill in 2017 ....said no I didnt hand it in ...paid excess of 80 ?I'm now left with 460 to pay or bailiffs really xwhy would I pay excess ....really distressing
Busy looking for a new veterinary practice
These people love you when you're pet first goes to them but once they have screwed you for every penny legally you are literally chucked out the door. No goodbye, good luck nothing. My dog was in the West Road for 4 days £290 a night and it certainly ain't the Ritz. He was handed back to me stinking. Food in his fur from feeding tube and caked on vomit round his face, chin and feet. Matted fur ect. Disgusting surely the two times they knocked him out the could have cleaned him up a bit. They don't even have a little visitors room so you have somewhere nice to sit when visiting you're sick animals. I resorted to laying on a dirty consultation room floor so I could comfort my Animal. Birtley branch is the only one of this company branches that give a dam but at the end of the day 80% of cases end up at the main branch. My pooch is home but receiving ongoing treatment. See how quickly they stop that when they see this and leaving me next to nothing of my insurance amount left. They won't even give me a print out of total cost and what he had done. Strange eh. Greedy un caring company. Shop about for alternatives but read other reviews we cant all be wrong...
Absolutly shocking vets….couldnt care…
Absolutly shocking vets….couldnt care about pets just your wallet, if you care for your pet ditch this vet.
Zero star. AVOID!
Zero star, not even one. Been going to Eden Hill surgery for 34 years, long before horrendous Westways. Our 13 year old precious little dog gets a sore ear every summer. It used to be a simple case of taking him to vet, get good drops, couple of days later his ear mended. Last few years we've had to battle Westways after weeks n weeks n hundreds of pounds of sterile water and rubbish wrong products to prolong treatment and payments...last week I specifically said I just needed Canaural drops to mend sore ear. Instead she sold me TrizChlor saying "it prepares the ear for drops but after 5 days using this he won't even need them...". Needless to say my little lads ear got WORSE. I've now moved him to a (proper) private vet who examined him n immediately prescribed the right drops, and the consultation n drops were CHEAPER than Westways! They are only after sales and profit. Unbelievably when I rang Westways today to inform them we've totally lost confidence and trust in them all she could say was "ah sorry you feel like that. Ok then" and that was it... didn't care why or anything else, says it all. AVOID AVOID AVOID
This company a JOKE
This company a JOKE. STAY CLEAR BE WARNED.
On Friday at 10/10.30pm i took my dog which they diagnosed as a prolapse said needed to be operated on to the cost of £1000. My daughter was with me and said is there's second opinion. So they said antibiotics. But would still need operation. I only had £60 on me as just finished work. The receptionist took the money and snatched the medication back. I left thinking my dog was DYING. So it started to bleed so i thought I'll have to get dog put to sleep. Took to another get who were great with the dog. I waited in car for a phone call. To my shock they said it is not LIFE THREATENING. Was a polyp. Give me steroid. Now there phoning asking for money. Please Stay Clear ripping people off..
5 star for me so far
5 star for me so far! .... I have a rescue Japanese Akita, she has a swollen leg and unable to walk. I rang loads of vets and even contacted the RSPCA as every practice said they couldnt see to her. Westways managed to squeeze me in and is getting seen at the Newcastle branch this afternoon :)
I will keep you all posted!
I would rate this vets a zero!!
I would rate this vets a zero!!! Told our cocker spaniel had arthritis at howdon westway vets, medication to treat arthritis, full examination, got him home to find blood inbetween paws, cracked pads, was told paws were OK, to then a week later still struggling to walk, losing fur on body, weeping paws, foul odour, sore bum , difficulty walking. Emergency app at first vets, absolutely fantastic from start to finish, bloods taken, told to stop arthritis medication, phone call explaining it was his liver, antibiotics given. Absolutely disgusting.. left with sadness, if it had of been diagnosed in the first place my dog wouldn't be in this horrible state now!
Never again.
Was given the completely wrong aftercare and told it didn't matter because it was all the same. It wasn't. Pet in genuine discomfort and pain, couldn't walk, soiled themselves in the night but everybody saying it doesn't matter. Spoke to three people before getting the aftercare we should've received. Funnily enough the right aftercare was amazing, pets happy and living well. We should've received what was medically right in the first place instead of shrugs and "an animal is an animal, what's it matter."
Got through to a receptionist in Newcastle while trying to make an appointment. She wanted to diagnose it herself instead but had no idea what she was talking about. She only seemed to know things after I told her. "And then it will go on the back" "I can't do it on the back because there is an X" "Yes that would definitely mean it won't go on the back"
Never happier to have left.
0 stars if possible!
0 stars if possible!
Our 5 year old cocker wasn't eating, trembling, producing a discharge, eyes sunken in etc.
Tuesday was our 1st appointment at Westways Pelton, they prescribed her pain medication and eye drops as they thought she had conjunctivitis. Getting worse we contacted the vet on Friday with an appointment for Westways Birtley on Saturday morning. They said she has gastroenteritis and prescribed more pain relief and anti diarrhoea syringe (even though they were told she doesn't have diarrhoea!).
£200 later we weren't happy with the outcome as they hadn't listened to a word that was said about symptoms and our dog still wasn't eating. I googled her symptoms which showed up as Pyometra, we contacted the PDSA who got us in for an appointment within 30mins. In less than 10mins they diagnosed her with Pyometra! They booked us in for 9.30 this morning (Sunday) for an emergency spaying, they said we were lucky in go ogling her symptoms as if she was left any longer it would of been a very different story! They removed her uterus and it weighs 1.5kg!! How is that over seen by 2 vets?!
Rude
Been going here for 14 yrs n spent thousands to be spoken to by some 20 something vet like I’m stupid! Disgusted!
I spoke to the vets emergency
I spoke to the vets , they were amazing. Took my puppy who was limping as emergency at 10.30pm. Saw to him and gave him treatment and tablets. Lucy and Jason were great with me and my puppy.
Cannot thank then again. Said they will deal direct with Petplan my insurers, takes the hassle away from me. Also said they will take an xray in a couple days just to be sure he’s good or bad. Also was told to contact them anytime and bring my puppy in if it gets worse. I just have to pay the excess. Very highly recommended. Jason And Lucy I could just tell have a passion and care for customers And thier pets.

Westway Vets Darlington...One of these vets put an innocent rescue dog to sleep, shame on you 😡😡😡 Poor Gandalf didn't deserve this. I'm so so angry and disgusted that a person who is meant to be in a caring profession can get away with this 1😡😡😡
Absolutely disgusting
Absolutely disgusting - they put a rescue dog (who was only in month long foster) to sleep without contacting the owners until afterwards and only them to ask for payment - if they’d have bothered to read the chip all of this could have been avoided and the poor dog would have still been alive, I hope you can all live with that horrible decision & whoever was responsible for such a huge mistake should be investigated properly
Westway Vets Darlington euthanized a…
Westway Vets Darlington euthanized a rescue dog without the owners knowledge and only contacted them after doing so (and wanting £1240 in payment). The dog was being fostered in UK for only one month after being abused all his life then ends up been put to sleep. He was microchipped to the charity concerned so why weren't they contacted before hand? Disgraceful actions!
Absolute disgrace
My daughter and I took my dog for a booster injection which we had already paid for however she did need further tablets for an gland infection which we accepted. The receptionist said we had waited to long for the booster and would have to pay ,my daughter explained the vet had made the appointment and the time was extended due to covid . The receptionist said she would have to check the cctv to confirm this and all calls are recorded.when my daughter explained what happened I went in and took her name and clearly said her attitude was disgraceful and would be making a official complaint -we are regular customers at the West Road branch and have been appalled by the customer service
