Woodland waters Grantham - very poor
We stayed at Woodland Waters for the first week of September 2025 in Birch Lodge, advertised as a luxury log cabin with a hot tub. Unfortunately, our experience fell far short of expectations.
From the moment we arrived, the lodge smelled strongly of stale cooking fat. Every room had cobwebs and dust. The furnishings were poor quality: the sofa was torn and uncomfortable, the coffee table was so flimsy that a leg fell off when moved (luckily not while holding hot drinks), and overall the furniture felt cheap.
The hot tub did work, but being placed directly under trees meant it constantly filled with falling leaves and debris. There was also no provision for drying wet swimwear or towels, either indoors or outdoors.
The TV was not working correctly on arrival, & the inner door of the fridge broke, so nowhere to stand the milk. Though the site manager kindly came to fix the Tv. I raised my concerns with him about the state of the lodge — he was polite, apologetic, and even removed some cobwebs himself. He arranged for cleaners the following day, but sadly the property remained largely unchanged.
We had booked mainly for the fishing, using both the specimen and match lakes. Fishing was poor, and most pegs were in disrepair. Each one I used required me to clear litter before starting.
The restaurant and clubhouse offered a pool table and dartboard, but both were in poor condition. Staff even warned us that the darts were unusable, which turned out to be true. The pool table area was also overdue a thorough clean.
To the manager’s credit, he did refund 25% of our booking on the first day in recognition of the issues, and we followed up with him again by email. However, given that the week’s stay cost over £1,000, the overall standard was unacceptable.
Sadly, we left a day early due to our disappointment. While I hope management takes this feedback seriously and makes improvements, I would not return and cannot recommend Woodland Waters in its current state.
