I ordered a SHIRE BUCKINGHAM 7x7 SHED in April 2020 for the competitive price of £499.99 (£524.98 including delivery to an Orange zone) at a time when most competitors were out of stock. The shed arrived on the promised day, delivered inside our courtyard by a friendly driver who had driven it from the factory the day before. Only one long batten was missing.

A1 provide an excellent Timber Building Care Sheet with their invoice and, ‘recommend that you treat your building with a high-quality preservative as soon as possible’. Forget about cheap Cuprinol! I took their advice and applied 2 coats of Sadolin preservative to the unassembled parts, followed by 2 coats of Sadolin stain. I would definitely recommend spending time to make a sound & even foundation, and to repaint the shed regularly to prevent it rotting away.

The shed is made from ‘sustainable timber from European forests’, selected with value for money in mind. There are several splits and holes in the thin timber, so your own silicon protection is essential.

I recommend that you read Trustpilot reviews of Shire Garden Buildings before deciding whether a Shire shed is for you. Shire Garden Buildings rate only 2.6 out of 5 from over 500 reviews, with 36% very good but 45% bad.

A1 describe the assembly as ‘straightforward’, and claim that ‘normally 2 people can usually complete the job in 2-4 hours’. However, our 2 skilled handymen took a full 10 hour day to assemble it.

There are no pre-drilled holes or clever IKEA-style corner joints to ensure level assembly, which meant that the doors were ill-fitting and needed planing down. The door latch is rather flimsy.

Is this a shed? Is this a summerhouse? Is this your very own Buckingham Palace? If you do buy one, you'll be the one to decide...

Placed an order back in April for a small shed and was never fulfilled after 4 months. I emailed the customer support before placing the order to make sure the item was in stock and I had the assurance the item was in stock and ready to be delivered in 5 days. Turned out the item was never in stock and 3 months after holding my money they offered a different model because the one I chose was not available from the manufacturer.

Please avoid this business. The take your money for items they don't have in stock.

It took 10 days for the refund to be complete after I asked them to cancel the order, aster a few emails advising the item might be available in October.

Really? 7 month delivery for an item?

Unlike other people, I’m afraid my experience of A1 sheds was very poor. They placed my order with a manufacturer who proved to be utterly unreliable. Then when everything went wrong it became clear that they have little involvement in monitoring progress on orders and no weight at all when it comes to intervening if problems arise.

My situation was simple: around five weeks after placing my order with A1 for a very nice shed, value £2,000+, I was contacted by the manufacturer who advised me they would be delivering and installing my shed on a specific date. I thus cleared my diary and ensured the site was ready. Then, on the day of installation, I was ‘phoned by a representative of the manufacturer who advised me that the ‘fitter was running a bit behind’. He would be with us between 11am and 2pm.

Approaching 2pm, I was contacted again by a different person and told that the delivery wouldn’t be taking place. Would it be coming the next day? No-one knew. A few days? Weeks? Months? No, no-one could tell me. ‘The production team would discuss it.’

I contacted A1, who were very apologetic and e-mailed the manufacturer. That prompted another call from a different person, during which she told me they had no idea when I might have my shed. During a heated discussion, she inadvertently revealed that the shed hadn’t yet been completed. In other words, I had been lied to earlier in the day. When I suggested this they seemed offended. They said they had no idea who had spoken to me earlier and passed on incorrect information. They even tried to deny the call had taken place, although my mobile ‘phone records say otherwise.

Why hadn’t I been contacted earlier if the shed wasn’t ready? The day before, perhaps, so I didn’t waste a day? I was told ‘we only discovered it at 2pm today.’ I think this is where I realised they were making it up as they went along.

Well, I have got my money back but in truth no-one at the manufacturer seemed to care very much about the inconvenience caused (appointments cancelled, my garden now strewn with items that should be in the shed) and no-one either at A1 or the manufacturer offered any solution other than to wait until the shed is ready. A1 were apologetic but clearly have no influence at all with the manufacturer.

I might have been more understanding if this had been a covid related problem, but no-one suggested this – and it would still be hard to understand why I couldn’t have been told earlier there were problems with the production.

My advice? Well, you need to understand that if you buy a shed made by a company called TGB you are taking a risk. And if you are ordering a shed, try to use someone who is in control of both the manufacturing and delivering process (as I am now doing with a replacement). Middle men such as A1 are only worth involving when they deliver added value. Apart from being very kind and understanding on the ‘phone, it was clear that A1 really couldn’t do much to help me when a problem arose and have no influence over the manufacturers whose products they advertise and sell.

Ordered a small summerhouse from A1 Sheds and was told it would be delivered on the 11th of June-arrived bang on time! Going through the installation booklet I found a problem which I then discussed with them. It seemed that the best way around my problem was if they would send me some extra timber, which they did free of charge! Excellent.

Delighted with A1Sheds. I bought a large shed and some base grids online. They emailed back to advise the base grids wouldn’t allow the shed to be secured properly and refunded the grids with my agreement. They also warned me there was a large demand at the moment for the plastic shed I’d ordered and it could take up to 3 weeks for delivery, honesty which I appreciated.

They then delighted me with the shed arriving within 3 days!

We’ve previously had a summer house and large hut from A1 sheds which were amazing quality. Although the summer house is still going strong, unfortunately after 20 years the hut took a beating from the wet weather over the winter and badly needed replacing. So without considering anyone else we went straight to A1 sheds to order a replacement.
As previously their knowledge and guidance was very much appreciated as we needed a specific type to fit the available space. They recommended a timber shed from Powersheds which was delivered before the due date which was amazing.
Impressed once again with the service and reliability from a local company. A1 by name, A1 by nature.

Bought a Custom Shedbar for a clients double garden doors I was fitting. Quick delivery and excellent communication. Quality galvanised Shedbar. Recommended.

We had been looking for a Summerhouse for some time. After some disappointing encounters with other sales personnel from some local companies we happened upon A1 sheds in Tranent. We arrived at the yard, which houses an impressive array of Summerhouses, sheds etc., only to find it was closed on Wednesdays! However, the owner Gerry was there and he stayed for some considerable time , showing us round and explaining to us the different options we had which would optimise our prospective purchase. Gerry was patient, extremely courteous and up front in every aspect. It was painfully obvious that here was a man who really does CARE.
We had no hesitation in going ahead and purchasing the "Sunningdale" Summerhouse 8 x 8.
Long story short, there were one or two little problems when the house was erected. Nothing at all major and handled with ease by Gerry's other half, Fiona. The construction team arrived very shortly thereafter and rectified the little problems we had. Gerry himself then came to inspect the house and wasn't happy until we said that we were delighted!
Our Summerhouse is amazing! Worth every penny and them some!
I would not hesitate to recommend A1 sheds. They are the consummate professionals and can deliver your every need.

Purchased A1 sheds best quality shed base. The delivery was very quick and the base quality was excellent. All the panels slotted together as they should and I built the cabin on top. Please note you must make sure the ground is absolutely level.

Prompt delivery and excellent quality of product

The shed was exactly as described with pretty straight forward instructions. Assembly was easy and now painted it looks great. My only suggestion would be for the bag of nails etc to be separated into individual bags for the different types. Very happy with the end product.
