Great station generally.. rubbish app

Have been listening since day 1 and still really like it. Frank Skinner show makes me laugh out loud.
However, used to always listen on the app but now every time I try to sign it it says it doesn’t recognise me. So frustrating and puts me off listening at home. Sort out the app!

It's Awful, had to switch off.

It's Awful, although they have a no repeat guarantee, they still play the same horrendous playlist day in day out and have done now for years, and the songs they repeat EVERY day are terrible songs that make me want to rip my eardrums out, and don't get me started on that 'running in the family song' it's one of the worst songs ever written, yet they still play it everyday!!! WHY???? I think they are trying to send us all absolutely insane with the repetition.

Painful

Just non stop stupidness, barely any music playing just the presenters laughing or talking of things no one cares about.

There are constantly repeated phrases, they drill into your brain it is so relentless.

Can't listen to it anymore, just painful

Utter Dross

Switched on Absolute 60's this morning hoping to hear some music. No chance. One advert after the other & then Frank Skinner boring everyone to death with a long tail about buying clogs in Amsterdam. Thrilling! Won't be bothering again.

Given up on it…

I've been listening to Absolute since it started as Virgin Radio in the 90s, mainly because I love the music. But I've given up on it now. The constant pushing of the £3.99 a month subscription for premium features was getting on my nerves and I was shocked that to listen on the app, as I often did, I now suddenly had to enter my contact details after three free goes. But the final straw came when I tweeted a fact about a tune to a presenter on his show after switching on in the car and he tweeted back to say to wash my ears out! Seemed typical of the arrogance now of a station which I thought encouraged listener interaction. No apology so I've boycotted it since and listen to Heart, mainly in an app which doesn't ask for my details.

Absolute radio is absolutely rubbish…

Absolute radio is absolutely rubbish now. some morning's I can to work and the only thing I've listened to is adverts .they keep pushing the add free subscription for extra money and keep putting load of add on to force you to subscribe all they've done is pushed me away to heart 80s which has hardly any adds .it's a shame really because absolute was my go to station. I can't standard the concept of pay per listen radio

Just stop the Gallagher obsession.

I like Absolute radio in the whole. There are two things that grind my gears though. 1. Gallagher brothers obsession. They’ve had their day. Their music is boring and out of date. So why are they always on the radio ? And why do they get interviews all the time replayed ad nauseum ? Who cares what they think. 2. Whamaggeddon. Really ? How many years now ? I mean mildly amusing year one but year 8, 9 is it now ? Can’t you think of something a bit different just for a change. I don’t particularly like the song either but it’s just lazy radio.

Could drive someone to insanity

Why do I have to listen to a manchild scream about the most unfunny bland crap
every morning at half 7 when I'm just trying to quietly plod on with some work... anyway up next is the exact same songs as every day the last 3 months in a slightly different order.

Hope you like generic bland overplayed crap because that's what you get. Think if I actually "hadn't heard that for ages" when they played something I might have a heart attack

OH and George ezra has just come on... just end me already

Music is average, app was made by an apprentice.

Music is ok, however the app must have been made by an apprentice. Unreliable on android if you can actually get it to play at all. When trying to play a station, the play button just pins, support are awefull. Spending too much time on making 400 stations rather than just making the basics work.

Biased left wing news/propaganda

The music isn’t bad but the news isn’t news it’s a Labour Party propaganda slot… I just couldn’t listen to it anymore and deleted the app and removed it from my radio.

I just can't stand hearing the fake over the top laugh from Dave berry every 5-minutes all through the morning it's so pathetic he does this constantly even when things are not at all funny I could punch him.

I am usually subjected to Absolute…

I am usually subjected to Absolute Radio (the regular one, not 90s 00s etc) at work 9+ hours a day, so I feel I am qualified to leave a balanced opinion.

Commercial radio is what it is. I am fairly certain none of us would choose to listen to ads. In some workplaces you may take turns listening to each other’s Spotify everyday. Hearing something fresh everyday would be my preference, by that I mean different artists, genres, old and new etc

Unfortunately this is where Absolute falls down, although to be fair every radio station is guilty of this. It is quite simply the same artists all day, every day. There is a no repeated song guarantee between 9am and 5pm. However the same artists are repeated within that time frame. And this is repeated every day. You can expect to hear the same artists and songs every single day and it becomes tiresome very quickly.

There is so much music out there, particularly within the indie, rock and alternative genres which Absolute plays. I would recommend the station switches up the songs they play by their favourite artists. For example, you will likely only hear the same 4 or 5 songs by Blur, Oasis or Queen. These bands produced lots of material and singles than what is played on Absolute. Wouldn’t there be an opportunity there to have a no artist repeated guarantee between 9am and 5pm? It would be nice to listen one day and have no idea who or what you might hear next.

Returning to the ads, I am aware Absolute have recently launched a Premium service, where there are no ads. Personally I would not pay for such a service as I already have Spotify for my private use. The idea itself of radio with no ads and all the other features and extra stations is at least forward thinking for commercial radio even if it is a money grab. However in the workplace this service isn’t accessible even if someone else decided to pay for it.

So the problem here is that whilst listening to the regular station, you are subjected to hearing ads for this premium service constantly to the point where it becomes more than a little tedious. When it isn’t being advertised, the presenters are often talking about it. You are then obviously forced to listen through the regular ads also. All in all, it is very hard not to become irritated by it all, when you hear it for 9 hours a day.

I would also like to mention the stations motto, ‘Where real music matters’. I strongly dislike this saying. To me, what this is implying is that anything without guitars or drums isn’t real, whereas music is ultimately an art form and cannot be simply held down by certain boundaries. I love rock music. I also love dance and electronic music. I also love technical death metal. I love R’nB.00s Hip Hop Drum ‘N’Bass and some classical/soundtrack. I think you get the picture here! Saying real
Music is only rock and indie is extremely insulting and condescending to those who love all genres. The real irritation though is having this motto repeated every day. Recently a feature was even made out of this on one of the shows.

Another aspect of radio is of course, the jingles. The voice over bloke I personally find extremely annoying, although most may disagree.

Also the DJs. All I will say here is that mindless, asinine chatter may be entertaining for some. This is not the case for me. The breakfast and drive time shows are unfortunately loaded with this. Combine it with the ads, limited playlist and all the above? Yeah, you may see where I am coming from here.

Some positives as there are some! As I say I am forced to listen throughout the day, and by far my favourite presenter is Leona Graham. She is knowledgable, often talks about the artists/songs she has just played providing some interesting facts about them. For example, I may be naive but I had no idea Sting provided backing vocals on ‘Money for Northing’ by Dire Straits. She then provided the story behind that. More stuff like that please!

I also like ‘Through the Decades’. How about a similar feature where one hour on the station is dedicated to playing a song from each year, say start in 1990 and finish at 2010, as an example.

What I would like to see (hear)….

More artists and more of their catalogue rather than the same songs every day/week/month/year.

Actual extended discussion of the music being played where possible, instead of the dumb chatter

More features such as ‘Through the Decades’ on air during the regular working day on the generic station, could this be done at 2pm maybe? I basically making a feature out of each hour or finding a way to present the music in a more engaging way consistently through the day would be a start.
