Serious Concerns About Transparency, Construction Standards, and Professional Conduct

During my project, I encountered several issues that raised serious concerns about transparency, construction quality, and professionalism. The first red flag was that I was not provided with the council‑approved plans, even after requesting these multiple times. I had to approach the council directly to obtain a copy. When I finally received the plans, it became clear that the footings installed on site did not match the engineered drawings approved by the council. The constructed footing was significantly undersized — by a factor of at least 10 compared to what was specified. In fact, only a couple of dry bags of concrete mix had been tipped into the hole.
When I raised these discrepancies, the response I received was dismissive. It was implied I was a troublemaker, and I was told that they had been building patios for 20 years without incident, and essentially told to re-construct the footing myself. Instead of addressing the clear mismatch between the approved plans and the work performed, I was met with excuses about access limitations — despite the fact that they had already completed a site survey and produced drawings based on that survey.
The tone throughout these interactions was extremely rude and arrogant. It was only after I contacted the council and involved them directly that the company agreed to increase the footing sizes. Even then, I have genuine doubts that the anchor features shown on the engineered drawings were included.
This was my experience, and I’m sharing it so others can approach their decision with full awareness. I strongly recommend requesting all plans upfront, verifying that construction matches the approved engineering drawings, and ensuring everything is documented in writing before work begins.
