The worst experience I have had at a so called 4 star hotel, its not even a 1 star

Room 218 at the Palace Hotel Buxton.
We paid £500 for two days including meals and parking. We had planned this for some time as we go to Buxton opera house regularly and have seen the external of the Palace, always wanting to stay there. You will see why we are so disappointed and why we were so upset.

THE ROOM
Firstly, the décor is very tatty and well below standard of a so-called executive (superior) room. (Photo's available). NO EXPLANATION of the very very poor standard of painting etc from the company.

The bed itself was not clean and had stains on both bedhead and bottom. EXPLANATION from the company was that the marks were glue.

The main door into the room was ill fitting and tatty with missed paint around the door stations. NO EXPLANATION from the company

The fan was filthy (Photo's available) EXPLANATION from the company was that it was adhesive and had now been cleaned.

The mini fridge was not secure and each time the door was opened could have slid right off the polished table it was on and caused injury. (Photo's available)NO EXPLANATION from the company.

The window on the bottom was cracked in a few places (Photo's available).EXPLANATION was that the window had to be made and they were waiting for it, they did not say how long they had been waiting.

The room itself was not the one advertised when we booked, it had a small table no dining chairs and the easy chairs were next to the small table at the window, there was no room for the layout pictured. EXPLANATION was that we should have looked at the small print when booking, however we booked direct with them and the advisor did not mention that photo was for illustration only, a poor way of doing business from a supposed 4 star hotel.

The Bathroom
The toilet pedestal was not secure to the floor and moved when lifted or sat on. (photos available)
This was obviously a hazard as well as the flooring not fitting and bunched up could have caused a trip and we were told there was no maintenance available on a Friday teatime to fix it. The décor was again extremely poor with the sealing around the bottom not sticking and paint missed on the door. EXPLANATION was they did not know why the maintenance was not available but nothing about the problems.

The hot water stopped working in the shower on the Friday night, I had a cold shower and was still not working on the Saturday morning so we could not have a shower which again is unacceptable. EXPLANATION We were told by the staff that there was no one available on the Friday again look at the hot water situation.

The dining/Bar experience
The glasses were already on the table for water, one had the remnants or someone’s lipstick on it so we opted for a drink from the bar, which came.
We then had the starter which was shop bought samosas and salmon fishcakes as on the menu, however there was only one fishcake so should have been fishcake on the menu. Surely. The fishcake was accompanied by salad and potato. The potato's were rotten. I did get an apology. EXPLANATION the potatoes were only bruised not rotten ( photo's available). You cannot bruise a potato from inside without bruising the outside, it was the inside that was rotten but they continued to say bruised. An apology but no offer of refund.
We then order two more drinks to have with our main course but they never arrived, when we paid for the drinks, the the docket was still, for the drinks we never got was still on the order board and had not been given to the bar, hardly one star service never mind 3.

After the meal I ordered a simple drink. 1 rum,1 lime shot in a half of coke with ice. There was no one else at the bar, I got 1 shot of rum with 1 shot of lime in a small glass. I then repeated my order, in a quarter glass of coke she poured the other drink in, no apology no smile just a sullen face as if she did not want to be there. I was charged for a half coke but knew it was useless to say anything, I later realised she had the attitude of staff in a tired hotel. Less then a 1* approach and standard. we were due to stay on the Saturday but checked out and had a refund for that day. I wrote a letter of complaint to the customer services as instructed by the manager of the hotel, the customer service replied and said they would not refund anything for the day we had spent there, I then replied saying it was very poor service from them, they then replied saying they would not enter into any more correspondence with me (copies of all mails available). I then searched for head office and was told by them they do not have an executive office to deal with deadlocked complaints which I find astounding , however a helpful person asked me to send my concerns to the PA of directors, I did and they just sent to the general manager of the hotel in question, who offered me an upgrade when i booked again...subject to availability, as if I would ever stay there again,

Cockroaches, Filth, and incompetent staff

Very filthy and I got rashes and bumps from sleeping on their dirty bed. No housekeeping available to clean. They didn't even have clean sheets to give me so I could change it myself. In addition, there was a burnt Cockroach found in my hotel room! Hotel staff are not very competent either. The didn't want to refund my stay either, although I linked evidence (through photos showing the state of their hotel)
Reporting to HSE, and the Local Authority Environmental Health, as well as potentially going through small claims court if their management refuse to refund me.

I would not give thus hotel 1 star but…

I would not give thus hotel 1 star but I had to click on it.
I stayed here with my son in March for a two day visit .We had booked a twin room. On the second night I was woken by a man in a suit standing over me. He was wearing a black suit and was of chinese origin.
When I asked what the he'll was he doing he replied a smoke alarm went off.
I told him neither my son or I smoked.
When he realised I wasn't alone in the room he left and came on with another man and when they saw my son [who's a big lad) they said they re must be a problem with the bathroom light and left when my son told them.to get the he'll out. I was awake for the rest of the night.
It was a good job my son didn't have a few drinks on him or it would have turned very nasty.
We had a very early flight the next morning and I reported the incident at reception, the girl seemed surprised and I gave my details as she said she would report the incident.
I have never heard anything back from this hotel despite contacting them several times. Not even an apology.
This was a very serious matter and only because I was getting a very early flight I would gone further there and then.
So be warned , be very careful and do not book this hotel.

Vi har nu været på 2 Britinia Hoteller

Vi har nu været på 2 Britinia Hoteller, som var booket med det selskab vi rejste med. Vi have aldrig selv booket sådanne hoteller. 🌟

Avoid like the plague and thank me later

Avoid at all costs - doesn’t even deserve one star
Do not be fooled by the chandelier and fancy reception - this is clearly the only part of the hotel of which any money has gone into.
Arrived at 3pm, went to check in with one of the two men at reception. We were immediately demanded ID, with no greeting, smile or any hint of good customer service. Then refused check in as my booking name had been put as Sarah instead of Sara - BY A STAFF MEMBER, who confirmed my reservation via phone. I explained this and showed confirmation email, phone call history to the hotel and bank statement, but was still denied access to my room. After 3 HOURS, I was finally allowed to check in when the staff member owned up to his mistake. I tried talking to the second of the two receptionists, who barked at me that his colleague would ‘deal with me’. I then watched as a clearly nervous and sweet customer tried telling him that a staff member had repeatedly tried entering his room. The customer was shouted at and not believed, despite his obvious fear.
Once finally in the room (windowless), I was hit with a stench of weed - yes weed, the illegal substance. The room was unbearably hot, with broken AC, no window, and a sad excuse for a fan blowing hot air throughout the hotbox. Extremely uncomfortable and impossible to sleep in until I gathered all towels i could find, drenched them in cold water and covered myself to offer myself a small amount of relief. If I wanted to go to a sauna, I would have booked a spa day.
The bathroom was more like a slip and slide, there was no main light in the room meaning no spare sockets for phone charging or anything else as the two were taken up by the fan and lamp (the only light source as no window).
Overall, terrible experience. Horrible staff, horrible conditions, horrible night.

Such a disappointment

Such a disappointment following a recent stay at your Scarborough hotel. My partner and I stayed in room 2004 on the night of 21st June, as we were attending a wedding on the sunday, when we got up in the morning we discovered there was no electricity in the room. I immediately informed reception, and I was told that the issue was known and was being dealt with. However, the power remained off for the entire morning, which caused significant inconvenience.

As we were due at an important event, we had no choice but to go to another hotel to use a friend’s room to get ready. This was not only stressful and disruptive but also entirely unacceptable given the basic expectation of a functioning room when booking hotel accommodation. Emailed them a week ago to let them know and had no response whatsoever!

Grand Burstin Hotel Folkestone Avoid this place at all costs

Avoid this place at all costs. It’s filthy, rundown and desperately in need of a complete overhaul (it should be just demolish). The corridors reek of sweat, urine, alcohole and damp creating a vomiting smell from the moment you step in. The premises were filled with intoxicated guests, making the environment feel unsafe and uncomfortable. As for the food—it barely met basic standards. There was hardly anything edible available and the coffee and juices were so unpleasant they were undrinkable. We had originally booked for two nights, but the experience was so appalling that we chose to leave after just one. In the middle of the night the alarm went off as allegedly some was smoking in the room- no reasurance from the staff, just nothing. Sadly, there wasn’t a single redeeming quality about our stay. I booked a hotel not a hostel. Stay away at all cost. Its disguisting...

Room covered in bird faeces

This company is a disgrace. Royal Clifton Southport. It was a break after finishing Chemo of which they where aware at point of booking. Checked in with an early check in to find the allocated room was full of pigeon faeces. Have been insulted with a £12 deduction for a new booking in this filthy hotel. That amount does not even cover the cost of the wasted early check in having to move rooms. Have tried to reach out by a complaint and Facebook it appears they have no interest in resolving. Next step will be environmental health with the images Shame on you Britannia

Do not ever go to royal court hotel…

Do not ever go to royal court hotel coventry. There is a car park scam in place. Where they try not to let you put your details into the parking reg system. And let their private run car park fine you. It's totally impossible to call them, or appeal. And after 6 months of contacting and physically going in. Ended with fine rising to £215 and ccj. Disgraceful system and service. Should be reported to trading standards

Avoid the Britannia Hotel

Avoid the Britannia Hotel Manchester City Centre - The worst hotel I have ever experienced for customer service.
Rude, disrespectful staff. If you have an issue you will literally need to stand at the reception desk. I had 2 phones calling the reception area for over 40 minutes while a friend stood at reception watching the receptionist do nothing. Shocking!!! It got to the point where I phoned my friend and asked them to pass the phone to the receptionist. A rude male come to the phone who did not care about my concerns raised and he put the phone down. How an hotel can employ such rude, inconsiderate, unprofessional staff with zero customer service skills totally shocks me. I have raised my concerns regarding this hotel to the MD and await a response.

Experience

When I came to my room my card didnt work, once it got sorted I was met with this despicable smell which reeked of sweat and chocolate cake. Tried to open wardrobe but the sliding door came off of its hinges and almost took me out. Took a shower and almost got 3rd degree burns, turned on the tap, water was brown. Bath was also missing a panel which I later found under my pillow. Bed had questionable stains and my legs were hanging off the end all night (I am 4'12). The same night, chandelier fell off the ceiling. Wall colour gave me a migrane. Carpet was off putting. The next day I went for my tea, was stuck on toilet for hours. School came on my third day, kids were running up and down corriders and shouting. Just as they left another one arrived. Heard screaming from other room, when I went to investigate and all screaming stopped abruptly then heard someone drop to floor. Hairdryer exploded and set off fire alarm. Room refused to go under 27°C. Had a 4k flatscreen TV.

Overall, would recommend a stay!

Newcastle Airport hotel

The Britannia hotel was on the other side of the parking outside the airport terminal. It was slightly more difficult to find than I expected, best to use an online map or ask airport staff to point you in the right direction. There are many bad reviews here but I understand the hotel has been renovated.
I monitored the prices for 1 month before my stay but I noticed the lowest price occurred on the same day, just before I stayed there. So I booked.
It was quiet when I entered at 10pm, I had to ring the bell. It took about one minute to get the key. The room was medium sized looked like a typical hotel room, everything was fine and normal. There was a bath and tea/coffee making facilities.
I was extremely tired so I fell asleep quickly. I did notice the mattress was not the best however, but this did not stop me from having a great sleep.
Don't let bad reviews put you off, it's just a typical hotel room!

Don't go to the Trecarn Hotel.Torbay

If you want a down a hotel that`s down at heel and in need of a redec and upgrade you won`t be disappointed if you stay at the Tecarn Hotel Torbay.

The first problem, on the arrival of 50 people at the hotel, was that the lift broke down. When it was fixed it could only carry one person at a time, and it remained in that condition.
My room was on the 2nd floor - not happy

As a single person I booked a single room, I was horrified to find the box room I was given was no bigger than 6ft x 10ft, with an adjoining shabby bathroom. on using the handbasin, when I pulled the plug out the plumbing screeched and dirty water bubbled up though the shower outlet.
The carpet in the bedroom was dirty, accompanied by an equally dirty, stained chair. The TV picture needed correcting and the wardrobe door`s hinge was hanging off.
I have to say though, the staff did get me a clean chair, fixed the TV and wardrobe hinge - all with good attitude.
There is no room service, towels are not changed, bins are not emptied.

Food was utterly atrocious: all food was either tinned, frozen or processed. No fresh fruit or vegetables - if you stayed longer than a week you would probably get Scurvy
The toaster provided at breakfast time, either gently warmed the bread or burnt it black'
Bread rolls, which were the warm in the oven kind were usually dark on the outside and undercooked in the centre.

The bed was comfortable and the staff were amiable.

I wont be rushing back to this or any other Britannia Hotel

Duty manager a disgrace !

Disgusting staff attitude from the duty manager leaving 2 people who had travelled over 400 miles stranded because they refused entry to an 18 year old and a 17 year old because the 18 year old wasn't the parent ! Wish I had looked at the reviews before booking as now I've to fight to get my money back ! Arrogant Disgusting "man" I hope one day his children are stranded without help far away from home! The room came in a shocking situation. Reported to Information commissioner

The room came in a shocking situation. The bathroom is shown in the photo and was shocking. The room was so shocking we were unable to stay. Then, despite promising the refund would be processed the next day, I received no contact for a whole week. After a week I phoned and was told they would only do a refund if I sent my bank details in an unencrypted email. This was not the method that I used to pay and was not prepared to send bank details in the clear to a shared inbox.

They’ve been reported to the information commissioner’s office for their data protection issues

Absolutely awful filthy room and hallways.Food was a disgrace little of it and what was there was tasteless. I mean what hotel has no milk at breakfast no cereal.I could go on but doubt I'd have enough room for all the negatives .The poor chap on the reception was nice but I feel he spends his whole day apologising to people .YES it's a budget hotel I've stayed in many budget hotels but they are at least clean and have MILK. .
