I just paid the same bill for a second time- there’s nothing good about this portal, from billing to user interface.
This portal is a major step backward. It repeatedly labels healthcare items as “overdue” even when they have already been completed. For example, it says my bloodwork is overdue even though I had it done in June, and it lists an eye exam as overdue even though I recently had one. There is no apparent way for me to report that these services were completed, correct the information, or dismiss irrelevant reminders.
It also automatically populated a podiatry exam as overdue simply because I have'nt had my toenails trimmed, even though I have never been told that I need a separate podiatry examination for that service. I am very capable or maintaining my own nails, and I don't have foot problems! The portal presents all of these items as though I have neglected necessary medical care, without providing any explanation of why they were added, or whether they are actually recommended by my doctor.
This is not just visually annoying. Incorrect “overdue” warnings make it difficult to tell which healthcare tasks genuinely require attention. When a medical portal displays inaccurate information that patients cannot correct, it creates unnecessary confusion, and undermines confidence in the rest of the record. I saw my Dr 6 weeks ago- nothings changed.
Patients should be able to mark outside services as completed, submit the date and provider, dismiss reminders that do not apply, and clearly distinguish between a general automated recommendation and something specifically ordered by their doctor. Completed CommonSpirit lab work should certainly update correctly within CommonSpirit’s own system.
A patient portal is supposed to help people manage their healthcare. This one creates clutter, frustration, and unnecessary concern by presenting questionable or outdated information as fact while giving the patient no meaningful control over it. CommonSpirit needs to fix the data synchronization, explain the source of these reminders, and give patients a practical way to correct inaccurate information.
