Disappointing Experience – Would Not Recommend
I sent my sentimental Tiffany silver necklace to this company for gold plating, as it was a gift from my late father, and I now wear gold more than silver. Given that Tiffany is a well-known and expensive brand, I expected a high level of care and professionalism. Unfortunately, my experience was nothing short of frustrating.

From the start, the company made a major error – they sent me someone else’s order, and my necklace was sent to a completely different customer. Thankfully, that person was honest and returned it, but the fact that a Tiffany necklace could have easily been lost or kept by someone else is unacceptable. As a ‘gesture of goodwill,’ I was given store credit as an apology, but that was just the beginning of the issues.

I had paid extra for a thicker gold plating that was supposed to last for years, yet within just three months, the gold completely wore off. When I contacted the company, they offered me the option to either replate it or remove the gold entirely. I chose to remove it, as I didn’t want to go through the same issue again. However, when my necklace was returned, the gold removal was incomplete, leaving it with an uneven gold tinge instead of its original silver finish.

At this point, I asked for a refund, as I had not received the service I had paid for. Eventually, they refunded me—but only the original amount—and they removed all the store credit they had previously given me as an apology. After months of wasted time and stress, I’m left with a sentimental necklace that no longer looks as it should, no compensation for the hassle, and a disappointing lack of understanding and communication from their team.

I would absolutely not recommend this company. Their handling of valuable and sentimental jewelry, poor attention to detail, and lack of real accountability make them a business to avoid.

My taste in jewellery has changed and I had several items bought 10-15 years ago that I was no longer wearing. Realistic resale value for jewellery on eg vinted is very disappointing. I can sell by weight locally but Finematter’s credit offering allowed me to get a much higher price and use that to buy a new piece. Each time I sent an item off it arrived and was valued incredibly quickly and the weights were a very close match to my own weights (on a less accurate scale) so no disappointing surprises.
I also used Finematter to re-plate a favourite pair of earrings. Really quick turnaround even though it was right before Christmas. Too soon to say how it lasts but they look great and I wear daily.
I even had an easy return and exchange experience when I bought something new and wanted to exchange for another size. My return arrived quickly despite the destination being LA while the January 2025 fires raged and I’ve just received the exchange.
I imagine it is better for the makers if customers buy direct but when purchasing from abroad the customs situation can be unclear and where customs are due the courier also charges an admin fee. I felt confident ordering via Finematter as I knew there would be no additional costs. Trading in older jewellery also allowed me to buy something I wouldn’t otherwise have been able to afford.

Siobhan was very attentive and helpful. He gave high quality customer service and was always very nice. He always answered all my questions in a professional and professional manner.
I got a Lions International Pin pen plated as one area got damaged. The team did an amazing job repairing it as it looks brand new and the problem area completely disappeared. I will work with them again for my other Lions pins and I will recommend their services to my friends and family.

I had an old gold plated ring that was my mothers. She gave it to my daughter before she passed and my daughter LOVES it and wears everyday. The gold platting had rubbed off and it was looking ROUGH. I send the ring to Finematter to have replated and the turnaround and communication were amazing. I gave this to her Christmas morning and she cried her eyes out...as did everyone. Best thing I could have done!

I highly recommend Fine Matter for replating services. The turn around is very fast and the process is super easy. They also offer a quality 2.5 micron coating which is far superior to the 0.5 or 1 micron coating you get at most places. I sent two silver necklaces which have enormous sentimental value and they were dull and horrid. They came back gleaming, sparkling and golden. They look amazing and like new! I plan to give several of my jewellery items a new lease of life with Fine Matter over the next few months. The customer service is also excellent and my email questions were answered promptly and in a friendly manner.

I just found this company on google, I wasn’t even sure if this service was a thing. They did every they said they they’d do and my necklace turned out great. Seems to be fully restored.

Had a ring plated in white gold with their thickest and most expensive option ($145), and while it looked good at first, within two months it had completely worn off.

I had a bronze ring I really wanted plating in gold and wow did Finematter complete a fantatsic replate. I was blown away by the service to be honest. As bronze is classed as costume jewellry there were no guarantees that the plating would take but it is simply stunning. Contact was brilliant throughout (Siobhan in particular) and the whole process took less than a week. As soon as my ring arrived with Finematter they had refurbished it and sent it back out to me in less than 24 hours! I am very impressed and would definitely use them again.
