FNB's Disgusting Service – They Rip Off Their Clients!

I am absolutely appalled by FNB’s behavior and their complete disregard for their clients. This bank has become nothing more than a money-grabbing institution that fails to protect its customers. (I would like to give them a zero rating)

Recently, I noticed an unauthorized deduction in my account for Uber, and to make matters worse, FNB had the audacity to charge me R150 on top of it! How is that even acceptable?

Now, a service provider has deducted more than their usual amount without authorization. FNB can clearly see this was an unusual transaction, yet they did nothing to stop it or protect me. And they charged me for the failed transaction. What is the point of paying exorbitant banking fees if our money isn’t safe?

This level of incompetence is disgusting. Instead of safeguarding their clients, FNB seems to be finding new ways to rip us off. Enough is enough! I demand action and accountability.

FNB, your service is disgraceful, and I will not hesitate to share this experience with others. Step up or lose more loyal clients like me!

FNB’s Shocking Service – Where is the ‘How Can We Help You?’ Commitment?

As a long standing FNB client with a business generating over R150 million annually, I am beyond disappointed by the shocking service we’ve received. Our relationship manager, Braam Castelyn, has been unresponsive since my follow-up email on 16 September 2024, despite the urgency of our business account issue and the mention of considering other banking options.

FNB markets itself with the slogan ‘How Can We Help You?’—yet in practice, it seems the only help we’re receiving is silence. Perhaps FNB is hoping this problem will just disappear, or that we will quietly change banks, relieving them of the responsibility to deliver the service South African businesses deserve.

If this is how FNB treats a high-turnover business, what does this mean for smaller businesses counting on their support? South African companies need a reliable banking partner, not one that fails to respond when it matters most.

To other business owners or individuals who have experienced similar frustrations, please join this post and share your stories. It’s time we hold FNB accountable for the service they advertise but don’t deliver.

Stay Away from FNB/RMB as This bank and all its lies will financially be your Financial Downfall! I wish someone warned me.

This is the absolute worst nightmare of a bank you can imagine, Im not sure whether it might just be aimed at me, but ive been trying to increase my fusion overdraft limit from R1k to 2k or 3k now for 6 months, Fnb simply directly refuses to even speak to me, and they say i should go through my private banker, who on averages, if im lucky enough to actually even get a response, at times take days to respond to me, i can literally message and beg him to see whether he can help me, and ultimately, Its totally and completely way far beyond you would even begin to think being possible, USELESS. This Bank (FNB And RMB) is totally useless, and that is what happenes, if you push the digital concept too far. It does not matter how much you would possibly earn, this bank, will disadvantage you, even though it will promise you the moon and the stars, it all a bunch of lies.

I think it really doesn't matter what service you get all round; we have to consider the next or following person in consulting you at the best they can or will in whatever it takes. The more positive we treat each other the more excellent service will become to your satisfaction.

Don't use FNB bank

If I'm using my bank card I'm paying double for the transaction. I phoned FNB and they can't help me with my query. Don't use FNB bank they are stealing your money.

FNB must fall and pay their customers money back and close their doors.

Extremely unprofessional service from…

Extremely unprofessional service from agents who just drop the call mid sentence whilst explaining a query. Secure chat - useless, secure call useless, FNB - useless. Their service agents are completely incompetent with even the most basic issues. Agents on secure chat take more than 10 minutes just to reply and after an hour one is still stranded with the same problem without anything being resolved and you have to start all over again because you get kicked out if you don't respond in 2 minutes. Try calling them - the agents don't even bother an hang up. Time to go to another bank after being with them for over 10 years.

FNB is ok as a day to day bank

FNB is ok as a day to day bank. Most of the time I have no issues.

However whenever I have to go into a branch my stomach turns.

FNB Sandton is slow, unfriendly and the worst.

If FNB was a completely online bank and there was no reason to go to a branch I’d be happy.

I mean I just needed to fetch a new card after an upgrade which they pushed me on for months. Finally gave in and thought because it’s an upgrade the service would be awesome cuz it’s in their interest to look after loyal customers.

I just had to fetch a card. Should take 1 minute max. Sat for 30 minutes. Absolutely awful.

Pray you never have to visit an FNB branch.

Worst South African bank!

FNB is hands down the worst South African bank a person could use. DO NOT USE FNB! I am currently in London. FNB decided to put a fraud block on my account five days ago. There has been no attempt of fraud and my account has not been implicated in any fraud.

The the last five day I have been stuck in London with no access to funds and haven’t been able to leave the house. I get no response from FNB and the only way I can contact them is by phone call (which obviously costs a fortune outside of South Africa).

I have never dealt with a company so useless in my life!

No words, capatilist corporation at it's finest

Quite a long story but I will keep it brief as possible.

Opened my account with them in 2008. Was a client of theirs for little over a decade. Ended my accounts with them in 2019.

Had a cheque account. a Credit Card Facility and a Revolving Loan with them. End of the story fell on harder times financially so eventually had to arrange to pay credit card and revolving loan off.

One payment was late for credit card by month 3 I was handed over to Brooks & Luit. When I phoned FNB I was told "it's out of our hands, nothing we can do" But when Brooks & Luit phones it's always on "Behalf of FNB" out your hands hey?

I think the correct term actually is "sold my debt" to a debt collector. Which according to credit law is illegal btw.... but just like everything else in SA corruption and fraud is the order of the day. We the citizens are just collateral damage.

Anycase like the naive sucker I was I still paid my agreed payment every month for 2.5 years. Fast forward by 2020 just before pandemic according to me the R24k owing on credit card should now be R12k.

Go to FNB, the account I was given was an FNB account to pay my agreed installment I. Low and behold, zero records for previous two years of payments!!!! Only from 2020 Jan to March, even the manager at the branch remarked something "untoward" going on with this account.

2021 August during pandemic. I get slapped with a summons from Brooks & Luit. For R34,000 so an additional R10k plus no indication of payments made for over two years deducted. "Oh but the summons states they don't have actual documents to prove I owe this!!

As for the cheque account that same year I had to email FNB to request closure. As the fees have run up to R6k..... For a dormant account. Normally by law a bank should close an account within 3 months if it's dormant and not being used.

Not FNB, we are big boitjies mos. We can do what we like.

The snotty agent from FNB informed they closed it "as a favour"
10/10 doing your jobs and keeping your admin in order is a favour clients pay for.

Now since 2019 - 2021 the revolving loan was dormant, zero communication ect.... So the debt prescribed. By credit law debt prescribes in 3 years. No once again not for us FNB, you hand me after prescription over to DB Associates whatever.....

With an additional R40k slapped to original loan amount. Dit Gaan Lekker ne? Oh and sneakily FNB also managed to get a court order for "prescribed" debt and I still get hassled a decade later. The judge probably deep in FNB's back pocket along with debt collectors. Not only was my credit record messed up.

Now that they removed these two accounts on my credit record as a final #** you. FNB managed to put me under "debt review" as currently stated on my credit record.

So ten years for FNB is not enough to screw you over, no they will try your entire lifetime.

You were warned reading this. Don't think they won't hesitate to do the same to you.

Forex help(less) line

Although in branch service is excellent, you NEVER want to be in a position where you have to phone the forex division. We have been holding on for 20 min with the same message on repeat every 15 seconds.

Profile problem…

My sister who had a problem with her bank profile and card I took her to your branch in Pinelands Cape Town. She was in a wheelchair after having surgery. I would just like to commend the consultant that helped her (Fatima) although it took a while due to the profile had been blocked by the fraud department. She was extremely professional and very patient. Well done FNB excellent service

I have had a very bad experience with First National Bank south Africa

I have had a very bad experience with First National Bank in South Africa. I was ****med out of R430,000 and I had a call from a girl on Monday saying she was from FNB and it looked like an FNB number and when I contacted Lebohang she was busy looking into it when the girl I was talking to got on the phone and told me to stop talking to this woman that she is busy with everything I’ve had very little cooperation from FNB. They say they still investigating everything and I also asked about the interest on the money and I was told sorry you’ve lost that as well and I am not happy about it. These FNB people are a total disgrace. You can’t get hold of the CEO who is Mr. J Celliers you get put through all the time to call center who actually don’t do anything other than tell you it’s all in progress. I’ve been told by friends close your account at FNB. They are a noun for all this type of problem and move your money somewhere else more reliable, I have always had the pleasure of talking to the CEO of Nedbank and the CEO of Absa so why should FNB be any different but they are totally useless and they cannot get anything right and I did a spreadsheet of all the money and I see there is money missing now. What is FNB gonna do about that they going to just ignore it like they doing to me about the 400,000 which we believe is either an inside job at FNB or an inside job at Woolworths where all the money went out, I haven’t heard from the CEO of Woolworths. I’m waiting for their response.

We don't care for you or your problem we created.

FNB bank is no better than a common thief. They will not compromise, make an exception or take any ownership of bank error, (it happens). You the customer are always at fault. I somehow defaulted on my Credit Card which was set on a monthly full payment Auto Debit. I did not change it, and this is not the first time it has happened. They also refused to waiver the fee's on this account or help "freeze it" despite it being 2 years old, unused and I did not have a single active credit card issued. (I am travelling abroad). They did however at some stage, block the entire account as it was deemed a delinquent account, but still took the monthly debits. I asked on calls, emails and chats for any form of assistance. All I got was you are in arrears, pay up.

I write because I am furious at this poor customer service and crappy treatment. I have banked 15yrs with this bank and aside from the usual daily transactions, I purchased a home through FNB as well. That is a lot of money earned by FNB bank in interest, fees etc. My loyalty counts for nothing, I am an ATM as you are to this uncompromising, uncaring theft of a bank. DO NOT BANK HERE if you expect any fair customer care.

Pathetic service in store FNB Sea Point

12.07.24
14h02- Arrive FNB SP given a Collect queue ticket #250 which states 5 mins approximate waiting time
14h03 screen states Collect ticket 249 is being attended to. There are 4 clients in the bank.
14H25 a granny with her grandchild walk in to exchange R75 in coppers for notes.
14h30 I speak to the male gentlemen at the front of FNB and he discounts my query that I have had to wait, and disregards my query with no interest at all.
14h35 granny and grandchild are attended to and leave FNB happy as can be.
14h40 - now I am in tears - frustrated that its now 40 minutes and on the screen, ticket #249 is still reflecting
14h50 There are now between 15-20 clients seated in FNB. Again I contact a staff member who eventually assists me. I am here to replace my debit card due to
fraudulent use, at a personal cost of R160 and over an hour of my time. There lace my card due to fraudulent use. FNB does not care, FNB is not interested, to a client who has been loyal to them for over 40 years, so why should I bank with FNB, I leave the store, deciding I am going to close my account for sure. I've had enough!
