Billing & invoicing practices:
For the first four months, I received no invoices at all and eventually had to request one myself. At that point, I was suddenly billed for three months at once. The invoice amount matched what the office manager had stated in an email, but she had also acknowledged that the work should cost less since most of the bookkeeping had already been set up. After that single invoice, I never saw another bill until the day I left their services. This lack of consistency and transparency in billing was extremely unprofessional and troubling.
Communication & quality of service:
Communication was nearly nonexistent from the very beginning. The person supposedly handling my books never reached out about unusual expenses, never asked clarifying questions, and simply made assumptions. After six months, I learned that person was no longer with the firm, and I was told to just send monthly reports to a general mailbox. For a total of eight months, there was no proactive communication at all.
In February 2024, I called to remind them that I needed a 1099 prepared for my business by early April. I followed up multiple times and still received no response. With deadlines approaching, I had no choice but to review the books myself. What I found was alarming: multiple errors, including PayPal income being entered as expenses. It took me two full days to correct the mistakes so I could file my own 1099.
After filing my own taxes, I removed them from QuickBooks. Ironically, only then did I hear from Gilliam and Associates again—and it was to send me a bill.
Overall experience & recommendation:
My experience with Gilliam and Associates was defined by poor communication, inconsistent billing, and serious bookkeeping errors. When you hire a professional firm to manage your financial records, you expect accuracy, responsiveness, and accountability. Instead, I was left with silence, mistakes that cost me valuable time, and a complete lack of professionalism.
I cannot recommend Gilliam and Associates. Business owners deserve a firm that communicates, delivers accurate work, and provides transparent billing. Unfortunately, my experience with this company was the exact opposite.
