Unfair treatment of non-US guides. DO NOT recommend

I collaborated with GPSmyCity for several years, contributing articles and guides. At first, things seemed fine, but as my earnings grew, I noticed that a significant portion of my royalties was being lost to PayPal conversion fees and commissions.

Unlike every other partner I work with, GPSmyCity failed to pay me in USD. Instead, they forced payments to be converted into EUR, which triggered unnecessary fees on my end. I asked them to resolve this by paying me in USD via PayPal (a standard option) OR allowing bank transfers in EUR (which they already provide to US contributors).

Both requests were refused/ignored. This means US contributors get to keep their full earnings, while non-US contributors like me lose money simply because of geography.

When I suggested a simple workaround (sending them a PayPal payment request in USD), they ignored it. Shortly afterward, I was notified that my account had been terminated “pursuant to a company policy change.”

The payout they sent only covered June and July sales. I know I had downloads between 1–11 August 2025, but they never paid those, despite claiming they had settled my “remaining balance” on 9 August 2025.

When I formally requested a full export of my sales history from the start of my collaboration until termination and a copy of the contributor Terms of Service I had agreed to, they simply stopped replying altogether. No answers to emails, reminders, or follow-ups. They ghosted me.

My experience in summary:

Non-US bloggers lose money due to forced PayPal conversion fees

Fair, standard alternatives exist, but GPSmyCity refuses to use them

My account was terminated shortly after I raised concerns, then they ghosted me

Part of my rightful earnings (sales from 1–11 August 2025) was withheld

They refuse to provide transparency by sharing my own sales records or the contract I agreed to

Even if you're in the US, avoid this company that dismisses concerns with a sad emoji or simply ignores and closes your account when you raise a problem. That's not professional, that's not even legal in some cases.

Based on my experience, I cannot recommend GPSmyCity to other bloggers, especially if you are based outside the US. Expect to lose money and struggle with transparency if you choose to work with them.

I use this app wherever I go

I use this app wherever I go. It is such a great way to make sure you get all the major landmarks and some smaller cultural nuggets too. Great for rediscovering a city you know well and for exploring new places. I don't bother with the GPS function as I think that is paid so I just download the routes. The information provided for each landmark is clearly written by someone who has been there. I tell everyone about this app.
