We had an amazing day on The Wall with our guide Luis. Communication and instructions before the hike were very clear, and we were picked-up punctually from our hotel. Luis gave us lots of information about The Wall and China more generally. We did the “Peak of Great Wall Challenge Hiking” and it was pretty strenuous - but that only added to the adventure. The views were incredible. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this trip (and Luis) to anyone who is active and enjoys the outdoors. Thanks for an amazing day….!

Very professional team who made our trip to the Great Wall unforgettable! We hiked from Jiankou (not restored) to Mutianyu (restored) with Dewit, our guide. Our favorite part was by far Jiankou, which was beautiful and with very few people (only a couple of hikers), but as it was our first time on the Wall, it was nice to discover Mutianyu as well. Reservation was super easy and everything went smoothly: the pickup at our hotel on time, the drive, the hike, the restaurant (delicious food!) and the drive back to our hotel. Thanks again to Dewit and the Great Wall Hiking team! Would recommend 100%

Hiking the Great Wall with Great Wall Hiking was the highlight of our trip to China.

We did a 3 day private guided hike. 2 days were on unrestored sections of the wall, 1 day was a restored section at Jinshanling. The first day we didn't see anyone else at all on the hike! Walking in the footsteps of hundreds of years of history was amazing and humbling.

Everything was well organised, and we had an incredible experience. Woody was a great guide. We really appreciated the time he spent with us, his knowledge, and the effort he put in to make the hike so memorable.

We were three relatively fit 50yo's and the hike was well suited for us. There is a fair amount of hiking on undulating terrain, high steps and sometimes a little slippery on down slopes.

The accommodation in the guest house at Jinshanling was excellent.

I had an absolutely amazing hiking tour to the Jinshanling Great Wall with Jenny! He is an outstanding guide who shared fascinating information about the Wall, making the hike truly educational. His pacing was perfect for the terrain, and he took great care of everyone’s safety and well-being. The atmosphere was fantastic throughout the day. To top it all off, we had a delicious lunch at the end of the tour. This experience is simply highly recommended – don't miss out if you're in the area! Thank you, Jenny!

Louis was an absolutely amazing guide on the Great Wall of China, making the experience one of the best of our lives. He was incredibly knowledgeable, sharing fascinating stories and historical details that brought the Wall to life. His attention to detail and care for us two made the whole trip smooth and enjoyable. Camping was very cold, but thanks to his guidance, it was completely worth it and turned into a memorable adventure. The food at the farmhouse was exceptionally good, and the locals were so friendly, adding even more charm to the experience. Overall, Louis made the trip unforgettable, and we can’t recommend him and this tour highly enough!

We did the 9-day private hiking. The booking process was very simple although we had to prompt a few times for information, but don't worry Gary and his team do get back to you. Full Paypal payment upfront can be a bit nerve-racking in a foreign country, but again this was a safe transaction and we got our full money's worth. Hotels were of good 2-3 star and clean for the most part - the local stay was lovely albeit basic. Set your experience ahead of time and you'll slip into the rhythm in no time. Food, well we can't say enough! We ate to our hearts content, and the food was fantastic. The hike is challenging with some parts of the wall taken over by vegetation, with sheer drops of either side in certain areas, allot of uneven steps and ups and downs and some scrambling for those with knee issues. 6 mi or 10 kms don't seem long, but the constant ascent and decent does take a bit out of you. Bring 2 good poles and do train for the longer hikes. We traveled in October/November - so perfect temperature for those liking it a bit colder (and less crowds). Bring cash, download WeChat - easier to communicate with the team. We absolutely loved our trip, the people, the food, the sheer grandeur and importance of this monument to humanity. Would do it again - Thanks to the team at Great Wall Hiking, Gary and Jenny as well as our fearless driver Bing and Quing-Ming-Yuan-Song ... dynasty expert and hiking guide Oliver who shared so much with us over 9 days.

Sapevo che l'escursione alla Grande Muraglia sarebbe stato uno degli highlights del mio viaggio in Cina ma non immaginavo che questa esperienza sarebbe stata così TANTO emozionante.
Ho organizzato tutto prima della partenza con Great Wall Hiking e il loro servizio è stato perfetto! Il nostro driver si ha accompagnati all'ingresso a Jinshanling e ci è venuto a prendere nel punto concordato al termine del percorso, dandoci una serie di consigli utili sul percorso.
Vedere l'alba sorgere sulla Muraglia è stato emozionante e il fatto che questa sezione sia decisamente meno frequentata rispetto ad altre sezioni più note e più vicine a Pechino, ci ha permesso di godercela spesso in solitaria! Spettacolare.

We booked the hike on the Jinshanling section with Great Wall Hiking and we totally recommend it. There were basically no people, and the scenery left us speechless. Our tour was Luis and he was a great guide, very informative and prepared, he could explain the history very well and answer all our questions. He also provided us with free walking sticks and the place we went for lunch was very good.

Our private day tour at the Great Wall with Woody was the highlight of our entire trip. We learned so much about China’s history and culture and enjoyed the beauty from on top of Mutianyu. Woody is an extremely knowledgeable tour guide and a pleasure to be with.

Before our tour, Great Wall Hiking promptly answered all our questions and arranged for Woody to pick us up at our hotel. My husband and I highly recommend this tour especially with Woody.

My mom, son, and I did the Glory of Great Wall Hiking Tour with Dewit and LOVED it. We highly recommend this company, hike, and tour guide. Dewit spoke English well and was extremely knowledgable. We enjoyed his history lessons regarding the Wall and his guidance while there. Even the restaurant he took us to for lunch was amazing.

The experience was fantastic, thanks to our guide, John, who was always helpful and kind. He shared many interesting facts about Chinese history.
Seeing both the sunset and sunrise on the Great Wall was a highlight of the trip. Sleeping by the wall was the perfect ending to an amazing day.

We went in August 2023 and had a wonderful experience with Gary. Obviously the Great Wall was magnificent but it wouldn't have been the same without our guide: funny, knowledgeable and supportive.

We had a fantastic day hiking the great wall with Great Wall Hiking. Gary was very knowledgeable about the history of the wall and explained its origins to us. The hike we did was a great mix of the 'wild' wall and a better preserved section. It was definitely strenuous in the heat, but we could take it at our own pace, with lots of breaks, and the views were definitely worth it! Both Gary and our driver were very friendly, and we really enjoyed the day - thank you!

GreatWallHiking arranged a driver who dropped me off at the Great Wall and picked me up the next morning at another point. Also they arranged a tent that I could rent in the middle of the hike. It was an amazing experience. Thank you!

I was in China recently for work and took a once in a lifetime opportunity to hike the Great Wall! I was travelling by myself and wanted to see the wild section of the wall as well the restored section but knew it would not be safe to go to the wild section alone. I hired a guide from Great Wall hiking after doing a little research. I don't know what I expected but my 5 hour hike with my guide Jason was a wonderful experience. I felt safe and secure in Jason's knowledge of the terrain and regione. He was experienced, patient, and gave in depth context throughout our hike about the building of the wall, history, and broader Chinese culture. He was curious, asked me questions and made sure to tailor the trip to my interests and physical abilities. I didn't feel I was on a traditional "tour" which is important to me, did not feel pressured at any time or stuck in any side trips to buy souvenirs etc. If you are going to the wild section, or any section of the wall, I strongly encourage you to hire a knowledgeable guide such as the ones Great Wall hiking provide. Cannot recommend them enough!

Great way to experience the Great Wall. A full day out (and my legs are still sore) but it was really special to be away from the crowds, seeing both restored and unrestored sections of the wall. I was on a private tour so I could really go at my own pace and the guide did an excellent job of giving my options if I wanted to end a bit early or continue a bit farther. So glad I opted for this experience, rather than a rushed and crowded visit to a more touristed (and touristy) section.

Great Wall Hiking enabled my wife and me to have the adventure of a lifetime, hiking the wild Great Wall of China last month. The service we received was impeccable - administrator Kathy and guide Peter planned everything meticulously. Everything was included, from the hike itself, to hiking poles to help us navigate the snow, to awesome meals and drinks. And all the way, without overdoing it, Peter was able to share fascinating history and current affairs information in an easy and accessible way. He also took fabulous photos and presented us with a memory stick full of gorgeous shots at the end of the two day hike.
