Added colour and focus to decking
I’ve rated 5 because these plant boxes that were given to me by my husband, have given great focus to the side of our decking hiding an old fence, that our neighbour wasn’t keen to let us paint.
The construction of the boxes is sound and once I had chosen my plants, which was great fun, was simple to plant up and erect - I choose heuchera because I wanted year round colour and variety of leave shapes, plus I simply love the names Forever Purple, Apple Crisp, Lime Marmalade etc However according to some plants should be split in spring so it was risky doing the planting in Mid/late Summer. However I chose robust plants that had lots of stems not just one central stem. And they are starting to grow just before our early Autumm has kicked in in the UK
The watering system is genius. Makes life easy. At a glance you can see if watering is needed, plus the height of the boxes makes them accessible for weeding purposes.
I am however wondering when I will need to nourish the soil? Any advice welcome.

I ordered 20 planters at the Chelsea flower show some years ago, but sadly the neighbour changed his mind about removing the hedge. So now 2 years later the neighbour and hedge are gone and there is a new lovely fence. I love the impact so much that I would happily get 20 or even 40 more!!! (If money was no object)

I would love to say easy to install - but whilst they were fairly straight forward to put together, we had to build a structure to safely out these up at the level we wanted as they can’t screw directly into a fence like the one we have. I would think the weight of the planted up boxes would be too much for the fence.

I have given 4 stars as we do find the watering system is not as good as we had hoped. The little yellow arrow doesn’t float up to full despite adding a lot of water, some say full, some stay on empty. There is no real way of being sure on whether there is enough water. The water drained fairly well through to other planters below it, and also straight out of the bottom so we started to assume they must all be full. I just choose to water across each one on top of into the vessel designed for watering. The plants seem to at this point all be thriving and I’ve not had to water that regularly as the soil feels damp to touch for a few days.

There isn’t a huge amount of space for spoil - so topping up soil yearly and feeding regularly will be necessary for the evergreen/ perennials I have planted. And not sure about how I’ll manage when adding new annuals next year - but I’ll cross that bridge then. For now we are all loving the beautiful living wall.

Need screws etc & be able to use a drill to fix in place but that was stated in the instructions.
