Firstly, I've waited over a month to post this review. I wanted to "road test" my system before committing to one.
I was looking to install solar panels and upgrade my heating from an ageing gas boiler to an energy-efficient air source heat pump. I had already purchased a battery separately.
This was going to be an expensive endeavour, so I did my homework. I created floor plans, carried out heat-loss calculations and solar yield calculations, and worked out which equipment I thought would be best suited to the setup I wanted. I also identified any additional work that would be required. Based on this, I put together a project manifest that detailed exactly which main components I was looking for, what work would be necessary, and what additional knock-on work might be required.
For example, removing the gas boiler meant less reliance on gas, so I wanted to remove the gas fire in the living room and the gas hob in the kitchen. This, in turn, meant I would need a new cable run from the consumer unit to the kitchen and the installation of an induction hob. Because I wanted uninterrupted power, it also meant a new consumer unit, rewiring, and other associated work.
All of this was included in the project manifest.
I then tendered the project out to five different companies: two additional local companies and two national providers.
Of these five companies, only one of the national firms carried out a site visit, and even then they only quoted for the heat pump. Despite multiple follow-ups, I never received a solar quote. Another company quoted for the heat pump without conducting a site visit and wanted £150 up front simply to visit the property. One local company quoted for the installations but not the additional work and was several thousand pounds more expensive than the others. The other local company failed to respond until I chased them for a third time, at which point they said they could see me in August (I was chasing them in March).
Only Simon Annears responded promptly. Annears was also the only company to conduct a truly thorough site visit, sending both a technical director and an electrical specialist.
They then delivered a comprehensive quote for both systems, along with detailed proposals covering components, expected performance, and project timelines.
After a little back and forth to ensure everything was included, we agreed a price and booked an installation date. This was achieved within around three to four weeks of agreeing the scope of work. As for the price, they turned out to be the most competitive quote when comparing the system components being supplied, which was a very pleasant surprise.
Once the installation was booked, their communication was excellent. They kept me informed of delivery schedules and provided clear information on when to expect the scaffolders, when the team would be on site, and when work would begin.
All timelines were met exactly as promised. At no point was I left waiting around.
When the installation began, they sent an entire crew to site. At one point, there were seven members of staff working on different parts of the project simultaneously: some on the roof, some handling the electrical work, and others taking care of the plumbing.
All of the tradespeople were polite, professional, and efficient.
The work was completed on time, and I even requested an additional radiator replacement partway through the installation. This was carried out the very next day, and the cost was very reasonable.
As far as I can tell, all work has been completed to a very high standard. The cabling is neat, well secured, and routed in the most efficient manner possible. Wherever feasible, wiring and pipework have been concealed, so there are no unsightly cables or exposed pipes.
I can't fully comment on the heating system yet, but our hot water has never been better.
The solar panels look fantastic and are performing extremely well.
As for the additional work, my induction hob has been installed and looks great, and the old gas fire has been removed, which has also transformed the room.
Nothing seemed to be too much trouble for anyone involved.
Would I recommend them? Absolutely — 100%.
Am I being paid to write this review? Absolutely not. Quite the opposite. I've parted with a substantial amount of my own money and genuinely feel that I've received excellent value for it.
If my experience is anything to go by, then this is an outstanding company.

Poor post-boiler service. After our boiler was serviced, we were told that two components needed replacing. We then waited over a month for a follow-up quote, but nothing was sent.

I have since emailed three times and still haven’t received a response. It’s now been weeks since the service, and we are no closer to getting the issue fixed. I even asked them to simply confirm the names of the two parts needed so I could arrange it myself, but they haven’t provided that either.

I’m on their monthly payment plan, which is supposed to offer some level of priority service, but this clearly hasn’t been the case. Very disappointing experience and poor communication throughout.

The Valliant Air Source pumpe system was installed by by Annear’s in Spring this year. Now we have entered its first Winter test I am more than happy with it’s performance making our four bed stone barn warm and comfortable in the colder days, and helping to eliminate damp isses. Installation was smooth with a polite and efficient team and a couple of minor malfunctions have been sorted out quickly by an engineer’s visit just a couple of hours after phoning the ‘chirpy’ receptionist. I am more than peased with the system and service.

Terrible company, awful communication, the reception lady is rude and never forwards your phone calls, crazy prices for simple plumbing, would not recommend.

We had an intermittent fault with our boiler in as much it would rarely fire up, unless the engineer was on site when it would perform flawlessly. A service failed to cure the problem. Annears persisted with their support, accepted the videos we sent as ways to diagnose the fault. When the engineer turned up to fit the part, the boiler revealed its fault. It was apparent then that the fault was something else and needed a different part to the one they had suspected from the video. Within 24hrs of that we were sorted. Extremely grateful for their understanding, patience and tenacity in getting it sorted.

Great service…was there on time .. really friendly guy .

Not very impressed. He serviced the boiler but didn't check the central heating or the radiators or the flue, all of which has happened with every previous service going back years but never used this firm for a service before. Also I don't receive a bill until months later which isn't helpful when trying to budget.

Rapid and efficient response. Plumbing engineer was punctual, polite and a good communicator as explained process throughout visit. Resolved problem on the day. Very satisfied.

I phoned 8am stating the water was boiling with steam coming from taps ,towel rail untouchable.
9-15am an engineer arrived problem solved.

Neil arrived on time, was very efficient and carefully explained the issues arising from the service.

I don't normally write reviews but the engineer, who I think was called Neil (he did say, it's my memory!) was exceptional. Did a full check on the boiler and also worked through a checklist with things like smoke detector dates and Co2 detector. Hecreplaced the Co2 detector immediately, at my request, as he had one handy. I would ask for Neil again when booking again next year as personable, efficient and explained everything, clearly knowing his stuff. Thank you.
