Disappointment after disappointment.
Disappointment after disappointment.
So, we needed a 4x4 for our Xmas vacation and rented a Mazda BT50 from Hertz Ghana for 6 days.
Positives:
Very friendly front desk staff.
Negatives:
1; The car was from 2016, had done nearly 50,000 kilometers and was dirty both inside and outside when given to us.
2; The car came with a slow puncture. A couple of days into the rental period, this became obvious as the tire very slowly deflated. I pulled out the spare tire which was turned out to be completely flat and had a major gash in the side of it, making it impossible to use. Ended up having to use the slow puncture, by simply adding air and keeping and eye on it.
3; The original load cover was not available so Hertz issued us with a hard cover that didn't fit at all and therefore couldn't be used. When returning the hard cover to Hertz using our own car, the Hertz people lifting it out of our car took zero care (despite several times asking them to be careful) and made two proper scratches in the rear bumper of our brand new car (125 kilometers on the clock).
4. The car, even with proper pressure in all four tires, pulled strongly to the right, forcing us to counter steer to keep it in a straight line. When looking for the jack and lifting the rear seat, lots of broken glass could be seen. It was quite obvious that the car had had a very hard life and had not been taken good care of.
5; Pointing out all of these issues to Hertz on our return, the best they could come up with was offering us an apology and a 30% discount on the next rental... the NEXT rental! Talk about adding insult to injury. Why would we return after all this?
Anyways, if you are in Accra and looking to rent a car, unless you want to pay a premium price and like worn out, broken and dirty cars with useless spare tires, then I strongly suggest that you give Hertz a wide berth.
