Vague gas policy results in charges
I rented a car in Rapid City, SD. Upon pick up, I had a conversation with the worker at the desk about how I could return the car with a low tank of gas to the airport because the gas was generally cheaper than where I was traveling. I replied that it was a nice offer. Generally, it’s emphasized to try and return with roughly the same amount. Never once was I directly asked if I was choosing to return it with a low tank; this presented as a conversation and since I’ve ALWAYS returned rental at a full tank, it just didn’t even cross my mind. Gas turned out to be cheaper in some of the areas we travelled to, so I ended up returning it with a full tank. I was charged as though I did return it with a low tank. I have been told that there is nothing I could do because I chose the option to fill up at the airport. That is simply not true as I was never directly asked. This is such an easy remedy where the employees need to make it very clear that you are choosing one option, instead of having a casual conversation, offering it.
