DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!
DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!
We would urge you not to waste your money! We booked the penthouse at the PYR Hotel, it cost us nearly £1300 for one week! We thought it would be a fantastic treat to have some luxury, HOW WRONG WE WERE!!
The first thing we noticed was the laminated flooring in the corridor as we got out of the lift on the 10th floor. The laminate was lifting in many places and desperately needs replacing. On arrival at the ‘Penthouse’ it was not the standard we had expected! Firstly, we couldn’t get the lights on, we looked for a slot to insert our key but none to be found, there was a meter on the wall where we turned the switch on and off but still made no difference. We then tried to get out of the door to the roof terrace but it would not open. There was some tape in the ceiling of the bathroom covering what looked like a hole. The furniture was very old, worn and shabby. The doors of the ‘kitchen’ were falling off. The tiled flooring was cracked. Having tried everything we could think of to get the electric on we tried to phone reception to find that the phone did not work either so in the end my husband trekked back to reception to inform them of our findings. Within 15 minutes 2 maintenance men came to our room and started to fix the kitchen cupboards, they turned the electric on by flicking an ordinary looking light switch at the top of the door, the switch was not labelled in any way to indicate it was the main electric switch for the apartment! They also replaced the faulty phone with a new one. They re-affixed the kitchen doors. They looked at the door to the roof terrace and couldn’t open it either so had to return later with some oil which they did and eventually got it open. Up on the roof terrace is a small plunge pool and a very tatty, brittle table and 4 chairs, and 4 sunbeds which had seen better days. There was no shade of any kind, not even an umbrella, looking over the wall at the hotel pool below was a very different story, nice grassy area with plenty of umbrella’s etc., so why none up here where we’ve paid all this extra money??? The two single beds were cheap metal bed bases with a decent mattress with another memory foam mattress on top but every time you turned over each went their own way and the base moved noisily as it had wheels on.
Some of the apartments in this hotel are owned privately and the hotel has no jurisdiction over when the owners of such properties have works done. The whole week we put up with workmen in the apartment below knocking off the tiles of the apartment and re-tiling, Not only did this wake us up every morning we had to put up with the constant tapping and banging whilst we were sat on the balcony or in the apartment. The balcony is facing North East so only gets the sun in the morning, not bad though as this makes the bedroom cooler for sleeping, plus you have the roof terrace if you want to sunbathe. The view is a side view of the sea and the port. There are many other hotels which will give you a better view for far less money.
The location of this hotel is very good and the only reason we have given it one star, it’s right on the port and close to many good bars and restaurants.
