I remember The Independent being full of great journalism across the board in the 1990s. Now, the online-only version seems to be run in the same way as all the struggling local news Reach sites - nonsense click-bait headlines leading you to badly-written garbage. What a shame.

The review on Rod Stewart at Glastonbury was so politically motivated and biased it shouldn't have been printed. The reviewer needs reviewing then sacking.

They utilize "click bait", e.g., headlining and showing an "herb" that reverses Alzheimer's; but upon reading the article, only promotes some program, with no mention of any herb whatsoever. Pathetic.

Narrative driven propaganda, following the rest of the main stream media with it's dishonesty and disingenuousness.

They lure you in with a £1 for six months offer and then DO NOT warn you then they take the renewal payment six months later. Then they take £99 from you.

AVOID.

Shame really. Was one of my main news sources for around the last decade but now i cant use their website without selling my data or giving them money.

This seems to be happening with all established media but i thought the independent better than that. This kinda crap needs to stop. Its locking education behind a paywall and its a joke

Disgraceful publication that churns out plenty of Western media that is misleading or sensational.

The Independent Newspaper is without doubt, the most independent broadsheet, it's what it says and always has been

A newspaper, where journalists do not need to be deregratory, or putting down minorities to make themselves feel better (such as Telegraph, Sun, Express - extreme right newspapers)

I note the number of reviews which complain about having to pay for news. I wonder do they ever think where the money comes from to pay the wages of the journalists, content providers and IT people who maintain the online platform. Actually, nobody is obliged to read it or even access it at any point.

The constant weather "Polar Vortex" "Snow Bombs" and God knows how many inches of snow per hour have been running in my google feed for 4 months now. It's nothing but fear headlines and click bait. Get over yourselves man.

Promoting kwiff casino, disgusting!!! , is there not enough to sort out with the gambling in this country ?

Compared with the right wing rubbish regurgitated on a daily basis by the Telegraph, Mail, Sun, Express et al. this is a positive beacon of balance (though with a peculiar blindspot in its support for the Farmers' campaign against inheritance tax changes (I guess the proprietor has a few 1000 acres somewhere....)).
If you're not a reader give it a try you might learn something.

Yet another company who does not take your privacy serious unless you pay of course. Pay to remove cookies is yet another scumbag move by these companies, where have thier morals gone...

Annoying obtrusive adverts that take up your whole screen and are not friendly to certain disabilities, making the site impossible to use for them.

The kind of websites that rely on that type of advertising tend to be very low quality and websites of disrepute.

Publishing narratives that divide and generate social hate. This outlet are solely responsible for the perpetual cycle of misery engulfing the UK currently

I signed up for a 6 month trial for £1 (switching to £99 per year after that). I haven't accessed it for months and had forgotten that I signed up. It would have been nice if I'd been emailed a warning that this payment was going to be taken (other companies do that !!)
I have now cancelled the paypal authorisation. I contacted Indepenent Newspapers as soon as I realised the payment had been taken (within an hour of seeing the email from Paypal) and they are refusing to refund. They have given me £50 refund.

I have been directed to read the terms and conditions of the trial. It mentions that it will automatically renew (at the price of £99) but does not mention that no advanced warning will be given when it is about to renew.

*UPDATE* They refunded me £50 leaving £49 owing. When I pointed Consumer Rights Act 2015. "This practice (giving no notice that a payment is about to be taken) deprives
consumers of their right to make an informed decision about continuing with the subscription and creates a significant
imbalance in the parties' rights and obligations to the detriment of the consumer." and issuing a letter before legal action they refunded remaining £49.

I would urge anyone in similar situation to quote the Consumer Rights Act 2015 which makes it illegal for any T&C which is weighted against the consumer.
