Be carefull about the prices on the website, they're confusing and the customer services is not helping !

In response to this review, Macs Adventure changed their mind and refunded my deposit. I am grateful for this change.

Do not use this company. They have a very strict cancellation policy: once you give them a deposit, there is no refund. If you cancel, they give you the option of applying the deposit (less a $150 PER PERSON fee) to a future trip, or just forfeiting the refund. We deposited $668 for a couple, and then 3 days later we realized we could not do this trip and wrote to cancel. MACS refused a refund of our deposit, and offered to apply $66 toward a future trip. So customer-unfriendly. They had not lost any money in those three days. They wrote me that the reason they are refusing a refund is "We have to maintain very strict cancellation terms since we have had so many cancellations recently. We cannot make any exceptions."
No wonder.
Do not use this company

This was my 4th walking holiday with Macs Adventures. While accommodation quality has been variable at times, overall I was happy to use them again for the Hadrian's Wall trek. What an incredible disappointment.

I appreciate it can be difficult to find accommodation close to the trail, but a combination of no instructions and no viable options in one case other than walking the additional 12 kilometres (making the strenous rated day 36 kilometres long) quite unreasonable.

On another day no instructions!!! Fortunately, thanks to Google, we figured out a bus. We highlighted this to Macs post-completion:
'You finished our route in Brampton and put our accommodation in Carlisle with zero instructions on what to do. You then have us backtrack to Haytongate, again zero instructions, and have us walk 46 km of a “strenuous” rated route to our next accommodation (through Carlisle after 16km). Even being generous and getting us to the starting point at 9am we would be walking non stop till approximately 10pm. VERY poor organisation by you and deeply disappointed.'

Their response:
'I have had a chance to look at this and chat with my product manager on this, I can see this was an error on our part here and I am so sorry about this, I can understand how frustrating this must have been and certainly not the experience we wish for you.

I do hope despite this you had a good time on your trip with us.'

That is the sum total of their response. Already looking at alternatives for our next trek.

The outlander tour was a good itinerary, however the standard of accommodation was poor. Only one of their accommodation was excellent the myrtle bank guest house. Even though when I booked I tried to upgrade accommodation but was told unable to. Even though I offered to pay more

Absolutely brilliant company. Easy booking process, loads of clear information provided about what was included, what needed to be done and the walk itself. Looked into the price of booking accommodation and baggage transfer ourselves and not much in it.
The walk itself and all the logistics was seamless: lovely accommodation, bags picked up and dropped with no issue. Would absolutely recommend and will use again.

We have just finished the Camino Trail Sarria to Santiago. We could not fault Mac Adventures as their pre trip support was excellent and informative and their trip notes and accommodation choices were excellent. Bag Transfer was seamless and our request to upgrade on the last night to the Parador Hotel in Santiago (well worth it) was dealt with without any fuss. Thank you for helping to make such a memorable trip for us, we will use you again.

Do not use MACS travel for any trip to Penedes National Park in Portugal. MACS has no experience there, and only acts as a middle-man for Portugal Green Walks, a local tour company. Going through MACS costs more money and gets you a much less responsive and knowledgeable tour company handling your trip details. We should have booked through Portugal Green Walks directly. Our group finally walked away from our deposits with MACS after MACS' lack of knowledge, slow responses to our questions and price gouging caused all of us to lose confidence in MACS. We had visions of being stranded in the middle of a remote part of Portugal with no help from MACS to resolve any of the issues they caused. It sounds like others have had that experience in other places, so we decided it was better to lose our deposits than to move forward with an expensive and disappointing trip. Of course, MACS took no responsibility for their poor trip planning and would not even consider crediting our deposits toward another trip in a location where they have more expertise. A tour company should make trip planning and execution easier, but dealing with MACS has been a frustrating waste of time and money.

As an update: MACS ultimately refunded our deposits, which we appreciate!

The opportunity to walk the West Highland Way is truly a once in a lifetime experience, and I would recommend highly. The route is incredible and the landscapes are breathtaking. This was exactly what I wanted when planning to explore Scotland and it exceeded my expectations.
Make no mistake, however, this is a physically challenging activity and should be carefully considered for those who have any mobility concerns.
Having the proper gear and physical expectations are a must in order to fully enjoy your time hiking. The walk is absolutely doable for those less physically fit, just take more time and include more rest between the more challenging days.

The ability to add on more climbs into the itinerary is possible, but needs careful time management. The plus of having your bags brought from inn to inn sets this experience apart and allows for so much more freedom- I can’t say enough about the baggage service!
Some advice:
I would recommend doing your homework before you set off both in terms of daily elevation and duration details and time planning for arrivals at your next destination. For example, some of the accommodations require specific check-in windows, or a ferry to reach, etc., and this could really impact your daily plan so be sure you are well familiarized with your unique itinerary and accommodations.

I personally encountered an unnecessarily stressful day, because I had to be at a ferry by a specific time to reach my hotel and I would have liked to have had more time to explore some off road hikes which would have been impossible in the timeframe as a result.

My friend and I enjoyed the MACS Camino walk from Sarria to Santiago de Compostella over 6 days. The hotels which we stayed in and the luggage transfers all worked perfectly. It was good value for the price. We had the maps downloaded, but hardly needed them on this very well marked route.
There were two things which could have been improved:
- I received all if the information from MACS, but my friend, despite repeated requests, never received a direct communication. Perhaps it was assumed that we lived in the same place, but we do not.
- some of the hotels along the way were not correctly marked on the downloaded maps. This caused some confusion.

The organisation and luggage transfer were all excellent. The daily distances seemed a little inaccurate and there were some quite short days which made those days drag quite a bit as there was limited sightseeing in the some of the evening stopping points.
Not Macs Adventure fault but some places had limited dinner restaurant options.
The accommodation was never bad but some of it was quite corporate and uninspiring. A few over night stays were in really excellent and engaging hotels and places.

Wonderful scenery. Corsica is just as beautiful as we had been told. The hiking is definitely challenging, and the very rocky terrain adds to the challenge. You want to be in shape for this, and if possible, do it when the weather is a bit on the cooler side. Great accommodations, good food, and lots of helpful people. We loved it!

The hotels chosen were once again subpar. The last hotel was nice, but the food in the prior 3 was just terrible. The first hotel had an angry staff and the food was recycled for the first 3 days. How many times can you eat prosciutto from the same cut? The second hotel, had a nice staff, but the food was just so bad. We were so hungary we went into town and go chips and pizza. The last hotel was luxury but by then we were so over it. If this is supposed to be the VIP way to the camino, it did not do it for me in hotels or food.

We thoroughly enjoyed our walking in Puglia. The walks were gentle and not challenging and were well described. The route map in the App was extremely useful. Accommodation was really good and breakfasts were always delicious especially at Locorotondo at Dimora Graziana Hotel where William took great delight in talking us through each item in the breakfast menu. All freshly prepared and locally sourced!

The setting and organization for the hikes was fabulous. The app worked really well. The accommodations were well located and very comfortable. We were a griup of 4 and we all really enjoyed our adventure. The only issue we had was on account of a very rude hotelier at one of our accommodations.

Our western Sicily walk was a sumptuous adventure well planned and appointed but with enough flexibility to accommodate daily fluctuations. Macs always picks wonderful routes and accommodations.

The whole experience with Macs was wonderful, the staff are really helpful and the trip was so well organised we had a wonderful time and will definitely be booking again.

Well organized, accomodation was excellent & well located, transport between sites was efficient & arrived on time. The ap was good for showing us where to go.
English speaking drivers would have been better for communication & 4 nights in Trapani was too long - 1 day on the Islands would have been enough & an overnight in another village or Palermo would have been better.

The best ever option if you like us travel a lot and want to turn up with your walking boots on and have all the planning and bookings done for you, including luggage transfer. Macs has great communication, is thorough and flexible to personalize your adventure.

Macs Adventure did a great job with our trip. We got to decide our exact dates and they took care of all the specific arrangements. We loved all the hotels, the hiking was fabulous--every day the hike was different. Some days we hiked along wide dirt paths with amazing views of rolling Tuscany hills, other days through orchards and along small roads (more beautiful scenery), another day on trails through some woods and hills and finally, we could see Siena as we approached it. Each day was a fabulous new discovery. The MacsAdventure app was great and following the maps was easy. The additional text made it fool proof. Also, it was helpful to have warnings (barking dogs that were always behind fences). Each hotel was beautiful, with comfortable beds, hot showers or baths and nice views. All were perfect after a long day of hiking. The local partner Via del Sol (not sure of spelling) was great. They were on top of every pick-up and taxi transfer and all the luggage transfers went seamlessly. What more could anyone want? We were very satisfied.

We had a wonderful time on this adventure. We loved the amazing towns we stayed in and the hikes were very beautiful. It was extremely helpful to have all the logistics taken care of and the app communicated all of them well and was easy to use. My one suggestion is that maybe the trip could be one day shorter. To me the last hike was not as beautiful as the first 5 and Pollenca was not on the level of Deia, Valldemossa and the others. Just my opinion! Overall, a great trip and a great way to experience Mallorca
