Macs knows how to plan a holiday
Once again, Macsadventure have provided us with an awesome holiday! Quality of accommodation, luggage transport, itinerary - all of it was so well put together.
Highlights were the places we stayed. The towns we visited and the bikes themselves. So good! One thing to note - we thought we were decent cyclists. This trip showed us we are not! After two days on road bikes we switched to e-bikes and that raised our trip from great to sensational hahah. When we had a flat tyre and when we wanted to reorganise the bikes, Zoe from Macs, was just so helpful on the phone. As was Felipe who fixed out tyre and then returned a couple of days late with our new bikes. Both were our heroes!
One thing for us - Occasionally the offline map was a little lagging in keeping up with where we were. Minor detail that gave us a few wrong turns and a few extra k’s. Otherwise, I highly recommend this trip (and of course, Macsadventure!).
Another wonderful Camino
Another wonderful Camino! Everything was great
The Paradore in Santiago de Compestela was a perfect way to end our hike- amazing hotel.
Thanks again Macs!
Walking the Cotswolds Way
Well, we had too much rain, but that is nature not Macs. The accommodations were great, comfortable with wonderful hosts. We did 10 days of walking and very appropriate for us in our 70's. The distances between the overnight stays was quite perfect, the longest being 24km.
We found in a few places signage could have been better or added to verifying we were on the right path. But overall it was very well done. The booklet and mapping online was very helpful as was the instructions for the walk and accommodations. We enjoyed the spectacular views, but would have enjoyed more if the weather was drier. We would like to thank Macs for the work putting our trip together. It will be a trip we will never forget.
Easy to use downloadable maps
The downloadable maps showing my route on the Fife Coastal Path were super easy to use. I’m not very techy so if I’m saying that then they really must be user friendly!
The places I stayed at were all unique and very good with wonderful breakfasts.
Everything was perfect
Accomodation was perfect, luggage transport well organised, landscape breathtaking.
Three days of great cycling - rest of trip was below average
Macs adventure are a booking agent for this trip, which they reminded me was the case when I phoned for assistance. App was good, the trip is very good, lots of very polluted country side on two days, the other three days were amazing; bike hire company in Italy were okay, only after I said if they didn't fix the bike i would discontinue the trip did they send someone - and they were there within the hour; this is after several follows up and two days of riding a broken bike. Hotel accommodation was basic and quite depressing, often with limited wifi, not centrally located which created additional expense e.g., one so remote it cost an additional 50 EUR in taxis.
Spectacular walking, great organisation
This is a spectacular region of Germany, with wonderful (if sometimes demandingly undulating) walking trails, dramatic landscapes and excellent public transport linking centres. Macs' organisation was as always faultless.
Salve Viatores
Had a great few days walking the best parts of Hadrian's wall path. Everything was well organized. Accommodations were excellent. Distances were easy to cover, the app worked great. Also, taxi services for transfers that were used were prompt. Everything ran smoothly. All in all very enjoyable.
Walking the West Highland Way
We only decided to walk the West Highland Way at short notice in September 2023, a popular time, and so were delighted to be offered a cancellation by Macs Adventure for a self-guided 8-day trip. Although you never actually get to see any of Macs Adventure staff, their communication was so good that you never felt out of touch. The whole trip went off well, particularly as it corresponded with a spell of fine weather, with excellent accommodation, guide book and an app which gave you all the information you needed about the trip. They also offer back-up in the event of a problem which, happily, we didn't need. I can't honestly say I'd heard of this company before but their name resonated with other travellers we met and I'd have no reservation in recommending them.
Everything went according to plan!
Everything went according to plan. Inns were great, the route was well-mapped, and bags arrived as promised.
Memorable Experience
This was our first experience with Mac's Adventure, and it will likely not be our last. We had very smooth hotel checkins, quality of hotels, and baggage handling. The Mac's app is a must-have for when signs are difficult to discern. We did the fastest walk - and it's doable but challenging. I agree with others that the hikes might be longer than reported, but that does not subtract from experience.
Highly recommend taking the Pilgrim's Way barefoot rather than the Causeway to Holy Island. Also recommend a side trip to Dryburgh Abbey on the first day. I have no doubt that the lack of rain made this a much more pleasant experience.
I'd be particularly mindful of finding the right paths coming out of Melrose and Wooler, as that's where I went astray.
Mac's made it easy. Thanks so much!
Ok but mistakes made
First of all I have to say our Macadventure holiday was brilliant. But that’s mainly due to where we were in Italy, not because of Macadventures.
We found the first night our hotel wasn’t booked, although a room was found in a nearby hotel.
Out of four hotels we used, one was great, one ok but two very poor. And we always got the worst rooms in the hotel.
Our prearranged taxi service was ok but a few mistakes made.
The holiday cost over twice the price you would pay in arranging yourself.
Verona to Lake Garda cycle tour
This was our second adventure with Macs, our first being the Danube boat/bike tour last year. We enjoyed it so much, we booked a self-guided bike trip from Verona and finishing at Lake Garda.
The three hotels which we used were very nice and we could not fault them. There was a small issue, in that the Verona hotel did not have adequate bike storage space, after they made alterations to the hotel earlier this year. We ended up storing them overnight in a downstairs storeroom, accessed by a tiny lift. I had to take the bikes down one at a time, stood vertically. The hotel staff were oblivious of any arrangements, so I had to get in touch with Macs to resolve the situation. That said, it was a fantastic hotel and worth the bit of hassle. It looks like they've stopped using this particular hotel, which is situated in the courtyard of Juliet's balcony, but I'd strongly recommend that they continue to use it and find a solution to the bike storage. (Store them at another nearby location perhaps?)
Delivery and collection of the bikes went smoothly, as were the luggage transfers.
You could probably find cheaper alternatives if you fish around, but I know that the accommodations which they arrange will be of a very good standard. Maybe book early, so you get their usual hotels? If you book later, you may end up being put into their second-choice hotels.
The “adventure” is you’re on your own
What a terrible experience on the Camino de Santiago. Our room was not available on our first night. Our transfer never arrived on our day to get to the cathedral. The map distances were completely wrong. We were stranded and reached out to macs and they never responded. They are awful
Poor value for money
Third time with Macs but we won't be going again. We feel we were charged a fairly steep price, and got virtually nothing for it. We literally got a £10 book telling us the route. They organised the luggage transfer - but that's not particularly difficult. And the accommodation was not up to the standard we expected given we paid so much. I mean, sometimes it was a small annex room with barely enough space for a bed. Or a pokey room at the very top of a hotel. And it was too often so far from the route that - after a long days walking - we then were faced with another couple of miles to get the accommodation PLUS then a walk back to town to eat etc. So... not very impressed this time and will go elsewhere next time sadly.
Does Not Inspire Confidence
Cumbersome antiquated online registration programs, which failed repeatedly. Customer service rep began conversation with how I could make it easier for him in the future if I knew a certain acct number, after reporting that for the nth time I could not log in, nor did each new registration work. Unacceptable in the day and age of easy launchpad, dashboard, etc digital platforms. If their digital systems don't work, how helpful can they be when you have a problem on a trek? Spend some money on an up-to-date smooth functioning onboarding system. I will gladly update this when they prove they are able on the ground. Yikes.

Very disappointed with Macs adventure
Very disappointed with Macs adventure. From experience (Catalan Pyrenees), they seem to just be a front for local companies. There is minimal support given to getting to the holiday itself, eg local transport from airport to hotel (in the end I had to book a taxi through Macs just as a precaution - which I cancelled as I didn't need and, despite no cost to Macs, they have refused to refund me) and there is clearly no relationship, and minimal communication, with the local company. On reflection I should have done a bit more homework and booked directly with a local company, and this is what I will do next time.

We are currently at the end of our 6 day Scotland castle tour and it has absolutely been incredible. The accommodations have been very comfortable and accommodating save the stay in Dornie. Even there the scenery was magnificent and the owners were extremely pleasant and accommodating. We added 3 days in Edinburgh at the front of our trip. An amazing city. We also added an extra day in St. Andrews at the end of our trip. This has been a very memorable 40 year anniversary for my wife and I. Certainly when we look to plan another trip we will look to Mac Adventures. Mac Adventures WELL DONE AND THANK YOU!
Very cookie cutter
Very cookie cutter - no specific trail info and agent knew nothing about trail (e.g., how to get to inn from trail or parts to skip to avoid excessive road walking). Never received info pack/luggage tag. Inns were nice. Transfer on time but had to share even after I paid solo supplement. Bag only delayed once. Would use another service next time.

We went with Macs Adventure to walk a section of the Wicklow Way. We’ve walked in the UK with other similar companies. We were disappointed with our trip with Macs.
1. We were a late booker, but they did not send the info pack to arrive before we left. We lacked critical information on the trip. On return home we found the pack and posted it back. After some emailing, they finally refunded the cost of the maps, guide etc.
2. We wanted to have a shorter first day. Macs were inflexible and said we needed to stick to the set itinerary. They could have suggested cutting the first two miles along a road and the taxi dropping us slightly further along the road.
3. One of our accommodations was a room only. No fresh milk to make tea on arrival. No breakfast. Macs agreed to a reduction, initially £8 each but this would not cover a full cooked breakfast. Finally they increased the amount refunded.
4. Another night we learnt we’d originally been booked to stay in the inn with a nice bar area etc, but the booking was moved by Macs to the cheaper B&B over the road with a tiny bedroom, no other common room, the shower had damp problems, not as fun as being in the inn. I presume Macs did this to save money.
5. Their map on the app didn’t show the obvious walkers’ route to take near Glendalough.
6. Overall, there was a lack of care to what makes a great walking trip. Fantastic scenery but I can’t recommend Macs Adventures.
