Their Imprint Royalties software is a fantastic product designed specifically to save small publishers time and resources, neither of which are abundant when you're running a small press! Previously, I had been generating royalty statements on an annual basis using a complicated set of Excel spreadsheets and mail merges in Word. However, this method relied entirely on my human input and was prone to both errors and accidental disruptions of the spreadsheet and mail merge. I had been searching for royalty and title management software for some time, and it wasn't until I came across Imprint Royalties that I found one with both the functionality and the price point I needed.

I enquired with Moonstruck whether the program was capable of calculating royalties as a percentage of RRP (one of the two ways publishers often calculate royalties) and expected a simple yes or no. Instead, the response I received was that while the program was not currently programmed to calculate royalties based on RRP, they would build it into the program at no additional cost. Now that is excellent customer service! This change took less than a week, and I was then able to purchase and begin using the software. To say I was impressed would be an enormous understatement. They also offered to jump on a video call to assist me if I encountered difficulties setting up and using the software.

It's a well-designed program built with the small publisher in mind. The initial setup was not very difficult and required no more effort than usual. However, the difference between this program and my old self-made Excel-based system is that you do the initial setup once in Imprint Royalties, and then it does the rest of the work for you. In contrast, my homemade system required me to do all of the work all of the time. As a result, I am already saving time and gaining valuable insights into the profitability of my business and my titles, and I can check royalties payable in an instant at any time I want without doing any additional work.

I highly recommend Moonstruck and their Imprint Royalties software to any small or medium-sized publisher that wants to reduce the amount of time and resources spent on administration while simultaneously increasing their insight into their own business in terms of sales trends, profitability, and expenses. This software is very reasonably priced and will pay for itself many times over in saved time and resources, with the added bonus that it also allows you to track overall and individual title profitability and expenses.
