All about the money

This vet practice used to be absolutely brilliant, its unfortunate that it has gone like many others and is all about the money, my dogbhad had multiple dental procedures, more often than not without the vet actually taking a good look inside my dogs mouth, they just say book him in. The last time I went the same thing happened and I refused, he had had four within the space of 18mths and one of those was due to a vet leaving bone exposed in my dogs mouth and he was ill and in pain for 2 weeks.
I have recently moves to a new vets, the stress was unbelievable as I felt my dog was going to need another dental due to horrendous breath. I couldn't believe it when the vet actually took a look in my dogs mouth and said to me......I know what is causing this straight away as I can smell it, he has an autoimmune condition which is causing acid and its making him allergic to the plaque on his teeth and we most certainly not be putting him through any dental as he actually doesn't have many teeth. He said at his age it's about making him pain free and comfortable. I couldn't believe it, we have been going to this new vets every other week now and the vet has told us his mouth is improving. My pets vets have fleeced us out of money and caused our dog unnecessary dentals when it wasn't needed. Also when we have transferred the notes over to the new vet I see we have been charged for wormer on numerous occasions when I have never actually had wormer from them as I always buy it online. Don't use this vets, it's not about the animals care anymore

Died under sedation

While many of the staff at this practice are excellent, I have had repeated issues with one specific veterinarian. On one occasion, his refusal to prescribe antibiotics led to increased scarring in my dog’s nose, resulting in permanent respiratory obstruction. Most tragically, during a routine investigation for facial swelling, my dog was sedated twice without what I believe was a proper risk assessment for her breed. She unfortunately passed away during the procedure. Due to these experiences, I have moved my remaining pets to a different clinic. Edit: During the explanation the vet refused to take responsibility and called my girl it

Inconsistent surprise fees no customer care

attended the vets in leigh for our annual vaccinations and health check on our 7yr old gsd cross. expected to pay around 50 for this as last year it was 45.00 including kennel cough. all clearly itemised on my bill.
this year I was flabbergasted to be charged 85 for this, even though the vet informed me she needed one less vaccination than last time. when I questioned it I saw the health check and vaccination cost had jumped up 33% to £60 and they had charged me a separate £25 for the kennel cough which had previously been included. when I queried it i was fobbed off with shrugged shoulders and told prices had gone up. when i asked where the price information was on the website I was told there wasnt any.
no wonder. I raised a formal written complaint and asked for the £25 fee to be refunded due the the lack of transparency and the previous president of it being included.
no reply as yet.
this has really ruined what was previously a decent experience of this vets. they know what they are doing as they haven't published their standard prices for routine things. they are just taking whatever they can get away with.
avoid.

MyPetsVets in Leigh

MyPetsVets in Leigh, Lancs.

I was down south visiting friends when my 16 year old kitty cocoa took sick. It seemed a case of poisoning from something she ate or picked up outside while we travelled I didn't know. I rushed her to the nearest vet in Dorset who charged £140 to examine her an give her an injection to stop her vomiting. The quotation for further care was a whopping £1,000! I was in pieces not knowing what to do. I just didn't have that sum of money to hand and I also questioned the necessity of having to go such an expense. After an hour of phoning other veterinary offices in the area and getting non commital responses the only answer to me. MyPetsVets! Sure it was a five hour drive and Cocoa wouldn't see the vet till tomorrow morning but she had seen a vet now and was stable since the injection. Since was otherwise normally in good health and used to being "on the road" I risked returning to Leigh to the best ever veterinary office I had ever taken our cats, I truly trusted them. We drove up, stayed at a lovely caravansite (another separate positive review of Applegate on the A41) and Cocoa was seen at 10am the next day - got her bloods test, electrolytes, kidneys, liver etc and all were good - slightly high for the kidneys but too worry about the vet said just check again in 6 months. We got her a clay oral paste to help solidify her bowel movements and all in it was £155. Add on the diesel and caravan site fees it doesn't come to 1/3 of the quote of the vets in Dorset. Plus my cat was not subjected to a night in isolation in a cube on intraveneous unnecessarily, nor did I have to wait to wait over 24 hours for test results as amazingly MyPetsVets have a lab in house so there is only a wait fo around 45 minutes - sometimes not even that for results. Avoiding unnecessary treatments, wasted money and added expenses - what more could you ask for. I have read some of the comments and reviews recently left below. I honeslty don't recognise them at all. This practise is where my best mate Pete and I came with our respective cats through the second and third lock downs and beyond. We could not believe the care we got for our cats from MyPetsVets, we had been to any number of vets in Bristol and let me tell you - there wasn't a single vet in Bristol that offered/suggested or even told us about - chicken flavoured gabapentin to calm Sparty our blind feral rescue cat from India down enough to be examined?- all the Bristol vets just cowered, refused to examine him, or gave up after a few attempts - he nearly died once from a minor infection due to lack of treatment thanks to Bristol vets useless knowledge and attitude! Not to mention it ended up costing me hundreds and hundreds of pound in emergency vet bills and still nothing happened??? At MyPetsVets they knew exactly what to do. It saved money, stress for me and for our cats. Then Cocoa's teeth - in Bristol they wouldn't look after her teeth, get to Leigh and it was no problem. Of course it costs money, it's not cheap, nothing is cheap but it is not astronomical. It's worth it, it's professional, it's compassionate care too. I am actually rather upset by the recent reviews - in all the years I have gone with our two cats I have seen nothing but excellent care....I think some people are taking big advantage of the generousity of this practice .... once I saw a woman in the parking lot, a dog breeder, she felt it was her right to block the parking lot entrance....this practice is non judgemental and treats everyone as fairly as they can. Perhaps that explains the unreasonable reviews?

Lack of duty of care

I rang for a repeat prescription, paid for it over the phone & was told to order the meds & ring back with a reference no.
Then got a text a few days later saying Rupert needed a consultation with the vet before it could be processed,
At the appointment I was asked if Rupert was ok, I said yes, that was the consultation over, i was charged £40 for this,, when I asked why it was so expensive the receptionist said that’s the cost for a vet consultation, now I totally understand this if an examination was done ,, Rupert was not touched by the vet just asked me if if was ok , he wasn’t even weighed! We were in the room for 5mins at the most!!
I was told the medication had changed from human form to animal form,, I explained I’d already ordered the medication, was assured it would be ok this time but next time would change ,, the human medication I’d ordered cost £28.80. I received a phone call the day after from the pharmacy saying the prescription wasn’t the same medication I’d ordered,, the cost for the animal form was £749.
I rang the vets , explained to the receptionist who was lovely & very understanding that I couldn’t afford this & asked if there was an alternative medication available , I was told I’d receive a call back , I haven’t received a call just an email saying they were sorry , there was nothing they could do!
Surely it was duty of care for them to let me know when the medication law changed then I could of made a decision with ample time what course I’d take, due to the messing around for a week I’ve been left with 8 days meds,, been told I can’t just stop them that he had to be weened off them,,
The medication is for anxiety,, so now I will have a more anxious dog due to his medication not being administered properly,,
My pets vets you have shown yourselves to be about money & not about the care of animals

If I could give 0

If I could give 0, I would. Downright rude on the phone told me they didn't have my boys drug suggested one I'd tried and hung up. Absolutely appalling when you're upset.

Awful NIGHTMARE.

Awful, awful, awful , awful nightmare experience that I am still emotionally recovering from, between the 09.11-11.11.2024 !

I have requested a SAR , CCTV footage, how the nurse was so sweet, got me to sign the papers and requested SUM.
As soon I struggled to pay full amount, and was trying to make phone calls to sort the payment out and asked questions, she turned around and started threatening me at the reception to SEPARATE me from my ''boy'' and call the POLICE !!! These were actual threats towards me, over simple questions ? Can you imagen ? This is illegal, to get people sign over their PET and threaten them with Police.

Then they said, they will put my ''sweet boy to sleep'' if I can't pay and not RELEASE HIM BACK TO ME ! and call the Police ! I absolutely panicked. Most appalling and inhumane treatment.

I have significant health issues as well, and I was so poorly. Absolutley SHOCKING tactics. They could have as well kept my boy longer and explained nicely and Clearly a give a helpful quote to Work together to help him recover, and just suggest a longer stay quote.

Instead, it was Re-hospitalisation Fee's and Threats to put him to sleep.

All they did was ''good cop'' and ''bad cop'' tactics. By sending their vets and head nurses to give insights and then their nurses to threaten me , that my BOY was so poorly that ''he needs to be put to sleep''.
Awful wome. Who should be ''life'' Givers, but instead they are acting like ''inhumane'' repeating the same things over and over again. Just absolutely traumatising experience.

Pump the ''animal'' up with ''glucose'' to abnormal levels, then act surprise, why the animal crashes right after being unplugged.

You give animals ''Fluid'' foods, in Soup forms . Not solid !!! foods while they are on fluid treatments. Human beings, are kept on fluid treatments at times for a ''week'' even, to help them recover and ''resolve'' the matters normally.

Just awful inexperienced, ''money grabbing business''.

Now they are calling me each day 10 times, to get the last payment.
JUST horrible ... tactics. Just awful human beings.
