Worse Vet

I am a Consultant within the NHS, where respect and clear communication are fundamental. Unfortunately, this standard has not been reflected in my recent interactions with a particular vet, Rebecca.

This is now the second consecutive appointment where I have experienced her manner as condescending, dismissive, and unprofessional and belittling. On both occasions, I felt belittled rather than supported.

During the most recent consultation, I felt her tone had become patronising and said so directly, asking her to stop. Her response was, “I will stop when you start listening to me.” I calmly clarified that I was listening. This exchange was uncomfortable and unnecessary, and it contributed to an already tense situation.

I also had concerns about the way my dog was handled, which felt overly forceful. When my dog became distressed and resistant, this was attributed to poor training, with comments such as him being a “naughty dog,” rather than adapting the approach to manage his anxiety.

Additionally, she raised her voice regarding the dog’s collar, stating in a threatening manner that it was a legal requirement. This was not explained in a calm or professional way.

I would like to emphasise that I have had positive experiences with other members of the team, who have been consistently caring and professional. However, my experiences with this vet have been sufficiently negative that I no longer feel comfortable continuing care at this practice.

Having since read other reviews describing similar experiences, it appears this may not be an isolated incident.

I am extremely disappointed and will be seeking care elsewhere.

Worse the practice manager phoned and no apology but defensive of the behaviour yet telling me that she cannot comment on behaviour as she was not present. Highly financially driver and contrive things to make you feel guilty

Rebecca is highly aggressive Vet verbally and in her handling of our dog.

Exotics vet Ayrshire - Gecko

Struggled to find a vet who deals with exotics in Ayrshire and it was suggested I try Paul at Oaks Vets for my Gecko. Having made my first visit to Oaks Vets today, I cannot rate Paul highly enough. Oaks need to publicise the fact that Paul deals with exotics as no-one in Ayrshire seems to know this hidden fact!

Oaks has been our vetinary surgery for over 10 years. Rebecca has always been fantastic with our bunnies, very quick to pick up on any serious problems and explains her opinion in a clear concise way. We took our rabbit in for a general health check and Rebecca immediately noticed a problem with her breathing and gave us great advice and prescribed suitable medication. Perhaps the people leaving bad reviews forget that the vetinary appointment is about the creatures we love and not the owners feelings. Reception staff are also excellent, no complaints at all. I would thoroughly recommend them.

Amazing experience

I have been visiting the Oak Vets in Fishguard for over the year and need to visit on a monthly basis with my cat. From the greeting from the Reception staff to the Vets and Veterinary Nurses they have been supportive and obviously love pets. I have been today and again they have been so supportive and explained everything to us very clearly. I would not want to go anywhere else. More importantly, my cat seems very relaxed in their hands. Thank you.

Oaks vets

Hi to anyone reading this review.
I just want to let people know about my experience with Rebecca Rowe at Oaks Vets.
I have taken my animals to Oaks for nigh on 24 years. Used to see a lovely vet there, Mr Sender. But times have changed.
All my local friends who take their animals to Oaks have at least one story, usually more, about Rebecca whether that be rudeness, aggressive communication, or even repeatedly wanting to euthanise a dog that was being looked after superbly and still had quality of life.
I try to be kind and give people the benefit of the doubt so accepted that Rebecca was not great at ‘people skills’ and tolerated her abruptness and lack of two way conversation about my animals who I love dearly.
Yesterday I had enough. My daughter who is vulnerable and has autism and can be anxious took on the care of an elderly cat from another family. Unbeknownst to us the cat arrived with a lot of health issues. No problem for us. We were happy to care for her and sort things out for her. She had started on specialist thyroid food, had blood tests etc but Rebecca had been rude and abrasive with my daughter and she felt scared of her.
The cat needed another appointment due to not eating a lot so I booked an appointment for Saturday having spoken to Rebecca who was her usual abrasive self but then when I told my daughter she said she couldn’t go to see Rebecca as she is scared of her and felt she would just want to put her to sleep. I cancelled the appointment with Rebecca and explained why. She was not happy and stated the cat had to be seen. I said we could book in for Monday with another vet but she said this was not good enough and that the cat needed to be seen the next day. I said fine, that I would do that. She then started ranting about how I needed to inform her of the appointment, that she could report us to ‘the authorities’ several times. I said that was fine (I have nothing to hide. All our animals are loved and taken care of). After my call with her I got on the phone immediately to another vet to book an appointment for the cat.
No kidding an hour later the RSPCA turned up. They had been told it was an ‘emergency’ and they had ‘blue lighted’ for over an hour to get to us. She was very kind and bemused by it all but we agreed that the cat was going to the vets the following day. What a waste of resources.
Cat seen at another vets today who was apologetic for another vets behaviour towards me and my daughter, explained all the options of how we could get the cat sorted which Rebecca never does, with her just in and out as quick as possible. Rebecca had wanted to do dental work on the cat. Even I knew that putting such a small fragile cat under general anaesthetic would not be appropriate and this was confirmed by the new vet who said would like to do some dental work in 3 months when she is more solid and stable. We bought painkillers for her in case she is in discomfort and got different thyroid treatment from her which is more suitable.
Needless to say I have now registered all my animals with this new vet.
This is mainly a review of Rebecca but having gone into a different vet today for the first time in years and being met with kind, smiling, knowledgeable reception staff and nurses and a kind competent vet I realised I had just got used to the environment at the Oaks and that it really is not a welcoming or kind place anymore.
I never write reviews about anything but fore warned is fore armed. Rebecca must have received a lot of feedback about her behaviour and attitude but clearly has no capacity for self reflection and no capacity to change.
I am so happy that we have left there and found somewhere welcoming. The End.

Worse ever.

I brought my pet cat to this vet because he was unwell. Unfortunately, it was decided that he had to be put down. When the lady vet returned with him, I noticed his front leg was not shaved where the needle had been placed. When the solution was administered, he cried out in pain before he died. I was then ushered out as soon as possible. This has stayed with me every since. He did not deserve to die like that. This is not the first time I noticed the lack of care shown towards animals in their care. All they seem to care about is money. I truly believe that have no affinity towards the animals in their care. If you truly care about your pets, I would advise you to look elsewhere. I had to have my other cat put down since at another vets and the difference was like night and day.

I recently transfered to this vet as I had an Emergency situation with my dog. Sanjay and his team were amazing, the care they give is outstanding, and are very reasonably priced, which, to me, proves their priority is our pets and not the ££££.
I Highly recommend Oak Vets

Rebecca Rowe nearly killed our dog

We went in with my sister's dog, Pierre, in January with concerns as he stopped walking and required picking up. So we rushed him into the Oaks. Rebecca did not listen to a word we said more interested in palette surgery. She saw that he was on his feet and ignored us. I asked repeatedly for a CT scan and was turned down. I said to Rebecca I think it's a slipped disk. Rebecca said "its his breed, maybe he just doesnt want to walk". She patronised us and ignored our request. She then proceeded to twist his neck, that hard he yelped in so much pain that she was concerned that he tried to bite her, which he did not, and he is a placid dog. What vet thinks it's a good idea to twist a dogs neck when you have come in over concerns of his spine and legs?? The vet is inhumane.
She wanted to prolong his treatment for financial gain. And why prescribe pain relief if she felt there was nothing wrong with him other than trying to get my mom to pay for nasal and palette surgery. She said repeatedly that there's no need for a CT and said she would do bloods. We opted for bloods and was told to take the painkillers. (By the way there is no CT machine here and by refering us it would of meant turning off the money tap).

My mom went in several times with the same back legs concern. Each time Rebecca Rowe had a thing to say about anything other then his legs or getting a scan.

Now my sister's dog's legs aren't working. We took him to her like this and she had the audacity to blame us.

Update:
(Never ever, ever misplace your confidence and what you know to be true because a person is called a "vet." It means nothing.) After time and time again failing to do a duty of care based off of his actual symptoms.
Rebecca then had the audacity to want payment to put him down.

We rushed him to Animal Trust and they read her "glowing" blame shifting notes. However, one surgeon we were referred to saw past these and noticed we had taken him to Rebecca several times and that he in fact needed to be referred for a CT scan which she failed to do.

The surgeon told us he was not fully paralysed, which is what she wrote in her notes. (These notes are dangerous as the other vet went along with them.) The surgeon said he can still feel his feet and can put small amount of weight on them. He said after seeing the CT scan - with 99.9% certainty that not only was the surgery doable, he will more than likely pull through. Contrary to what the other post-Rebecca vet had said. They read this vicious woman's notes. Where as the surgeon paid no notice to them. We were told if he had gone to him in January when we had intially saw Rebecca Rowe Pierre would have been CT scanned and treated before this point. The operation was more complex because Rebecca failed to do her job. Any dog that cannot walk for any period of time, whether on and off, or whatever breed should be scanned. The judgement call she made was based on his breed and was utterly deterimental and almost led to his death. He is only 2.

Rebecca Rowe loves throwing around the word neglectful, look at other reviews but she is the neglectful one.

She showed contempt for my sister's dog and showed obvious signs that she is against French bulldogs. Her examinations are poor, and she is all up for taking the money. Do not come here.

Please, please take your animal to an actual pet hospital where they can be seen by a specialist. Rebecca stalled on any proper diagnosis and failed to refer for scans, wasted precious time-sensivitive time only then to blame us when he could no longer walk and go straight to euthaniser because she herself was not going to recieve anymore payment for the care he actually needed. She cannot do the simplest of scans. She judged our beautiful friend Pierre blindly - no scan and poor examinations and nearly cost him his life. She fundamentally failed her duty of care.
I believe she is sadistic and heartless as long as she is the one getting the money to put your dog down that is still a win for her.

Update:
Pierre has had surgery and is on the mend. Note to self: trust your instincts. It didn't feel right but she is a vet, so we thought she must know what she is doing. Absolutely not. Trust yourself. And please do not come here.

Please Consider Another Practice

We've very sadly left this practice after amazing previous care for both of our two older dogs; all staff across the practice have been wonderful, particularly given we're approaching a very difficult choice with one of them; I really don't want this review to reflect their practice whatsoever. We would like to thank them all for their care and input, particularly Nikki and Sam, and the receptionist that I phoned when I was in tears.
However our experience today with Ms Rowe, the practice owner, has singularly been the worse consumer experience of my adult life. She was so rude and combative that it verged on comedic at times. Her affect at best was brusque and when her tone was addressed by us she insisted repeatedly that it was the information that she was delivering and not her manners that were the issue with her having no interest in repairations. When we felt that we could not continue with the consultation due to her patronising and condescending manner, she made it clear that we would not be welcome back at the practice per se, showing little regard for the care needs of our 17 year old dog with cancer.
We feel vindicated by the many, many reviews on this site of a similar nature, although sadly it seems non of these have had an impact on her bedside manner. Unfortunately we feel the need to pursue a more formal complaint via her governing body.

Absolutely avoid this vet at all costs

Absolutely avoid this vet at all costs. They nearly killed our cat during a simple sterilization procedure. Our cat fainted, and they had to use medication to wake him up—then had the audacity to ask us to pay for it, even though they caused the issue in the first place. Of course, we refused and demanded to speak with the manager.

Instead of apologizing, the manager tried to cover it up, falsely claiming that our cat had an allergy rather than admitting the real cause—anesthetic overdose. We later consulted another specialist, who confirmed that in 99% of cases, fainting during sterilization is due to an overdose of propofol or dexmedetomidine, not an allergy.

To make matters worse, they manipulate their online reputation. While their Google reviews show a misleading 4.3-star rating, their Trustpilot score is much closer to the truth at around 2 stars. They seem to be writing their own positive reviews to hide the real experiences of pet owners.

If you care about your pet’s health and safety, stay far away from this place!

Exhausting experience.

I could reiterate whats already been expressed through other one-star reviews till I'm blue in the face. Unprofessional, untrustworthy, cold and cruel comes to mind. But I think the most notable thing to express is that when you search keywords on the one-star review page Rebecca's name comes up 15 times. 15. Really let that sink in. Don't misplace your confidence in this person or this centre.
I have the date listed as last year but just consider that a start point. Its been consistently bad this whole time.

Receptionist staff are rude

Receptionist staff are rude, is there any need to speak down to customers regarding pet care? Whilst talking to the lady booking my cat in and she was being rude the other two staff members were looking at each other and laughing. Very unprofessional and uncomfortable. When I collected my cat the previous lady was giving me dirty looks whilst the other one spoke down to me about flea treatments. Who do they think they are? I took my further custom elsewhere.

Avoid!!

Our dog has been going to Oaks for over 10 years. He’s had a couple of procedures done over the years and there have been no issues. Not sure what has happened but the last few years, the attitude of certain staff members is appalling considering that this is supposed to be a small, family-oriented, dedicated and independent veterinary practice. Oaks are just out to make money and have zero empathy or compassion. As a result we have changed vets and I wish we had done it years ago. I’m not the only one saying that things have changed at Oaks, just have a look at the other reviews on Google and on Trustpilot.

The oaks go above and beyond.

Very welcoming reception staff, vets and nurses are simply amazing, they genuinely care about their patients. The place is spotlessly clean and I've never had a bad visit, and I'm there alot! Compared with other vets I think the prices are very fair. The vet will always offer as many options as possible in an effort to accommodate the client but always keeps the best interest of the animal as a priority. I'd give more than 5 stars if possible.
