Kate was so helpful in providing all of the information that I needed in order to prepare for and depart on my trip. She was very kind and responsive to emails even with a large time difference. Kate and Oyster did a great job laying out the trip and flight information in detail and made me feel confident and comfortable about going on my volunteering trip to South Africa.

I had a wonderful time in Romania at the Libearty Bear Sanctuary. Kate was very helpful during the weeks leading up to the trip. Once I arrived at the Bucharest airport everything went very smoothly. Razvan arranged a driver to pick me up and when I arrived in Brasvo Razvan was there to greet me and get me settled in the flat. Razvan was wonderful, always available and informative. Ovi the driver over the week was a lot of fun and quite knowledgeable.
The sanctuary was a heart warming experience , one I won't soon forget. Seeing the bears every day in their Happy Place was truly the best feeling. Making bear ice-cream was rewarding.
Enjoy watching the horses run free through the sanctuary, and making new dog pals added to the experience.

As a first time solo traveler at 17 years old Oyster worldwide we’re fanastic at helping me at every stage necessary allowing something I was quite nervous about to run incredibly smoothly and without worry allowing me to make friends all over the world.

I am 2 weeks into my 8 week volunteering programme in South Africa teaching sports. I am having a amazing time! It been wonderful so far. The schools have been on holiday so we have been to Jeffreys Bay for 3 nights, we went to some really cool accommodation on the beach and got the opportunity to go skydiving, surfing and sandboarding. We have a lot of freedom especially when we are away we got to chose what we want to do in the day, what activities we want to do or weather we just want to chill and where we want to eat. We have just started a holiday camp which has been amazing getting to know the children and coaching them the sports. The accommodation at Port Elizabeth is basic but the Mumas, the ladies who cook for us, cooking is amazing. All of the staff are so kind, welcoming and supportive. I feel that if I had any problems I could talk to them and they would help. I feel very safe and the staff are very good at giving advice about what to activities to do and helping us keep safe. It's been so special to get to know the other volunteers and they feel like you've know them for so much longer than you have! I would 100% recommend some else to do it! And im so exited for the rest of the time away.

I received great support during the preparation phase, and all my questions were answered and clarified. Upon arriving in Brasov, I was given a very warm welcome – a special thanks to Razvan, who always made sure I was in the right place at the right time and that everything was perfect for me. The overall support was excellent! The work with the Home Care Association project was interesting to observe, though there wasn't much opportunity to get hands-on experience or help out directly, and I was often only able to spend 3–4 hours a day at the project. However, I was deeply touched by the openness of both the patients and the staff.

My volunteering experience with Oyster was at the Libearty Bear Sanctuary in Romania. All the arrangements for the trip went smoothly and the information available via the Oyster portal was invaluable. Kate Tipler provided great support leading up to the trip and once in Romania the Oyster Rep Razvan was extremely helpful regarding all aspects of the volunterring work plus the day to day aspects of staying in Romania. The accommodation was very comfortable and Brasov is a lovely city.
I would thoroughly recommend this trip to others. It was humbling and highly rewarding to work in the Sanctuary and to be able to see the magnificent bears on a daily basis over the two weeks. All the bears have been rescued from cruelty and hardship and to see them free to manifest more normal bear behaviours was very rewarding. Contributing to the running of the Sanctuary through bear food preparation and other Sanctuary maintenance tasks was enjoyable and gratifying and I felt like part of the team, even if only for two weeks. The Sanctuary itself is a place of peace and reflection and I came away feeling both grounded in nature and that I had made a small but significant contribution to something very positive....I plan to return, it was that good!

My daughter used Oyster Worldwide to complete the residential element for her Duke of Edinburgh. Kate at Oyster was simply fantastic. Answered and provided all the details and information needed for the trip. Reassured me as a parent and included me in the portal so I could access all the documents required. The trip to the Game reserve was an amazing experience and one that will be remembered for a lifetime. The staff were great supporting my daughter gain confidence and skills. She worked alongside other volunteers from around the world - not only learning about the flora and fauna of the area but learning about other cultures. My daughter's trip was 7 days but she wishes she stayed for at least 2 weeks. Her highlights were going to the school to prepare the school meals and experiencing the Big 5 up close. Can not recommend highly enough. Thank you.

I really enjoyed the whole experience & would definitely recommend it. The surf lessons were really good & the beach cleaning was fun. There was also plenty of time to socialise and explore. There was staff around to help but I felt really independent and overally it was a fantastic week and a great way to get my DoE residential

I have been impressed by the communication from oyster worldwide throughout the process from initial enquiry to project completion. They are well organised and are prepared to go the extra mile to accommodate requests ( we wanted a project with cats that would take a parent and 16 year old together)
They also made sure that we could book our weeks in way ahead of the calender opening for that period which greatly helped in our own organisation!

The location was great, and I met some brilliant people in the hostel. Combining the beach conservation with surfing was good fun and being able to meet new people on nights out in Lisbon was excellent. I would love to do this trip again!

I spent a truly unforgettable week volunteering with Marine Dynamics in South Africa. Oyster were incredibly helpful in preparing me for the trip, making sure everything is going smoothly, and signing off relevant documents, it made the whole thing a breeze! The staff were so attentive and helpful even after my trip was over.

It was very relaxed, a great atmosphere. We were mainly left to manage ourselves which meant we had freedom and learned to be responsible. I feel like I really matured while away. Really recommend

We booked the South Africa experience for our son. I was incredibly nervous about him going to SA, he is only 18 but it was so reassuring for us to know that there were staff available to support and assist him, should he need it. Thanks to Kate for all her help in booking the scheme. Our son has had a wonderful time, he has made memories to last a lifetime. Thanks for making this possible.

Found Oyster on the DofE approved provider list & signed our son up for the surf/conservation camp in Portugal. Slightly anxious about how solo travel would work but the website has lots of really comprehensive/useful information & checklists & we had a dedicated contact who kept us on track. Kate kept up regular comms with us throughout & was on hand with quick responses to queries. Our son said it was the best trip ever! Accommodation was great, location perfec, local staff really friendly & helpful. Really good orientation day at the beginning & a really good balance of independence & support. The surfing instruction was excellent & he really enjoyed the conservation work. Fantastic opportunity to have fun/be part of something worthwhile as well as make friends from all over the world. Despite being his first solo trip abroad we were reassured by the level of professionalism of Oyster & would definitely recommend/use again.

I have just completed a 2 week Marine Conservation Project in Lisbon, Portugal. It was amazing from start to finish. Katy who booked it for me helped and advised all the way through brilliantly and the staff at the project were great. Would highly recommend booking any gap year experiences or Duke of Edinburgh residentials through this company. Thank you, memories to last a lifetime, and now I can Scuba Dive!

I'm halfway through my 5th Bear Sanctuary experience as a volunteer with Oyster. 5 stars is not enough to describe how amazing this place continues to be. The flat in Brașov is the hub of your time here and is very comfortable with everything you need. The old city itself is as charming and laid back as I remember.

That first view of a bear at the sanctuary as you enter never ever gets old and is as special on the 5th occasion as it was the 1st.

I've absolutely loved being back in Romania at Libearty. Whether it's preparing food or painting fences, life is always better when there are bears watching you work!

I've saved the best for last though. The legend that is Răzvan, who will help you and guide you through your time here is incredible. His dedication to helping volunteers, not just at the sanctuary but making sure they enjoy their time in Brașov is exemplary.

I had an absolutely great time doing the Australian farm work program. I met some great people and ended up with a really good job on a cattle property in the outback for 3.5 months. An unparalleled experience which I wouldn’t have been able to have if it wasn’t for my agent Georgie who guided me through the application process. It was a pleasure to meet Georgie at the training farm and put a face to the name. As well as being a great agent, Georgie isn’t too bad at pool either! 10/10 experience and would highly recommend Oyster worldwide to anyone looking for work overseas. Thank you!
