Good luck getting paid (you won’t). As another user suggested, they’ll provide reasons that don’t make sense to deny your claim. If you fight it, well, let’s say they make it near impossible. That’s their business model. STAY AWAY. Just save the money for any future expenses because you won’t come out ahead with these guys.

Terrible service from a terrible company

I’ve never dealt with a company that hides behind confusing, over-engineered wording the way this pet insurance provider does. Every claim feels like a homework assignment — pages of “legal-sounding” policy language that only they seem to understand, and somehow every sentence ends up meaning “not covered.”

I signed up expecting clear support for my pet. Instead, it feels like they’ve designed their policies to be as vague and technical as possible, so they can deny anything they want. Whenever I ask for clarification, I get a copy-and-paste paragraph that explains nothing and contradicts their own previous messages. It’s like they speak a different language.

The worst part? The reps sound friendly, but they always redirect you back to the same impossible-to-decipher policy wording. It leaves you feeling tricked — like you’re paying monthly just to be told “no” in 12 paragraphs.

If you want transparency, honesty, or even basic clarity, this is not the company for you. Save yourself the frustration and choose an insurer that actually values your time, your money, and your pet’s wellbeing.

Pets Plus us - no follow up, no care

Pets Plus us - was a policy i had been paying into (formerly PC pets) for 9 years + for my Dog and never used. In august my dog was hit by a car and was in serious condition. I reached out to check my coverage only to find I had been part of a legacy plan which they cancelled. They did not mail me a letter or call me (both were on file) but simply sent an email to an old address that didn't exist anymore and they would have received an undeliverable. I had no knowledge i no longer had coverage. when i called they said they would appeal. I followed up a few weeks later and had a really helpful rep who said a decision could take up to 60 days. It is now november, I have spent 20 000 to save my dog (and it worked thank god) but not thanks to this company. I am completely floored at the lack of effort to move my policy over and then again at the lack of response to appeal. At this point i want nothing to do with this company - after paying into a policy for over 9 years they don't even have the decency to follow up with me when the plan was cancelled (by them) OR for my appeal...this all happened while I was watching my very loved dog recover from major surgeries to save her life. I work in customer service and always send in notes when i receive good service (and I want to say again the second agent i spoke to was lovely) - but I can't stand by and not comment when there is a lack of care for the customer during the time they need you most. 100% would not recommend.

Loyalty Apparently Comes with a 500% Surcharge

I used to think pet insurance brought peace of mind. Then I saw my Pets Plus Us renewal. The premium is now $379 a month — 130% higher than last year and more than 500% above where it started. Same coverage, same pet, same me. Just a price tag that keeps reinventing itself.

I asked for a review of the policy and got a series of polite form letters followed by replies that sounded tired of hearing from customers. It’s impressive, really — few companies can raise rates this high while lowering expectations this far.

If you’re considering Pets Plus Us, ask yourself one question: how attached are you to your wallet?

This company ROBS you, by increasing premiums SUBSTANTIALLY every year. I think they are trying to force you to cancel by the time your dog is aging. I am now paying almost $200/mth for my 4 year old dog. GREEDY THIEVES.

Great first-time experience with Pets Plus Us

Pets Plus Us has been a great insurance provider to me and my two cats. The signup process was easy and straightforward, especially if your vet has already worked with PPU. One of our cats unexpectedly manifested a host of digestive and skin issues that we are still trying to troubleshoot, and having PPU help us out with covering a lot of the expenses has been a godsend. My family has never had pet insurance before and it's been a great first experience. Big thanks to Pets Plus Us!

First time owning pet insurance

This is my first time owning pet insurance. I have to say it's a blessing in disguise. Not knowing a lot about pet insurance, I had to follow up with the insurance broker to find out what the status of my claim was because it was 3 weeks after I submitted it. Until I reached out to them I didn't realize I was missing documentation for them to complete the claim. Once they received all the documentation from my veterinarian and surgeons everything went quickly and smoothly. The claim was approved within a week.

The only think I wish Pets Plus Us would do is provide better communication why my claim was delayed and what was required.

Outside of that the communication was easy once I knew what I was doing.

Keep Looking

Our dogs policy is up renewal in October and we received this.

Policy Name: Pets Plus Us Choice
Anniversary Date: xxxxx
Monthly Premium (with taxes): $249.18

At the time of renewal XXXX will have MOVED TO THE NEXT AGE BAND, and your deductible will be $500.00.
This is a 230% increase! From $109.00month...

When I inquired about the increase, assuming it was a clerical error this is what I was told ...

At Pets Plus Us, we don’t increase premiums based on how many claims you’ve made OR THE AGE OF YOUR PET. That said, we do have to keep our premiums in-line with the costs of veterinary care, which do continue to rise due to inflation and the continued advancement in veterinary medicine, both of which, can and do impact our overall claims experience. We understand that it’s challenging when costs increase. As veterinary costs increase, and new innovative treatments become available overall treatments become more expensive.

To confirm, the new monthly premium for XXXX's Pets Plus Us Choice policy will be $249.18 when your policy renews

PetsPlusUs - fair, trusted and thorough

A claim for a new pet. A mysterious and sudden food related event, which we believe was poisoning. After full explanation and update and medical records the claim was covered. I’m sure other companies would have fought this and refused to pay, but they listened. We have all 4 pets with this company and I highly recommend them.

Excellent insurance company

Great friendly service when I have needed to call them for inquiries not listed on their website. Really easy to submit a claim and I am thankful vet is able to do it on my behalf. Fair pricing for coverage. Thankful I have pet insurance as it has saved me $$$$

Stay away from them

Stay away from them . My dog got an ear infection and when my policy came up for renewal , not only did they increase the price of my policy . They excluded ear infections all together . I’m putting the monthly insurance payment in a separate account and funding my own pet insurance . These people are nothing more than scammers in my opinion . I had no claims and the ear infection cost was less than my deductible . So in other words they didn’t pay out anything but followed through with an exclusion for something reasonably cheap . If anything major were to happen , it’s my opinion that they would just cancel all together . Stay clear of these people .

Pets Plus Us Review by Denise T

I have a 3-year-old Westie named Hamish. He certainly has “Westitude”, and I love him dearly. He has been my companion since he was seven weeks old. He has the typical Westie health issues - allergies, dermatitis, ear infections. However, at 1 year old he was diagnosed with a serious disease - a liver shunt (portosystemic shunt). It is a birth defect wherein the blood bypasses the liver, preventing proper detoxification. Toxins build up in the bloodstream and can cause potentially fatal health concerns. He has also been diagnosed with gastroesophageal reflux (GERD) and urine crystals in his bladder.

Hamish has had four partners managing his care. He is fortunate to have Horseshoe Valley Veterinarians (Barrie, ON) and their team as his primary care givers. They are a wonderful team of professionals. Then there is team at the Toronto Animal Health Partners Emergency and Specialty Hospital who took care of him in June, 2023 when they diagnosed his liver shunt and performed the surgery on him in August to close it. Another partner are the experts at Royal Canin who help choose the diet supporting his special needs.

These have been challenging times for Hamish and me, and all his health care providers. Thankfully, and importantly, our fourth partner, Pets Plus Us is the cornerstone of his heath. They have helped with the vet bills and give me peace-of-mind to enable me to continue treating his various health issues. Their pet portal is easy to use to find out details about my policy and to submit my claims and medical records. And they are prompt at reimbursing me!
Pet Plus Us helps me give Hamish the care he needs to stay healthy and to keep him by my side.

Terrible customer service and poor policy communication

This company had changed hands and is not
Interested in helping your animals, only in making as much money as possible. They proposed a 300% raise in monthly fees for a policy we have had for 15 years. We have faithfully paid into this policy so that it would be there when needed. Despite numerous emails requesting further information, they refuse to send via email and insist on a phone call. It is our legal right to see this written information.

I just recently took an insurance from…

I just recently took an insurance from them for my 3 cats.
1) They ask 3 tests for an older cats but don't pay for them even if everything is ok.
2) My older cats got sick right after those tests and even if they said she was covered from the start, they refuse to pay for her illness.
3) Now they ask me why I want to remove her from the insurance!!!

Discourage insuring older dogs

When my dog turned 13 they more than doubled premiums to $333.27 a month plus $500 deductible from $145 per month. It seems they only want to insure young healthy dogs. I would never use them again.

Voleurs !

Bonjour, je viens de constater le paiement de Pets Plus Us passe depuis un ans soit 01-07-2024 au 09-06-2025 sur ma carte de crédit et pourtant je l’avais cancellé et il m’accusé que je ne l’ai jamais cancellé et que même un vétérinaire leur a dit quel était inscrite chez eux mais n’était pas encore venu faire son examen mais le vétérinaire qu’ils m’ont dit que je fesait affaire avec était à Trois-Rivière mais je demeure à Mercier sur la rive sud de Montréal juste à côté de Châteauguay ?? J’ai cancellé par envoi de mon e-mails mais encore là ils me disent qu’ils n’ont rien reçu! C’est plus facile ile pour eux de dire qu’ils n’ont pas commis d’erreurs que de me remboursé mon 700 dollars.
Et en passant j’ai cancellé comme je leur est expliqué l’assurance pour la petite chatte Cloé pour qui je voulais soumettre une assurance parce que je l’ai donné à ma sœur qui l'a voulait. Voilà pourquoi j’ai cancellé la journée même tout ça par email mais ils disent qu’ils n’ont rien .

Tout simplement des voleurs, aucune place au dialogue
Et pourtant je suis une personne à son affaire et mon argent est durement gagné , triste de voir qu’un système informatique peux dire où admettre qu’il y a eu une erreur d’envoie où qu’il y a eu un bogue mais non eux leur politique ; le client est toujours coupable !

Finalement ils sont comme tout les compagnies d’assurance.
Des BANDITS AVEC UN PERMIS !

Like other posters

Like other posters, I started with PC financial pet insurance and it was then taken over by pets plus. I have a 15 year-old dog. I just received a renewal and her insurance has gone from $104 a month to $242.a month. This is astronomical and is taking advantage of the insured. I would definitely say buyer beware with this company. I was floored that they increased my rate by 130%. We also have a $500 deductible. And when I asked if there was a way for me to Have it looked at again by the underwriter, I was told that was impossible. I am beyond words that I am considering cancelling pet insurance on a dog that is 15 years old that has had pet insurance her entire life. Look elsewhere this is not a trustworthy company.
