Consistently ignored
I have now sent messages for 2 months straight to at least 15 different therapists. Not one reply. Not one. To think that this is supposed to be for mental health care I can’t help but to think of the irony of therapist after therapist literally IGNORING you when it is for MENTAL HEALTH! Its mind blowing honestly and tells me all I need to know about the integrity of this site and the therapist’s it employs.
Couple in Poole
Absolutely disgusted by a couple that are registered and call themselves both councillors when neither are but just scam you for your money and intimidate you!
Poor Experience and Lack of Transparency
I’ve had a really disappointing experience with Psychology Today as a therapist. There’s no way to pause or cancel your subscription from your profile — I had to block payments through my credit card just to stop being charged. Even worse, they don’t clearly show what you’re being billed for, and there’s no breakdown of charges anywhere in your account.
6 months later, when I re-joined, they charged me for two months of service I didn’t want, claiming I owed £40 — without ever notifying me. When I reached out to complain, the support team was unhelpful and refused to issue a refund. Apparently, the only way to cancel is by email, which feels outdated and unnecessarily complicated.
Overall, the lack of transparency and control over your own subscription is unacceptable. I wouldn’t recommend this service to other professionals.
Deep Connections LLC in VA, Courtney Howard
Deep Connections LLC in VA, Mara Courtney Howard has brought my recovery forward, with her knowledge and encouragement related to depression/anxiety, grief recovery, healthy communication skills, and coping methods. Since working weekly with Courtney, my family relationships have drastically improved, and I am able to view challenges through a gentler lens, with empathy, compassion and humor. Courtney is a blessing; such a great counselor. I highly recommend her and trust her implicitly.
I am a business owner with eight…
I am a business owner with eight therapists. I would have rated psychology today highly about one year ago. Now I am reading it a one because I am not getting any client referrals from it nor are my staff. Whatever changes have been made. they have not been for me and my Staff.
Difficult to opt out.
As a counsellor I joined Psychology Today in the hope of sourcing clients. A period of grace is given before charging however since I have attracted no clients from PT in the past 6 months I am trying to cancel my profile and it is proving quite difficult. I have contacted PT but yet to get a response.
Psychology Today’s practices benefit them, not users
Psychology Today’s setup is designed to help their own website gain more authority in search engines rather than genuinely support providers or visitors. They do not offer meaningful backlinks to help independent websites build visibility. At the same time, they encourage people to add badges to their own sites that link back to Psychology Today, which only strengthens Psychology Today’s search standing. This approach feels one-sided and mostly serves Psychology Today’s interests. I would advise anyone to look closely at what the company actually offers before spending time or money here.
As a therapist
As a therapist, I’ve genuinely appreciated being part of Psychology Today. Many of the clients who have found me through the platform have been an excellent fit. I’ve given 4 stars because referrals can be inconsistent. I regularly update my profile to reflect additional training and expertise, but with so many therapists listed, it can still be challenging for clients to find the right match.
Snake Oil Grifters
Getting a decent therapist in London UK is a nightmare. They haven't got a clue. They are judgemental, condescending, and either say nothing or disregard what you say and preach nonsense they obviously read from a book.
I feel pantronised, angry and anxious when I finish the session. Being a member of BACP means nothing and most will only do Zoom at double the price pre-covid. I want to see the therapist in person.
Psychology Today lists many unqualified therapists. In the UK anyone can call themselves a therapist as over here they are not legally regulated.
I have given up on them. They are so poorly trained, lack experience and give textbook answers and advice.
It feels like they have zero life experience and are winging it to keep enough clients on their books.
Some 'therapists' are only £10 cheaper than a clinical psychologist.
It's all a big scam
For the people on here that are still having money taken from your account, cancel your card. Say you lost it. Then they can't get at your money.
Good luck and be careful - there are so many fake people out there. Good people are hard to find, especially following covid.
Avoid BetterHelp, another scam.
Out dated references/bad therapists
Out dated references, therapists taking new patients / outdated insurance . Most single office don't take insurance because of the paperwork time it takes to complete the insurance is costly for them . Medicare reimburses them $25 so i paid my therapist the $25 so she doesn't have to do paperwork and we can have more sessions than the insurance allow for since im willing to pay out the $25 "copay" when i run out of billable sessions.
Therapists : i left detailed messages in several so as not to waste time, well don't wait for a return confirmation even if its a NO. UNPROFESSIONAL! One guy set up 2 appointments with me, no-showed on the zoom calls and then after i moved on called me and said he was in hospital, well Ok isn't an answering service taking care of your patient load of phone calls for you while your recovering and not able to respond ? WTH!!
Doing more due diligence i found one who had many family issues bipolar trans schiz siblings malignant narcissistic father malignant narcissistic controlling mother and just out of school he was supposed to be an advocate for what he didn't accept in his own life/family. Lots of these ppl have issues too, so check their social media and relatives so you are not fooled by a pretty or handsome face and young voice . Young means zero life experience and if born 1990 or sooner , no thanks . you couldn't possibly have enough experience to handle what i've been through. My most recent , i had a session, told her my issues and what was going on in my life and how i was feeling and after she asked me "how does that make you feel" ! Sure . you didn't hear a word i said for the last 30 min? i just told you how i felt .. i cancelled future sessions I never found anyone of quality in Psych Today .
The website is basically a place for…
The website is basically a place for ads. It is good because it does sort by speciality, location, insurance, etc. It is not so good because not all ads are up to date (e.g., I don't always get responses from inquiries), and I don't think the therapists have been vetted.
Information inaccurate or outdated
Some information on a local therapist is either inaccurate, outdated. One address/contact info does not appear to be current. Left a voicemail (with her personal greeting) at what appears to be current information. No response. Unprofessional.
I cannot CANCEL my subscription!
I cannot CANCEL my subscription!! There is nowhere on the website which allows for cancellation and NO PHONE NUMBER to contact them. I had to ask ChatGPT (who said many people report this about this company!) just to find an email address and have had no reply!! I will have to contact my bank to block them taking my money. They just keep billing me. I am disgusted with this behaviour and I am now going to contact the ACCC if I have not have cancellation confirmation within 24hours. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE.
Not to be trusted site
Signed up for psychology today for free months. They started to take subscriptions without my knowledge. Never got a referral. Scam.
Never sign up with Psychology Today
Never Ever sign up with Psychology Today as a therapist. Once they have you they will bill you forever.
I have paid monthly for 8 years and received perhaps one client from that listing. Now I want to cancel and no matter how hard you look for a way to do that, it cannot be done. Any directions you find online will not work. Psychology Today, as a company, has no desire to hear from you, no compassion for the frustration of being unable to get help, and no respect for you as a therapist. To remain unreachable is clear evidence of a lack of all the things we value as therapists.
Therapists perspective
I am a therapist who has registered with PT and paid, and received no serious clients, only spam calls. Not sure what this platform is for but it seems serious clients also have bad experiences!
Avoid.
Setthree emails to 3 different people…
Sent three emails to 3 different people no reply. Nothing . Horrible. Mental health is real and these Drs rather would prescribe or don't take insurance and make u pay money that a lot of us don't have. I do NOT recommend at all. They do not care about patient health.
Total garbage!
This site is plagued with fake people who will hurt you! They do not care about you at all! They only want your money!
I am with Debra in her views and…
I am with Debra in her views and Jordan’s. Can’t understand why the scam keeps going on and people are using all the fraud forms and documents in psychology. Fraud certificates seem to happen all over. It’s a good think people are cracking down on that. Marry who you want, wear what you want, work where you want and wear whatever makeup you want, along with have babies with who you want (The Royal Way of Life). Remember who your family is.
I can’t find a psychologist
I can’t find a psychologist. You can’t search for a doctoral level therapist. They need a better search function
