I purchased a Kohler (now Relhko since 2024-09-17) 12 kW residential standby generator in March 2021 that went online in May 2021. Before that generator, at a different residence, I owned a 16 kW Generac generator for 12.5 years.
I was initially going to leave a one-star review, but to be fair to Rehlko, my 2021 Kohler 336HGMHR0166 model 12RESV generator has been much better overall than its Generac predecessor. My current issues with the Rehlko generator are a faulty low oil pressure sensor, which was finally diagnosed by my installer late last week. That is to be replaced at a future date.
Most importantly, the Android version of the Kohler Home Energy app is no longer displaying the total electrical load on my generator. That is critical information for me, since my 12 kW Rehlko generator cannot meet the electrical load in winter of this electrically-heated two-story old home. I need to avoid an overload situation by switching off electrical load that I deem non-essential.
The online app (now discontinued) and the mobile app formerly displayed that information. Now the mobile app does not, and I am flying blind.
My efforts to have Rehlko Support respond to my concerns have met with a bunch of "boilerplate" responses. They suggested that they would send my request to their developers to add this "new" feature.
It is not a "NEW" feature: it did work, and now it doesn't! I have sent Rehlko screenshots of the app on my phone showing that it did display that information. Since then I have been ignored.
I have repeatedly requested via email that Rehlko Support escalate my complaint to the appropriate Director, requesting his/her acknowledgement. All I have heard is silence.
As such, I am being "generous" by leaving a three-star review. The generator itself is well-designed, and it is far superior to the former Generac that I owned. Parts do fail, but there is no excuse for deficient support. Neither Kohler, nor Rehlko, give away these generators. They are very expensive to purchase and install.
I WILL update this review and perhaps change my rating, if I ever hear again from Rehlko Support and the appropriate Director. In the meantime, potential and existing customers should be aware that the support is not as good as it was when it was under the Kohler brand name. I know, because Kohler Support was very attentive to a previous 2021 complaint and help me resolve my issues.
