Been a loyal customer for 2.5 years now. Originally learned Spanish before traveling to Peru and now found a new teacher to learn French with!

WOW! It's horrible!!! Almost impossible to cancel/delete your subscription. It's not even immediate. The whole idea is horrible as well, they are just offering private lessons like iTalki. I wouldn't even say it's cheap.

I have used Rype for 2 years. I have both good experiences and bad experiences!
Their customer service is so so. They're not so helpful.
Their marketing and mindset are great. A lot of meaningful and motivational articles.
Their teachers: Some are really cool and awesome. I have great moments with them. Some are so so. Not all of them are native.
Their billing system is bad. They charged me a lot for no reason and refused to refund. Sometimes they charged me twice per month!!! I tried to ask why their customer support is not so good, so you know the result.

Buyer beware Rype is a total scam I canceled within the trial period and they refused to refund the amount of over $569.00. Don’t waste your time it’s not worth it you are not getting what you pay for with Rype. I used the service during the trail Rype still charged my credit card after I tried to cancel. They make it very difficult to cancel.

I got a refund from my bank after I filed a dispute but not from Rype which has a ZERO refund policy. I tried the service and canceled I requested a refund from the company and Cynthia emailed me several times stating they couldn’t refund over $500. The instructions had very poor English skills and were very fluent in English therefore it was difficult to learn a new language. Rype isn’t a good company in my opinion. I tried to work with the company and they refused. They only offered a refund AFTER I posted a negative review.

I signed up for a 7-day trial period with Rype in late December 2019. I signed up for several classes with two teachers. One of them repeatedly didn't show up for my classes. Within three days of signing up for the trial period, I went on the website to cancel my trial. I canceled the membership both via an email communication sent via Rype's website and via the "cancel membership" button on the billing page. I never booked a class since. I assumed that was the end of the matter. To my surprise, a few days later, Rype charged my credit card over $500! Their webpage states that they have a "no refund" policy. I filed a complaint with the BBB (which has a record of several other complaints regarding Rype's questionable billing practice). Be very careful with this company.

I have been impressed with the quality of the language coaches on Rype. I say "coaches" instead of tutors because this system is made for those who are motivated to learn a new language and can do some independent study. The coaches provide lots of resources and activities for you to practice. They are professional, yet approachable and friendly.

I chose Rype because it is cheaper than many other options. Rype has been a convenient way to get one-on-one language lessons for my busy schedule. I like to have my sessions first thing in the morning. It's a great kick-off to the day and helps me feel like I've accomplished something before the start of the day. The language coaches live all over the world, which I actually prefer because I can book sessions outside of the usual 9-5 hours for my timezone.

I am generally satisfied with Rype's customer service. I wish they had a phone number to call, but they are always very responsive to messages.

The website itself is easy to navigate and aesthetically pleasing. Rype is a great resource, I highly recommend it for motivated learners who don't need to be spoon fed. Be sure to shop around and find the coach who works best with your schedule and learning style.

A great service

I started with Rype for Spanish in November 2016, so about 3 years. It is amazing as I have a class everyday for the 3 years, rarely taking a day off. It is very convenient as I can do it at home without having to travel to a class, so even though I have a hectic work life, I had been able to keep at it and not give up. It is the consistency that works for me. In addition, there are many teachers so you can always find one that jives with you and accomodate your hours. Some of the teachers become like friends as you do share a lot about your life. You then come to realize that people of all languages and culture are fundamentally similar. I will continue using Rype to learn other languages. There is no better way to learn a language than rype. But of course your success is also highly dependent on your dedication and motivation but the good thing about rype is you get personal one on one attention and go at the speed you prefer... it is all up to you. Overall, I highly recommend rype.

The problem with self-study language methods is that one is learning a language in a "sandbox". The situations and vocabulary used are a small subset of what one encounters in the real world. Having a human tutor takes one out of the sandbox and into the real world. Rype makes this affordable.

Being subscription based is an incentive for me to schedule regular lessons and get my money's worth. Also, Rype has been responsive to any questions that I have or any problems with the subscription. It is also possible to "pause" the subscription if there are times when it is not possible to schedule lessons.

Improvements? The descriptions of the instructors is very basic and consists of a short paragraph composed by the tutor. A standardized outline of credentials, methods used, and any familiarity with self-study methods (to ease the transition out of the sandbox) would be helpful when selecting a tutor.

I have been using Rype for over a year now & love the teachers I have worked with. One in particular Dasha, who teaches Russian, is wonderful. When I found her I stayed with her for a year now. She made learning Russian fun!
The only reason I didn't give Rype 5 stars is because the website needs work. It gets stuck & is slow moving from page to page. Sometimes I have to log out & back in a few times to get it to work properly which can be frustrating when booking your classes.
Other than that Rype is a great way to learn new languages from the comfort of your home!

I have been able to greatly improve my Chinese speaking with competent teachers thanks to the Rype platform. Their subscription-based system permits you to take classes multiple times per week and helps you to create healthy learning habits. Definitely worth the money if you are comited to improve your speaking skills in any language!

I think Rype is a great chance to learn any language with a teacher all over the world. It's quick and effective way to have lessons any time and any place, find your personal language coach who can create a learning outline for you and lead you through the maze of language to success. So, Rype is good for you if you're busy but want to start speaking English/German/French in a short time, prepare for exams or interview or develop your conversational skills.

Every day I speak Spanish for half an hour. That’s huge. Even while traveling in a Spanish-speaking country, I never had that much opportunity to practice. With Rype, I’m speaking with pleasant, professional teachers who have become my friends over the past year and a half. We have a connection, and that is something you can never get from a computer drill. People think they’ll learn by doing quizzes on a website! Such a bad idea, as the motivation will disappear fast. But I am very motivated! I am learning from human beings, in a human, natural way. I talk about my day, my plans, my travels, the party I went to, and every day my vocabulary increases because I’m motivated to express myself. Speaking one-on-one with teachers is the way to go. When I started Rype, I had university Spanish, but after 20 years, I could barely express myself. Now I actually speak Spanish, with confidence and speed, and I look forward to my appointments every day.

Rype has developed and improved a lot in that time
Initially the interface and booking system was clunky and not very user friendly. It is now much improved and it’s easier to tell what teachers are available when. It’s still not perfect to my way of thinking but it is workable.
When I started you were limited to one language, now you could have one lesson a week in 7 languages if you wish ( not that I would recommend it)
The teachers that were on the list 2.5 years ago seem, by and large, to still be in the list, so there would appear to be low staff turnover which is key. In addition the number of teachers available has grown considerably in that time.
I find the quality of the teachers to be good. They all have their own style so you will need to try a few out before you find a good match for you
I use Rype mainly for learning the spoken language, but the teachers seem to be really flexible so will tailor their approach to suit your needs. I know my French teacher Jonathan has studied complex telecommunication documents for a student to help them with a job in France for example.

I think it is good value for money. I have a half hour lesson every day if possible, 3 Spanish and 4 French. I am a bit lazy and do very little apart from these lessons otherwise I am sure I would be much better.
A recent holiday in France proved to me that I could hold my own, have a conversation and be complemented on my French.

I was a little worried about starting a new Language from scratch as I hadn’t done that since I was about 12, but Uly got me conversing from lesson one. I know I could progress much quicker with a bit more effort from myself, nevertheless, I am pleased with how things are going.

As for areas for improvement:
Perhaps there could be a database with videos explaining complex grammar points, vocab tools and listening comprehension along with transcripts and translations in support of the tutors, as good comprehensible input is hard to find, particularly for beginners. Hopefully this is an area they can focus on going forward

All in all very pleased with Rype

I love the site, it’s been invaluable in my language learning process, I find it to be really worth it personally. However, it could use some improvements with the functionality of the actual scheduling site. It’s a source of frustration for me.

Excellent teachers and attentive website support team. Rype's staff is very attentive and replies to emails quickly. I have found some very high quality teachers on the site, and scheduling is very easy. The system works really well now, the communication has gotten much better between teachers and students over the last year, (there were some bumps at the beginning) and I can tell Rype is working hard to make things run smoothly. Most importantly, I'm making progress in my learning.

Rype is an incredible language service. The best value for many and has a wide array of languages available. I highly recommend this to language learners of any level.

Rype is a SCAM. You will be able to sign up for free trials but they will request your payment. It will be difficult to unsubscribe and you will find that you have been locked into costly repeat payments. Stay away.

Subscription traps are common with gyms, music and video streaming services and delivery services and now it has reached online language learning.

I have greatly benefitted from using Rype for my French classes as I've been fortunate enough to find good teachers.

Not all who teach are good at it, some are still learning. So one must find the teachers that suit them the best.

I try to have at least 2 to 3 teachers I can use. Each one of them gives me a different experience.

The most important thing to remember is that you have the power to make this experience worth it.

The only reason I'm not giving a 5-star rating is that there is always room from improvement.

As I said before, the teachers I have are good, but I've had some that were not, and it made me wonder how they were even teaching.

I had one that I liked very much and he was very good, but he left because of issues with Rype.

Overall, however, the experience has been good and I keep learning French.

Rype is a great and safe platform to teach Spanish, the lesson time is quite comfortable and can be a good way to make extra money
