See.Sense ICON 3 Light Review
See.Sense ICON 3 Light Review: Premium Price, Persistent Failure
The See.Sense ICON 3 light markets itself as a premium, intelligent cycling accessory. In reality, it’s a frustratingly unreliable product wrapped in slick branding and an unjustified price tag.
The most glaring issue is a fundamental failure in basic functionality: charging. Not once, not twice, but repeatedly. Even after receiving a replacement unit, the exact same problem reoccurred - an unmistakable sign of a systemic design flaw rather than bad luck.
Worse still, charging behavior is erratic and unpredictable. The light appears to work only with very specific cables or power sources, refusing to charge via common setups like a USB-C hub. This isn’t just inconvenient, it’s unacceptable for a modern USB-C device, a standard that is supposed to guarantee compatibility and ease of use.
Customer support, while polite, ultimately offers little more than a loop of returns and replacements. I was even charged for a replacement because it was just out of warranty.
After multiple failures, the burden shifts onto the customer to repeatedly package, ship, and document returns. Hardly the experience you’d expect when paying for a “premium” product.
At its core, the problem is simple - you cannot trust the device to work when you need it. For a bike light that’s a dealbreaker.
The final verdict?
Overpriced, under-engineered, and not fit for purpose.
There are far more reliable options on the market that don’t require trial-and-error charging rituals or repeated returns.
The ICON 3 might look smart, but in practice, it’s little more than expensive, unreliable tat.
Avoid
Supported Seesense for years as a UK company, crowdfunded several bike lights. The latest Agile light has been an utter nightmare for them. 2 years on I'm still waiting for my lights. Seesense simply cannot compete with others in the market. Avoid.
Don't waste your data uploads
Used the app to log various issues including dangerous intersection, cycling incidents. When a serious incident happened to me, I followed up to see if the government or council had been notified. I was informed they only send data on request from the government..... As if that is ever gonna happen.... Maybe in 5 years when most of the information will no longer be realivent.
Terrible DESPICABLE!
Terrible brand, terrible quality, terrible delivery, despicable, commerce this is purely a fraudulent website that I would not recommend you first take 3 to 4 weeks for it to arrive. It doesn’t arrive fully as an order. The quality is cheap. The sizes make no sense for the same size rate. The items that I bought were either way too small like extra small or extra large for medium size that I ordered conditions to send back, your products are ridiculous and when the after cell service feels overwhelmed, they stop replying to you please if you want to believe something in 2026 do not order from this company.
100% failure rate in wet riding conditions
I have used 3 See Sense products (Ace, Icon 3 and Beam+). All of these items have failed due to water damage in wet riding conditions. Given the premium price tag for their equipment, these consistent failures are unacceptable. Customer service was also non-existent, with their COO Richard advising that I place the light in a warm, dry location and hope it dries out. I was also advised my Icon 3 could not be replaced because they no longer sell the product, despite it still being listed on their website.
These products are needed in wet, dark conditions, and unfortunately they fail to stand-up to the elements.
I'd advise those in the market for reliable bike lights to look elsewhere.
This is my second icon 3 light as the…
This is my second icon 3 light as the first stopped charging. I don't cycle very much, twice three times a week but battery life is poor. I would expect expensive lights to give several hours of charge. Always needs recharging and have been caught without a light while riding. Cheaper lights often last longer. When working they are good but I find the mounting on stems to be poor. For the price it's a no no.

Been waiting 24 months now for the AGILE rear light still not arrived as off today.
Very poor service.
Expensive but worth it!
I've been using the See sense range of lights since 2017, I've had every model and they've served me well during my ~300km p/w commutes and longer weekend spins.
Yes I've had problems and even lost some of the earlier models however their lights keep getting better and better. And I've been very impressed with their customer care and issue resolution. We've a 570km through the night spin planed and I wouldn't use anything else.
My 4 Year Wait (still waiting)
On the 22/2/2021 I ordered at £89 an Air Tracking Device for my new expensive bicycle. On the 5/3/21, I received an email informing me they were having problems with the reliability of the GPS positioning.
Next email on the 29/4/21 informing me they were moving back to the LTE network.
Next email arrives on the 30/6/21 informing me that there was a global issue with microchips.
Next email on the 17/9/21 informing me it was almost ready for dispatch but was trying to make it smaller.
Next email on the 16/11/21 stating it will be ready by early 2022.
Next email a year later on the 7/11/22 stating still trying to make it smaller and have changed the name from Air to Knowhere (quite appropriate).
The next 3 emails on the 7/3/23 , 12/5/23 , 20/10/23 all stating they were testing the device.
Next email on the 14/3/2024 stating they were having battery problems.
Not having heard anything on the 19/2/2025 I wrote to See Sense demanding my money back (no response).
On the 4/3/25 and 16/3/25 I emailed the company demanding my money back (no response) surprise surprise !!!!!
Have phoned twice only to be told by voicemail to communicate by email --- (just a vicious circle)
If anybody deserves to have mental issues it should be me !!!
My advice to anybody wanting to purchase anything from this company BE VERY PATIENT ---------- update today 23/05/25 --after several emails back and forth I have finally received my £89 back into my paypal account with apologies for delay ---- they have had my £89 for over 4 yrs multiply that several hundred people at least -- interest on that mindblowing - NICE LITTLE EARNER.
Not what it used to be?
I've used their lights from the start and have left positive reviews previously. The orginal light from 10 years ago that's operated by rotating it still works. And a recently purchased Beam and ICON 3 are working OK although it's early days. But the ones bought in between gave up charging/holding charge after varying times from a few weeks to a few years. Previously I was reassured by their 'service maintenance' offer - to restore/replace a failed light after the guarantee period for a modest sum. But that seems no longer to be available, having recently tried to take advantage of it for a failed ICON 2. Customer service was less responsive than before, too - it took a few nudges to get answers to my specific questions. So I don't know whether this company and its lights are as good as they used to be.
See sense ICON2 front and rear light mount failure…
See sense ICON2 front and rear light set. Haven't used these much over the last two years but always really impressed with the brightness. However, today, four miles from home, over some bumpy tarmac the rear light popped out of the holder and shattered all over the road. Can't really justify spending a lot of money on a great light with unreliable mounting system. Not much else to say, lesson learned, buy something with reliable mount.
Still waiting from 2019 for a product
I have a number of see. sense products which all work BUT in 2019 I backed a project on Kickstarter for £139 and it’s now 2024 and no product and no updates for over 6 months. Very disappointed
Warranty Not Honoured and £2.75 As A refund - Not Seeing Sense
I was really happy with the Icon3 I got with my British Cycling membership and was disappointed when it stopped working after about six months. I contacted SeeSense and followed their prompt and clear instructions to return the light for inspection and so I had to buy another (inferior) light in the meantime to tide me over as I didn’t want to stop riding whilst waiting for the new light or for the old one to be fixed. I always stated I wanted a replacement/fix as it had a 2 year warranty AND I was very happy with the light. However, SeeSense did not send out a replacement and instead refunded me… £2.75 (which didn’t even cover the postage cost of sending it back to them for inspection). They told me they’d just decided to refund me as ‘I’d already bought another light so assumed I no longer needed a light’ and they didn’t want to send a replacement as ‘it would cause issues further down the line’. I have made BC aware of how their partner organisation is treating their members, especially when having a functioning rear light is paramount to our safety on the road. All I wanted was a like for like replacement for the faulty Icon3. PS the amount of £2.75 was a mystery to me but they said that that was what I had paid for it. However, it was part of my BC membership - the actual value of the light was stated as £79.99 and I had just paid £2.95 to cover the shipping.
Disgusting service, guarantee worthless.
Disgusting service. I have a pair of see.sence ACE lights one has failed within the two Year guarantee period. see.sence will not replace the faulty unit, they stated we do not repair this item and we no longer stock this item, they offered to allow me to have the updated product that retails at £99 for a fantastic discount of only £25. I said no the item is under guarantee, I have no control over their policy to not repair and recycle, I have no control over their policy to stop manufacturer, so I think they should replace my light free of charge. They refused stating the only other option was a refund.
I opted for the refund expecting to get a £75-£99 but all I got was £28 it cost me £6 to return the light and I have not received the refund to date.
Do not buy from this company the guarantee is not worth the paper it’s written on, and I would suggest the £99 lights are only worth £25 or £28.
Icon 3
After my last experience with see.sense products i was sceptical to give them a second chance with the Icon 3, but peer pressured into it i indulged. I have to say, its an excellent light now. Not only did it withstand the Great British downpours the last 6months (the last one couldn’t) its ease of use with the app and the brightness on the road, makes it in my opinion one of the best lights out there now. The battery life on the rear light, for some reason doesn’t last as long as the front. But it still lasts about 4 days with an hours ride each day. Overall, great improvement to the last lights and glad they used previous feedback to improve future products!
Nothing premium but the pricetag
I wish i had taken a moment to look at these reviews before i decided to make a purchase!
You'd be forgiven for thinking that if your going to shell out £100 for a bike light, your premium product would not only arrive on time (especially when you have paid extra on top of the £100 for faster delivery) but that the customer service experience would be as premium as the products they are pushing.
You'd be forgiven but wrong on both counts.
Ordered on the wednesday for delivery within 48hrs. Friday when i call them they tell me its not been sent. Ive not been furnished with a reason for that. No other offer to remedy the situation, not even an apology. Their best effort at good customer service was to refund the cost of delivery which was somerhing i told them they would be doing to start with and they offered to cancel the order.
Had they offered an apology, refunded my delivery costs and sent me my item special next day delivery at their cost i would have been cool about it. That would be in line with the premium customer service that one would expect with their premium product.
However as i got below average customer service i didnt hesitate for the refund.
If they can afford to be losing customers in these economic times good luck to them but my advice to them is to fix up and advice to the rest of you - there are really good products out there a fraction of the pricetag these jokers are charging and i bet the customer service is superior too. Go shop.
Buyer Beware - Icon 3 and Beam+ Great products however ...
Many reviews are left soon after purchase and are unrealistic about the actual usage of the product day in and day out. So six months on here are my thoughts.
Icon 3 rear light: I'd like to say that I love this light. I used it for a 650-mile ride and it had plenty of battery power to go. However, although it has many features these are rest EVERY time you charge the light which means going back into the app and recalling your settings. In addition to this, the rubber around the light switch has come away with no sign of any adhesive.
Bean+: This is another great product which has allowed me to get rid of a bulky T9 CREE and associated battery pack, however, the Garmin-style mount allows the unit to rattle about and required modification. The Beam settings are not reset on charging.
Customer Service: SeeSense are pretty quick in responding and sending out parts however they give me a feeling that they are not interested in listening to the customer and improving the customer experience of using their products, which is a real shame. There have been offers to refund me however this misses the point.
See sense original, ace & icon3 lights
Always had great experiences with See Sense products, lights and bags etc. Customer support and service when needed has been prompt and courteous.
Some negative reviews here can’t see why
Some negative reviews here, can’t see why. I think these little lights are excellent. Designed primarily as visibility lights, do the job in bright sunlight and winter gloom. My front one became unresponsive after a lot of use in 2 1/2 years and it was replaced instantly, no hassle outside of the warranty. How many other companies do that? I do lots of 100 milers and these lights last all day. They are very clever lights, fairs fair an excellent product.
Unreliable, avoid at all costs
The lights are great until they no longer hold charge and then become completely unresponsive (all in less than a year). For context, I used the Ace front light 0-3 times a week for a 20 minute commute and charged the light whenever it reached ~30% battery. Customer support was kind enough to send a replacement light, but the same issues happened again. Their marketing team loves to say that the lights are "built to last" but they fail to address the actual problem. Instead, they try to satisfy the customer by sending more faulty lights. They even have a support page titled "ACE light is now unresponsive/dead". Their proposed solution is to connect/disconnect the charger cord 3-4 times in quick succession. This is not a solution and the light does not magically come back from the dead. For your own safety, please stay away from this company and their unreliable lights.
