No human customer support available

No human customer support available. I cannot update my details or transfer money to pay bills because of an error stating You don't have a valid account. The mobile number on file is my old number so I can't update any details because of the 2 factor verification. Yet they don't mind my pay being deposited there. All support is BOT and of no help. Been hung up on 4 times, chat doesn't respond for hours and then logs me out. Will be closing my account as soon as I can access my money.

One star is too high

One star is too high, they state they can’t courier a replacement business Visa card to my suburb, then they say they can send to nearest branch, but then that branch is closed for refurbishment for 3 months so they finally find a branch 32k’s away and it will be delivered Tuesday or Wednesday next week and somebody from the branch “might” call me to let me know it’s there. Unbelievably poor customer service, time to change business banking.

St George made 7 billion profit last year but they clearly don't employ enough staff.

Absolutely horrendous

Absolutely horrendous. I was completely unable to make a transfer via either debit card or bank transfer to either an Aus post or wise card. Went into a branch and also spent hours on calls. They’re blaming the other apps, the apps are blaming St George. But no one has been able to sort it out.

I was with St George bank for 45 years. I finally closed my account with them in early 2026.
I have never experienced the elevel of incompetence,
staff ignorance , technical antiquity or know how that
St George sunk to in the lasy 10 years. They cost me
endless stress, failure of OTC's causing loss, i endured blatent contradiction for ignorant untrained staff and
paralytic attendance to any urgent request.
I give them a minus 5 stars for the worst business I have ever endured.

Worst bank I’ve dealt with.

This is the worst bank I’ve ever dealt with — St. George Bank has been an absolute nightmare to deal with.

I’ve been trying to resolve a refund issue for months, and despite repeated attempts to get help, nothing has been resolved. Every time I call, I’m routed to overseas call centres where staff are unable to properly assist or take ownership of the situation. I’m left going in circles with no outcome.

On top of that, their communication systems appear to be completely broken. They keep insisting they’ll email me, but I’m not receiving anything. I’ve explained this multiple times, and even provided an alternative email address — still nothing comes through. At this point, it’s clear the issue is on their end, yet they continue to rely on a system that simply isn’t working.

Because of this, I haven’t been able to provide evidence or properly follow up on my case, which has completely stalled any progress.

As a result, I’ve gone without money that I am owed for months, which is incredibly stressful and unacceptable.

A bank should provide reliable support and clear communication, especially when it comes to customers’ finances. Unfortunately, this has been the exact opposite of my experience.

I would strongly recommend others think twice before banking with St. George.

No tech team to correct errors

When you dispute a transaction, it does not give you the option of uploading the documents for evidence. You have to wait several days and then they send you a text message about 1am or 6am to say they have sent you an email with further instructions. I currently have 2 disputes and get the text messages but I am not receiving any of the emails, I have to call them each time to ask what the update is.

When I call, I have to explain the situation each time and the staff always ask have I checked my junk email folder despite me telling them already that I have, they make me jump through hoops to identify myself and they usually refuse to let me speak to a supervisor.

It is an incredibly frustrating procedure and St George Bank claim that they do not have a tech department but it is apparently a huge secret as to who maintains their app, website etc. There is apparently not one person at St George bank who is able to fix the issue of me not receiving their dispute updates via email.

A supervisor named Jasmine is currently handling my case and she phoned me tonight at 10.16pm tonight! So I get woken up at 5am on a saturday morning, 6am on a sunday morning, 12.55am on a work night etc with irrelevant SMS notifications for emails that I never receive!

I have been with St George for about 30 years but once my current disputes are finalised, I will be changing banks over this issue. I am sick of it and as they claim they do not have a tech team who can fix it, I am not prepared to go through this again. I will be opening a new account with Suncorp Bank tomorrow and transfering over everything and once everything is transferred over then I am leaving St George. These staff get paid to talk to me on the phone, I have been offered nothing except for lame apologies for waking me up at ridiculous hours and spending hours having to contact them for updates.

I feel like I am being ganged up upon by the retailer who ripped me off and by St George who refuse to fix this known issue. I have an account with Suncorp for savivg and have never felt bullied by them.

Long-term customer treated poorly during fraud incident

I’ve been a St George customer for over 40 years, across multiple accounts and home loans, and this is easily the worst customer experience I’ve had with any financial institution.

I identified a series of unauthorised transactions on my account and contacted St George to report what is clearly a fraud matter. Instead of being handled appropriately, I received incorrect advice suggesting I would need to resolve this with PayPal simply because I have used their service before.

I experienced multiple wait times exceeding 30 minutes, was denied escalation when requested, and most recently had a call disconnected halfway through the verification process with no follow-up.

To make matters worse, my formal complaint was closed without any meaningful engagement or attempt to resolve the issue.

For a bank of this size, this reflects serious issues in staff training, complaint handling, and basic customer care. Long-term customers should not be treated this way, particularly when reporting fraud.

I have now been forced to escalate this matter externally.

I can’t speak to a human being

I have a new phone number. I’ve been able to call every bank and speak to a human and update it so I can login with their two factor identification. Not St George! I’ve been on the phone all morning and the automated woman keeps hanging up on me telling me to login on the chat! I can’t login because I have new number! I’ve had to call the fraud hotline because I can’t reach a human being! I’m so disgusted! I will be paying my credit card and cancelling this card!

If I could give them a lower rating I…

If I could give them a lower rating I would.

Review:
I am currently overseas, locked out of my accounts, and St. George’s support is a complete shambles. I have no physical card or Customer Access Number on me, and the bank’s "security" process is a joke that defies basic logic.

When I called for help, I was asked for the date of my last login. When I told them I didn’t know because it had been a long time, the representative actually told me to “log in and check the top of the screen.” I am calling because I AM LOCKED OUT. How can your staff be this poorly trained?

Furthermore, I am expected to know the exact cent-perfect balance for one specific account out of the nine I hold with the bank—all from memory, while stressed, on an international call.

I spent a fortune on roaming charges just to receive a SMS PIN on my Australian SIM, only to be told after passing the PIN check that I "failed" an ID check anyway and to "call back in 24 hours." No explanation, no help, just a 24-hour lockout while I am stranded without access to my own money.

I’ve been passed from department to department, held for hours, and dealt with staff who have no idea why I was even transferred to them because no one bothers to leave notes.

If you are an international traveler, DO NOT bank with St. George. Their systems are not built for the real world, and their "support" is a loop of automated frustration.

They cut me off overseas. A clinical trial company texted me. St.George couldn't be bothered.

I've been a St.George customer for years. They blocked my card while I'm living in the Philippines—no warning, no notification, no human contact.

I have severe CPTSD. I'm a pensioner. I was stranded without access to my own money. A friend had to bail me out via Western Union.

Here's what's truly embarrassing for them:

On the same day they finally acknowledged my complaint via the app store, Nucleus Network—a clinical trial company—texted me proactively. No issue. My number works. I'm contactable.

St.George had my phone, my email, my app. They chose silence.

Meanwhile, a recurring Crunchie Roll payment via PayPal went through during the "block." So the block is selective. Arbitrary. Incompetent.

They failed a vulnerable customer overseas. No duty of care. No communication. No accountability.

If a private research company can text me, a bank can too. They just didn't want to.

Avoid if you value your sanity—or ever plan to leave the country.

Terrible. No excuses for a banking experience this shit in 2026.

Couldn't do something in the app as simple as create an automatic payment on my credit card balance. Had to go into a branch to drop off a form.

They then still needed more information from me, so I had to call their useless call centre. After being transferred twice and on hold for 30 minutes, the phone call randomly disconnected. Twice!

Do not use this god awful bank. I'll be cancelling my card as soon as I can.

Awful customer service

Second time in a year that large fraudulent transactions have appeared on my account. St George never detected it, I noticed it on both occasions. Customer service appallingly slow and inefficient. Will definitely switch to ANZ or Commbank. St George - never again.

I called to report various fraud transactions on my visa credit card - no lost card or any negligence on my behalf. This was the worst and most unprofessional experience I have ever had. The communication was atrocious.
While my issue is being resolved (I think...?) this is making me consider moving banks...after being a customer for over 20 years

THE ST. GEORGE BANK "SECURITY"

THE ST. GEORGE BANK
FROM A CUSTOMER OF 30+ YEARS

On 02 February I attempted to make a bPay payments for a bill I have received every year for the last twenty years and have paid without any issues. This time however I was asked to enter an authentication code which would be sent via SMS. The SMS never arrived so I press "send again" and it again doesn't arrive. I press "send again" and it still doesn't arrive and then I'm locked out of my account!

After hours and hours on the phone I have failed to have access to my bank account of more than 30 years restored because apparently I've failed the facial recognition test despite the fact I have just done the same test on my facial recognition software without any issues.

My question was, when I was able to eventually get through, if you have changed your procedures regarding bpay payments why did you not tell your customers because if that had been the case there is no way I would have tried three times?

After failing the facial recognition test I am told I have to go to a branch but unfortunately due to illness I am unable to attend.

Despite explaining this to the consultant all she kept repeating ad nauseum was you must go to the nearest branch. It was like talking to a brick wall. No empathy just pure stubbornness on the altar of security. No alternatives offered. Nothing. Go to the branch the only option. What happens if your overseas and like me fail the facial recognition test? In hospital. Incapacitated.

The Fraud Section of the St. George Bank is not the solution. It's the problem.

I have never experienced such a monumental stuff up and if this is the way St. George treat customers then they need to have a good hard look at their procedures and systems.

I asked one of the consultants yesterday that why were we not advised that before attempting the third time to make a payment that we would be locked out of our account the response was security considerations.

What absolute rubbish.

Any scammers would know that but unfortunately the poor bloody customer has no idea. Never told. How hard would that have been. Why was this advice not given online before your third attempt.

So now here I am two days down the track, unbelievably stressed and spending hours upon hours talking to very unsympathetic staff and still can't get into my account to access my account and my money.

Disgusting, inexcusable and in my experience unprecedented. The worst customer experience in my 76 years on the planet.

Absolutely worst !!!! I made a payment through bsb account and it said processing for days and when I asked for help in a chat they blocked my account and made me go to bank to verify myself!! Even the bank had to contact and talk to them to unblock it which took an hour to get my account unblocked !! I had one issue but gave me more !!! The customer service is worst which was rude !!! My exact question was “Why is it processing?? How long will it take “ and the customer service replied “we cannot help call …number and end the chat right away “!! Why would you even would even say that !! Can’t help then don’t make a help chat and if you cannot you should have someone else too this conversation was so simple yet made it so rude !!!never ever recommend !! I will choose any bai other than St George

St George are scammers, grubby money hungry scammers

St George locked our account because we transferred a large sum. We were able to verify ourselves, prove where the funds came from with correspondence from our other bank and made a complaint.

The had varying reasons why they did this, the reasons changed over time. Their fraud team needs a wake up call! They want to protect you from scammers but they are the ones doing the scamming! What a way to keep money in their bank for as long as they can.

The worst thing is we were going to open a term deposit with them as well, but they kinda stuffed that up didn't they. I hope their fraud team takes a chill pill and stop locking people out of their accounts without evidence of actual fraud.
