We have just returned from a two week holiday in Vale do Lobo.

The villa we selected was advertised on a number of sites, and we decided to book through Sun-hat having had such a positive experience on a previous holiday.

We dealt with Ann, Lily-Mae and Robyn during the booking process, and all three were extremely helpful. The whole process was very easy, and we again found the Sun-hat app informative. Any questions we had by email were also answered very promptly.

The Villa was everything we had hoped for. It was very well equipped and in a great location. Our only suggestion regarding the villa would be to add some soft furnishings to help reduce the echoes, and where TVs have been removed from the bedrooms and pictures taken down from the walls, to provide something to cover the exposed sockets and holes.

However unfortunately on the day we arrived construction work started just a few doors down in the demolition of a villa.

The work started at 8am and continued throughout the full two weeks of our stay.
On some days the noise was extremely loud and it did disrupt our holiday.

We did consider contacting Sun-hat to ask whether it would be possible to move to another property. However, we have been visiting VDL for many years and had specifically chosen this location. We also loved the villa itself and by that point had settled in.

Overall, we were very happy with the villa and the service from Sun-hat through the booking process, but the construction noise had a negative impact on our enjoyment of the property. Had we known about the demolition and the level of noise beforehand we may have made a different choice of Villa.

We will book through Sun-hat again but will look for awareness of any nearby construction.

Great villa in a convenient location.. Short walk to VDL Praca & beach. Villa was as described with everything we required. Pool area was great for us with the sun shone all day. Villa was clean and well appointed. Our on site rep was available and reached out a few times.

Seamless booking experience, incredibly helpful staff on arrival and throughout our stay.The house manager, Silvia, provided us with an extremely thoughtful arrival package, much appreciated. The local rep, Tina, stopped by to introduce herself and made us aware she was always available should we need her for anything, lovely friendly lady. Beautiful apartment, great area, there was some construction going on locally but we had been informed of this at booking and given a discount in consideration - didn’t affect us too much as we were out the vast majority of the day anyways and everything else was exactly as expected and what we needed.

Pool which made it more enjoyable as it was very hot, everything was clean, spacious, washing machine and other appliances which was great, beds a bit uncomfortable but only there for 1 week so was ok
The air con in one bedroom wouldn’t work but we put a fan out of living room in there so all was good

Villa Phoenix in Vale do Lobo

We booked through Sun-hat Villas having rented through a competitor for the last 5-6 years and being left fairly underwhelmed by their increasing prices and customer service.

The booking process and lead up to our trip:

We booked through a lady called Ann. The process was easy, we were given quotes for multiple villas and then left, without pressure, to make our decision and book. The villas were far more reasonably priced than the competitor.

The App is very useful and I cannot fault the booking process or the communication leading up to our trip.

The Sun-hat Villas Rep:

We were looked after by Tina. She was great! We had a couple of minor issues with the Villa (air-con not working and BBQ very old). These were handled very well and quickly by her without us ever feeling like it was too much trouble.

We then had some major construction work appear to be starting next door but 1 to us. When I raised this with Tina she again went away and came back with potential solutions, not even a hint of a “nothing I can do” attitude. This resulted in us being offered a switch to an alternative Villa, but in the end we decided to take a chance and stay put. I am incredibly grateful to Tina and SHV for the way this was handled.

The Villa:

The only reason I am not leaving a 5 star review is because the Villa did not reflect the pictures used. Villa Phoenix could be a beautiful Villa, in fact it is, but it is unloved. I believe it was once someone’s pride and joy, but it is not now.

The comfy rattan seating on the patio wasn’t there, the sun loungers etc. on the balcony were not there, the bush between the swimming pool area and pool table was very overgrown, the cushions on the dining table seats were ripped, the outdoor dining table etc. is now very tatty and unsturdy, no bar stools in the kitchen, water damage to the kitchen units under the fridges, lots of tiles missing from the pool - some leaving sharp edges.

None of these things necessarily impacted our stay, but I would urge Sun-hat Villas to undertake more stringent checks on the properties they rent out and compare the reality to the pictures they are using, and, more importantly hold their owners accountable for the upkeep of these properties to a standard in keeping with what is advertised.

Overall view:

We would use Sun-hat Villas again, I would request (if possible) to be looked after by Tina, and I would want to know how old the pictures are on the Villa adverts, with more up to date pictures being requested first.

Fabulous holiday in Palmyra with our grown up children. We absolutely loved the villa, which is fully equipped for a perfect stay. Whilst we ate out most nights, the kitchen was fully stocked to host a lovely meal for the 8 of us. I would thoroughly recommend it to friends and family and we will be back!

We have absolutely no complains about Sunhat. From start to finish they were patient, instantly helpful and true to their word. Our villa was amazing. The best we have ever stayed in. The location of the villa was perfect as it was quiet but within a very short walk of the coast and town. We loved every minute.

Sunhat villas have been exceptional from start to finish. Each UK rep I’ve dealt with was kind and so helpful. They even arranged for non slip bathmats to be purchased for the stay for our kids.

The apartment itself was like a second home and perfect for small families like ours. The maids and pool cleaners came twice during our weeks stay.

We will 100% be using sunhat villas again in the future and have already recommended to lots of family.

Our family think Sun-hats have cracked it. Lots of care and attention, always there for advice when a problem occurs. Love the attention during our stay cleaners very attentive and the pool and gardens looked impressive.

Would use Sun Hat again this is our second year and they are brilliant. So easy to deal with if you have any issues. The im resort team are also great. We had problems with power and was fixed very quickly.

Sat-Hat were as easy to use this time as they were in 2024. Sam, the rep, was on site and available even though we didn’t need her. The information provided by Sun-Hat on their app would be very helpful to those that don’t know the area as well as we do. I would definitely book with them again and recommend them to others.

Roseanna and the Sun-hat team provide an extremely friendly and personal service, much better than just using an internet provider. We stayed in Villa Jasper, Vale do Lobo with teenagers. The Villa met all our needs. Would highly recommend.

We stayed at Villa Katy in Quinta do Lago in August and were very disappointed with the standard of the property.

While we could have overlooked the dated décor and furnishings, the damp in the basement was a much more serious issue. There are two bedrooms downstairs, and the strong damp smell and condition of the walls made it difficult for my son to sleep there comfortably.

We contacted Sun Hat and asked them to raise the issue with the owners, but unfortunately we received no response. This was particularly disappointing given the nature of the problem. Even a simple phone call to acknowledge our concerns and apologise would have made a significant difference, but this was not forthcoming.

This is an expensive villa, and unfortunately we don't feel that the standard reflects what we would expect from a property represented by Sun Hat. We would strongly recommend that the villa is inspected thoroughly, particularly the basement bedrooms, before it is offered to guests again.

Overall, a very disappointing experience and not the standard we expected.

Excellent service from Sun-hat Villas from start to finish. Staff very helpful throughout the selection and booking period of this villa. Kept updated at every stage . Very professional staff who care about their clients and go overboard to ensure there are no problems encountered. The selection of villas to choose from was huge and villas available to fit everyone's budget. The one I selected, Villa Eska, was immaculate, very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Arrival and departure arrangements were clear and concise and villa management assistance always available if needed. I cannot fault Sun-hat Villas in any way.

Our experience with sun hat villas has been excellent from start to finish. We received a great pack which included accommodation and location information as well as emails following this up. We also had a few messages from Sam before hand regarding her info if we needed her at any time during our stay and she also came to check in after a day or two which I thought was a really nice touch. Our apartment was in a great location and it was clean and tidy. We really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend to family and friends!

Sun-Hat Villas & Resorts make you feel valued as a customer from start to finish. Their staff are knowledgeable and work hard to find you what you want for your holiday. We had a significant water leak issue at our gorgeous villa in Portugal. Chris, our Sun-Hat in country rep, answered the phone immediately and had it all sorted with the house owner and a plumber pretty instantly. Within a couple of hours it was like it never happened. This is the mark of a good company; not that there are never problems, but how those problems are dealt with. Their range and quality of accommodation is excellent. You can rest assured the villas or resorts under their banner will be prime. This is not a shot in the dark holiday accommodation site; it’s well chosen, well looked after property.
Having a Sun-Hat rep do a lot of the leg work on finding us a holiday rental home is one of the main reasons for coming back to them again. As I said to my husband this year, when we were dithering on where and when to go on holiday, ‘if Sun-Hat don’t go there then neither are we’. But luckily they have a lot of choice, even for last minute bookers like us. Great staff + great accommodation = great company. sun-Hat is a brand to be trusted.

The staff are friendly and responsive, nothing is too much trouble. We have been booking our annual holidays through Sunhat for about 8 years now and wouldn’t go anywhere else.
