One star. We engaged Think Local Search to optimise our Google Business Profile and get us ranking in the map pack. Three months in, on the search terms that actually carry volume and would bring us work, we sat essentially where we started. No meaningful movement. What did appear in the monthly reports were rankings on long tail phrases with little or no search volume at all, the kind that pair a niche descriptor with a tiny locality. Several of them return 0 to 10 searches a month in Google's own Keyword Planner. Ranking 1st for a term nobody searches is a billboard in the middle of the desert.

I understand this work takes time and three months is not long. That is not my complaint. My complaint is that the reporting was built around the terms that were easiest to win rather than the terms that mattered. When I raised it I had several 45 minute calls with different staff members and nothing I raised was taken seriously. The entire conversation felt like I was being gaslit. Questions I had already asked were answered as though I had never asked them.

One last thing. This is a company that optimises Google Business Profiles for a living. At the time of writing I cannot find a Google Business Profile for them anywhere. Searching their name or their phone number in Google Maps returns nothing. Make of that what you will.

Since posting this review the company flagged it as defamatory, and raised the prospect of legal action with me directly over the phone. Trustpilot assessed the content and reinstated the review. I would encourage anyone reading a 4.7 or 4.9 average on a platform to consider what happens to the reviews that don't fit it…
