Altas America plan denied
I took this Altas America plan for my in laws and they said it would be covered for covid. My wife’s dad got the virus and was not doing good. We took him to the hospital ad he had to be admitted and isolated. He had to stay for 15 days and needed a lot of medical attention. The whole ordeal was terrible and took a number on us. When it was over, we had to pay for everything on our own. I took it up with them and was told it was not covered that my claim was being denied. Why, because its caused by underlying preexisting conditions form previous visit. That was over 2 years ago that shouldn’t even be applicable. This was the worst experience ever and I’ve used them for a while never again I’m definitely looking for better options next visit.

I had used visitorscoverage.com website for buying insurance for my parents and in-laws over the past several years. This review is not directly intended for the website but for a plan they include in their list - Atlas America which is provided by Tokio Marine HCC. This plan is a hoax and should be immediately dropped from the website's list of suggested insurance providers. I had to take my mother-in-law for a doctor's visit since she got the flu. The doctor ordered some follow up visits and lab work just to ensure she did not have anything related to pre-existing conditions. All tests came out negative. Atlas America still continues to deny the claims citing pre-existing conditions. We sent them all lab reports, doctor's notes and followed up with a letter directly from the doctor (2 rounds of appeals). They continue to deny the claim. There is no way to be able to talk the person who is actually making this decision. I strongly hope that the licenses for this insurance company is immediately terminated by the state of Indiana so that others don't have to go through the same ordeal. I am going to report about this plan to BBB and am strongly considering taking them to small claims court.

My parents were visiting me overseas and my father had to go to the hospital in Vienna he then got transferred to an ICU hospital.
Tokio Marine denied my claim and the hospitals claim, stating that it was a pre-existing condition, which it was not. My father died and I have been appealing this claim for almost a year, I have letters from the doctors and all of the necessary documentation. I have officially filed a complaint with the Indiana Department of Insurance and hopefully there will be a resolution shortly. I would not recommend this insurance company to anyone.

As a small family haulage company, on recommendation of our broker, we decided to take purchase credit insurance from Tokio Marine HCC (Tokio Marine), on a client who provided a large percentage of our turnover, in the belief that we would be covered in case of Insolvency. I knew that any losses could cripple our business and this was a way I thought of securing our future.
Our client duly entered Administration in late March 2019, a day of disaster and in the past 8 months, I have been fighting Tokio Marine to make full payment as per our policy.
Tokio Marine initially paid around £104,000 (minus Vat and charges) of the claim originally entered by our factoring company, but have refused to pay the balance that now totals around £196,000, because they state that the Administrators have failed to verify the full liability and that they have paid only what the Administrators have stated to be the creditor balances.
However, our client suffered from a fire just prior to Administration and according to the Administrators, they had little up to date information on creditor balances. Therefore, the information they used and have published is months old and completely out of date and not reflective of the company’s true liabilities. The £104,000 is an incorrect balance and Tokio Marine are conveniently relying on old out of date information to refuse to pay out on the bulk our claim.
I am now aware that Tokio Marine have in the last 8 months had no idea that the data used by the Administrators is out of date and months old and so within the last two weeks the Administrators have assisted and have called them to confirm this. Still they refused to make payment to us, stating that unless the Administrators verify the debt, they won’t make payment under the policy.
The Administrators in turn have made it clear that they “have no statutory powers to adjudicate claims” and have stated clearly that “We have no locus in this and are unable to assist”.
To add further to our fury, we have provided Tokio Marine with signed invoices, copies of around 1,500 work tickets, proving that the work was carried out and a statement from our factoring company detailing most of the liability. Despite our documents proving we feel that we carried out the work relating to the outstanding invoices, Tokio Marine have simply stated that these prove nothing.
We recently requested a review of the case and Tokio Marine made claims concerning our failure to provide documents on time. We have subsequently proved that Tokio Marine were wrong and even having supplied copies of the emails proving submission, but they have refused to comment.
The matter has since been sent to the Tokio Marine complaints department who it seems have chosen to totally ignored our representations and have quoted our failure to provide documents on time, despite them having received the emails sent to their claims department proving otherwise.
It appears that whatever information we provide, whatever proof of liability, Tokio Marine will refuse to settle the claim and are using the Administrators as pawns to wriggle out of payment. We have even written to the Tokio Marine Office in the USA, but they have failed to respond.
We have asked Tokio Marine for evidence of where our policy quotes the need for verification by an Administrator or what else they require to prove the liability and have even now offered for independent verification of the debt, as we are confident in the validity of the claim, but they have chosen not to respond to anything where it could lead to the need for payment.
It is completely unfair that a company of this size has chosen to treat us in this way and its has been explained to Tokio Marine that if Mr A owes Mr B money, he cannot justify non-payment by way of Mr C being unable to verify the debt, especially if Mr C makes it clear that he has no information to enable the verification.
This whole episode has nearly cost us our business and has placed immense strain on the company.
I feel that bullied and badly let down by Tokio Marine, who have now told us to go to the Financial Ombudsman if we are unhappy at how we have been treated and it is our plan to do so.
I would not recommend Tokio Marine HCC for credit insurance.

Tokio Marine insurance fully compensated me for the MD visit and medicine, without any trouble. Only the forms to fill out are kind of hard! Payment wasn't "quick" however, it was in the time frame stated. We were very pleased, and plan to use them again when we travel in the future.
Good luck getting help and support my friend got none
On a personal note I, as the friend a lone contrator running a new business. I told him to take out Professional indemnity insurance with this company. Shortly afterwards he had an issue with one of his clients refusing to pay him 3 months notice. His client 's only "get out " of the paying notice was "professional neglegence" When my friend sued the client for non payment, the client sited in his defence that my friend had not "fulfilled in his duties" and was ofsetting the costs he had incurred against the notice pay he owed.
On three previous occasions the client had also stated on emails quite clearly that my friend was "negligent and he would prove it in court"
My friend was told to persue the matter his self in the scottish courts but not to do anything without informing Tokio Marine of every stage of the proceedings, copying them into every email, letter and phone call. My friend was assured that they would pick up the case as soon as the client refused to pay on the grounds of negligence.
Guess what? Tokio Marine run their fingers under the small print. Refuse to assist but still ask to be included in all the proceedings.
My advice is stick with an insurance company who you recognise and one who has a good reputation. Never pay money for a policy with a company who you have never heard of. Also dont take their bullying laying down. Get straight onto the insurance ombudsmen and ask them to investigate. You never know, it might not be the only complaint they have had about the company which you are insured with.
