Serious Concerns About Unison's Publishing Administration After More Than Two Years
As part of an independent record label, our publishing catalogue has been administered by Unison through a distribution partner since 17 February 2023.
Unfortunately, my experience with Unison's publishing administration has been extremely disappointing.
Since 7 February 2024, I have been attempting to resolve serious publishing administration issues affecting our catalogue. For more than two years, I have consistently sought updates and documentation regarding these matters. Although communication has taken place through the distribution partner, the underlying publishing administration has remained the responsibility of Unison.
To date, I have not received verifiable confirmation that the following issues have been resolved:
Approximately 300 musical works that do not appear to be reflected in the relevant repertoire records.
Metadata and authorship corrections that remain impossible to verify.
An IPI assignment request signed in November 2025, without confirmation of the assigned IPI number or evidence that it has been applied to the relevant registrations.
For over two years, the information communicated to me has consistently been that the matters were being reviewed or that updates were pending.
I have not received documentation demonstrating that the registrations, corrections, IPI information, or reporting issues have actually been completed.
When publishing administration remains unresolved for this length of time, it raises serious concerns regarding transparency, follow-through, and the effectiveness of the administration process.
My criticism is directed at Unison's publishing administration, as Unison is the entity responsible for administering our publishing catalogue.
Based on my documented experience, I cannot recommend its publishing administration services to record labels, publishers, or rights holders who rely on accurate registrations, transparent reporting, and timely resolution of administration issues.
