You can be highly specific with your specialism, whether it's in Paediatrics, Emergency Medicine, Anaesthetics, Neonatal Intensive Care, or HIV counselling. Work the World’s placement planning and support service helps you avoid the pitfalls of trying to organise a placement by yourself. This gives you the safety, security, and peace of mind that comes with 24/7 support, and expert clinical supervision. While overseas, you’ll live in one of Work the World’s spacious, social, and secure private houses. Living with other students from a range of countries and healthcare backgrounds creates an atmosphere of friendship and camaraderie like nowhere else. You’ll enjoy meals freshly prepared each day by in-house chefs, as well as the now-famous weekly barbecues. Free language lessons in the house will help you communicate and interact with patients more effectively to get the most out of your placement. Your clinical experience runs from Monday to Friday, leaving your evenings and weekends free for exploration and adventure. Work the World’s expert in-country teams will offer tips for sightseeing and trips that you can take whilst you’re away. You could go on safari in the Serengeti, trek to Everest Base Camp, sunbathe on tropical beaches, and explore ancient mountaintop temples.

I was in Kathmandu undertaking a radiography elective for 2 weeks. Despite my short stay, I had an incredible time and I would definitely recommend Work the World to others!
Before departure from my home country, the team provided me with all the information I would need and were also available via phone and email to answer any queries.
The WtW accommodation in Nepal was excellent; there were plenty of communal spaces and amenities, and these were very-well maintained. Each day, the housekeeping staff ensured the cleanliness of the communal areas, bedrooms and bathrooms. Additionally, there was 24hr on-site security to ensure the safety of the students.
The hospital placement was a very eye-opening experience. I was supported by the programme manager and assistant programme manager, who gave me an idea of what to expect for the placement (they also had debriefs with each student every working day). I quickly learnt that healthcare in Nepal is very different to in my home country, due to resource limitations and cultural differences. Despite the differences, I kept an open mind and found things that I will definitely consider when I am working back in my home country. For example, the staff there are very efficient, getting the job done without wasting time and resources. In addition to the hospital placement, there were classes at the house. These were language lessons to help us communicate with patients, and a lesson given by the head of the Emergency Department on any topic we were interested in, such as unique medical cases in Nepal.
At weekends and during public holidays, we were able to explore Nepal. During my 2 week stay, I was able to visit temples, cremation grounds, the Garden of Dreams, and other areas throughout the city. At the weekend, I visited Chitwan for a jungle safari, where I saw many animals and learnt about the Tharu people of Nepal.
The food was tasty and catered to our needs. Breakfast and dinner was provided each placement day and any leftovers were kept so that we could eat outside mealtimes or take food to the hospital. Additionally, there was a barbecue once a week which I really enjoyed.
Overall, despite my short stay with WtW in Kathmandu, I had an eye-opening and life changing experience. I was able to learn first-hand about healthcare in a developing nation, whilst meeting incredible new people and gaining confidence whilst exploring a new country. I feel that 2 weeks was not long enough and I would definitely visit again. WtW exceeded my expectations and I would highly recommend them!

Was in Kathmandu for 6 weeks, and it was an amazing time. A good way to end my university life for sure.
The experiences I had in Nepal were better than I had expected; great people, some very interesting places to visit (the many temples and monasteries, national parks, and the tourist hotspots) and the help I had with Work The World to transition into the lifestyle there was seamless.
Moreso the healthcare experience I had being there was definitely something that I had not seen before and it was truly eye opening on how contrasting it was to my home experience.
The accomodation provided met all my needs and the people there were incredibly helpful. It was clean, the food provided was catered to our personal needs and I never felt hesistant about asking for help.
Overall my expectations were exceeded in Kathmandu.

Everything was perfect and well organised. When the house was completely full, it was a bit too crowded for me.

I went to Kathmandu Nepal with work the world. It was an amazing experience. The staff are very welcoming and everything was very organised. My nursing placement was fantastic and I really enjoyed seeing how different the healthcare systems are in different countries, they are most certainly resourceful! I am a mature student but the housemates were all very respectful and professional but I made some life long friends. The accommodation is really comfortable and the food that is cooked is amazing. Always plenty of food and snacks to grab and they ask you to treat it as your home, it was really lovely, on my days off I had the opportunity to do lots of sightseeing and exploring Kathmandu. Staff were always on hand day and night to help organise anything you needed or if you needed anything. I would defo recommend work the world!

I cannot recommend Work the World enough for anyone looking to do an internship abroad. My experience in Nepal was truly unforgettable thanks to all the support and guidance. Once I arrived in Nepal, the in-country staff went above and beyond to make me feel welcome and comfortable. They were always there to assist with any questions I had, and their knowledge of the local area and culture was great in helping me navigate my new surroundings.
The internship placement itself was good, and I was able to gain valuable experience in nursing and the healthcare system in Nepal. If you are considering an internship abroad, I highly recommend choosing Work the World. You won't be disappointed!

In the months leading up to my trip, and throughout my 4-week journey in Nepal, I received ongoing guidance and support from very kind and approachable staff. It is a great opportunity to make friends from across the globe and engage in an healthcare placement vastly different from your home country.

I could not recommend work the world more! I spent 4 weeks in Nepal and I had the most incredible time. From arrival at the airport to the village week experience and heading home, I could not have felt more supported and well looked after. I had high expectations before arriving as I had heard great things, but the experience exceeded all of my expectations.

My experience was going to Nepal. I was happy from start to finish. I had some unusual requirements from my school and Tim was very honest explaining the challenges that I might face and his concerns. Even then, they wanted me to have a successful placement. The team in Nepal was wonderful, checking in to make sure I was meeting my goals and making proactive efforts to support me. I would use WTW again if I had the chance. Legit and professional experience.

I recently completed a 4 week placement in Tanzania through work the world. I had the most amazing experience and met so many like minded people. The work the world staff are so nice, friendly and helpful both in country (Tanzania) and the UK. The house was really lovely and located in a safe area with 24/7 security. I would highly recommend work the world if you have an elective to complete or if you are just looking to experience healthcare in another country. There are plenty of opportunities to travel so that you can make the most out of your placement I definitely recommend!

My placement in Vietnam was one of the best experiences I've had in my entire life; I have so many good memories of my time there. The in-country team was really welcoming and always made me feel at home. I met so many amazing people at the hospital (including local Vietnamese medical students) and at the WtW house where I made plenty of friends with other students.
I would definitely recommend this organization to people looking for an elective placement abroad.
