I applied to open an NRI non-PIS account more than a month ago. They charged 500 even before opening a login account. Now for 1-2 months I am still after them following up my application. Two weeks after applying they said they cannot access my application and asked me to apply once again. This was repeated for a second time. I reapplied both times anyway and I'm still waiting for a resolution. I wonder if they cannot even open an account properly how they are going to support live trading and how you can be sure your money is going to be safe with them. If their customer service is so pathetic even before opening the account how is it going to be in the future. Stay away in my opinion. At the same time someone has to challenge legally their practice of taking opening charges without even opening a login account.

I felt powerless after discovering the green energy platform was fake. Once I requested withdrawals, everything stopped. C͟y͟p͟h͟e͟r͟G͟u͟a͟r͟d͟I͟n͟t͟e͟l͟ stepped in, reviewed the details, and recovered my funds. That outcome restored hope.
All 1 star reviews in this website…
All 1 star reviews in this website about zerodha for NRI is very true. They charge upfront and don't open NRI Demat account. They keep says reupload documents with no reason and says resubmit application. Very ever worst customer service with incapable people and management. You don't receive calls, even if you call they says they'll call back after checking which never happens. It's been months, I'm struggling to open account, reaching them by calls & emails and fed up finally. I sent and tried reaching all escalation matrix provided in their website, no one responds. Some are not in company itself, failure notice you will get back. DON'T EVER THINK OF ZERODHA.
A deeply disappointing and frustrating experience with Zerodha, a company I’ll never trust again.
I opened my NRE PIS trading and Demat account with Zerodha in 2024, after submitting all required documents including my PIS letter, NRE bank details, and FATCA/FEMA declarations. Despite repeated confirmations from Zerodha’s support team that my account was correctly set up, it turns out they had internally misclassified my account as NRO Non-Repatriable, even though it appeared everywhere as an NRE PIS account.
This critical backend error went undetected for over a year, during which I executed trades via the PIS route meaning funds were debited directly from my NRE PIS account. If the backend was wrongly classified, how were trades even allowed? This points to a serious compliance and operational failure in Zerodha’s systems that could have exposed me to RBI and SEBI violations through no fault of mine.
After countless support tickets and long back-and-forth communications, Zerodha finally admitted their mistake but instead of fixing it, they asked me to sell all my holdings, close the account, and start over from scratch with a new application. Their so-called “solution” required me to fill out ten documents, provide multiple self-attested proofs, and physically courier everything again all because of their own internal negligence.
Even worse, their support and compliance teams contradicted each other repeatedly, at first assuring me it could be corrected through an amendment form, and then later backtracking, saying that was not possible. It was clear they had no clarity or ownership of the issue.
Their ecosystem is also extremely restrictive and poorly designed. Without a Demat account with Zerodha, you can’t even use their Coin app for mutual funds. For NRIs, they don’t provide a SIP (Systematic Investment Plan) option to automate monthly investments. You only discover these limitations (often the regulatory ones) after creating an account, it’s impossible to clearly see what services they actually provide or how to place orders based on their help documentation.
For almost every issue, you have to raise a support ticket and deal with an inexperienced and inconsistent support team that rarely provides clear answers. If your problem isn’t straightforward, which is often the case, you’re completely at their mercy.
After months of wasted time and sheer frustration, I finally closed my account.
Zerodha’s handling of NRI accounts has been nothing short of careless, confusing, and non-compliant. Their lack of accountability, weak internal controls, and poor communication have completely destroyed my trust in them.
If you are an NRI considering Zerodha, think twice. Their systems are clearly not equipped to handle NRE/PIS accounts correctly, and you may end up caught in a mess that you didn’t create.

For NRI Account Opening
- Horrible customer service: I work in Germany and this customer service guy calls me at random times in the middle of office. And when i tell him that i am busy so he should call me back later (MULTIPLE TIMES), he just ignores it and continues with what he has to say
- Only application portal is filled with bugs. i have been trying to send the details since July and it is already October but still there is one or the other think missing or not working
incredibly Disappointing Experiene
I have had an incredibly disappointing experience with Zerodha, and I feel it's imperative to share my concerns. Their level of professionalism is alarmingly low. I attempted to open an NRI account, and the account opening portal misleadingly suggested a seamless and automated process. This could not be further from the truth.
The first step required me to pay a fee upfront, even before completing the account opening process. I complied and paid the fee, only to encounter significant roadblocks in the subsequent steps. After realizing that my money was taken without any promise or ability to open an account, I raised a complaint. This situation is not only frustrating but also suggests a lack of accountability and integrity on their part.
When I raised the issue, their relationship manager contacted me, asking for a physical copy of an extensive list of documents, all of which needed to be notarized. When I inquired about a refund, given that the account was never opened, he outright refused. This behavior is nothing short of a scam.
I strongly urge anyone considering Zerodha to stay away from this company. They are not to be trusted with your money or your time.
Not a great experience
Not a great experience ! The overall process with customer support is not great and not in the high standards of the award winning SPSCE BANK, which i got to know through a friend . I have had no single regret about them .
Hassle free and good pay
I’m extremely disappointed and frustrated
I’m extremely disappointed and frustrated with Zerodha's Kite platform and the overall lack of responsibility shown by their support and compliance teams. Despite completing all necessary steps and following up repeatedly, there has been no resolution to my compliance profile review for days – even months. The delays are unjustified, communication is vague, and there's no clear timeline provided.
For a platform that claims to be tech-driven and customer-focused, Zerodha has completely failed to deliver even the most basic customer service. It’s unacceptable that users are left hanging without access to their funds, especially when everything has been done on our part.
I trusted Zerodha, but after this experience, I can no longer recommend this platform to anyone. If you care about timely access to your investments and reliable customer support, look elsewhere.
Worst experience
Worst experience, their site is having so many problems, data reset, email link for uploading doesn't work. Every time they ask for doc when you login it says review under progress, how am I suppose to upload the doc. Document required should be based on NRI country but they ask all docs from India like bank account, ITRS etc. Very bad experience. Just waste of time and money to Open account.
Worst trade broker
Worst trade broker. Absolutely no no service, arrogant staff ,poor response on complaints. On the whole avoid Zerodha. I recommend Angel one. Fyers and Sharekhan.
I am holding stocks with Zerodha but slowly selling stocks to get rid of this stupid stock broker
Need to manually reconcile, AMO does not work, the list is endless
As an NRI investor, managing trades between Kite and Smallcase is quite challenging. There's no automatic sync — I'm forced to manually reconcile every trade using CSVs, match stock names, quantities, and dates, which is both time-consuming and error-prone. AMO (After Market Orders) also often doesn’t work reliably, making it hard to invest from different time zones. Additionally, the user interface across both platforms feels unintuitive and lacks clarity, especially when navigating between holdings, trades, and reports. For platforms designed to simplify investing, these friction points create a frustrating experience. I hope more seamless integration, better support for NRIs, and thoughtful UI improvements are considered moving forward.
Very complex process of mobile app code…
Very complex process of mobile app code generation. I have been trying fir the past 6 hours how to get it. Even their demo is not useful. If they cone to PTP method, ee would have saved time.
Horrible experience.
Not good for NRIs
Tough process for NRIs. My employer does not provide company logo on salary slips, but zerodha kept asking me it with logo which is not possible. Wasted 500 rs account opening fees
RCBBBBBBBB.
Such a nuisance to close an account.
Such a nuisance to close an account.. A new account is created so quickly but if you want to close the same account, they will make your life hell.
Worst NRI services
Their customer service is highly incompetent. These guys still owe me my account opening fees which they keep ignoring.
I tried to open an account with them while in US. First their online application portal does not work as it keeps storing incomplete infornation. Then you keep getting automated replies like "address mismatch" from customer service without telling you whats wrong with the address. Later it becomes a game of trial and error to guess what might be wrong.
After trying for months and waiting for weeks to get reply, they asked me to fill an offline form, which is some 40 pages form.
After confirming that the offline forms are filled correctly, i posted my documents where i had to update a page for consistent passport pics.
After spending 6k INR to send the documents and wait for 4 weeks, they asked me to send my documents again as there is a slight mismatch in my signatures + now they asked me to send another form which they recently added as a requirement. There were like 20+ signatures in the whole documentation and they only picked it up for the signature on the updated page.
I know its all the drama to send the newer form which they forgot to tell me about earlier. Just hiding behind lame excuses.
So a person who never had issue with opening NRI accounts while sitting in US has to go through this stupid tail chasing with zerodha customer service.
Then they kept telling me for weeks that they are handling my case. Till date i got no proper answer other than saying that they will send my docs back to Indian address (which is of no use to me) when i said i am not interested anymore.
Wasted 5 months of my time, 6000 INR to send the docs, time i took off my from my office to get documents notarized, account opening fees to deal with Zerodha's idiotic process.
And now they dont even reply if they will return my docs to my US address and reimburse my account opening fees.
Worst experience I had.
Fraud app to doing trade in this app
Fraud app to doing trade in this app, they making changes unnecessary. With out trading also day by day my amount decrease in my account with out reason.
Zerodha Referral scam
Beware, investors! Zerodha's referral program is not the avenue of prosperity it purports to be; it is, instead, a treacherous labyrinth of deceit and exploitation. My foray into this purportedly lucrative endeavor quickly devolved into a harrowing saga of betrayal and dishonesty.
Entrusting in Zerodha's purported integrity, I eagerly embarked on their referral program, only to be ensnared in a web of clandestine policies and arbitrary enforcement. Despite my meticulous adherence to their ostensible guidelines, I found myself summarily blacklisted, devoid of elucidation or recourse.
Peeling back the layers of obfuscation, I uncovered a disquieting truth: Zerodha's professed commitment to transparency and fairness is a mere veneer, concealing a callous disregard for the welfare of their clientele. Their duplicitous tactics lay bare the insidious machinations of a company willing to sacrifice integrity on the altar of profit.
My admonition to prospective participants is unequivocal: exercise prudence and vigilance. Zerodha's referral program is not a pathway to prosperity; it is a quagmire of duplicity and subterfuge. Proceed with caution, lest you fall victim to the same fate that befell me.
In summation, Zerodha's referral program is an indictment of their ethical bankruptcy. To engage with such an entity is to court disillusionment and betrayal. Let this serve as a beacon of warning amidst the murky waters of financial enticement.
