I first heard about this property fifteen years ago through a friend, and it's taken me until now to finally make the trip. Worth every year of the wait.
I spent much of my time doing what I love — cycling from the villa along the coast roads east towards La Herradura and Almuñécar, and in the other direction through La Caleta, Vélez-Málaga, and up into the hills to Sayalonga. Perfect cycling country, and a wonderful base to return to each evening. But it's Al Ladino itself that stays with you. The views are spectacular — looking down over Nerja and the bay, with the mountains to the east sitting bold on the horizon. My partner was more than happy to let the scenery come to her, spending long, contented hours reading in the sun. What struck us both was how difficult it is to categorise this place. It doesn't feel like a holiday rental in any conventional sense — it feels like someone's beautifully considered home, and you happen to be the lucky guests. The attention to detail is remarkable. We talked about it a lot over the week, kept coming back to the same conclusion: it feels like a genuine discovery. Highly recommended.

Just returned from a week at Al ladino and we thought it was a bargain price for the quality of the accommodation. The property has been beautifully and thoughtfully restored and has a lot more character than most run of the mill rental accommodation. Very well appointed with clear guides and a load of useful information about the area. Also, the garden was wonderful, stunning views over the Nerja and to the sea. Felt like a real oasis away from the town centre. Would highly recommend.

WOW !!! Just arrived back from a 7 night stay at Al Ladino (October). What a special place this is, for many reasons. The villa itself is an absolute gem. The views are truly spectacular too. The attention to detail is second to none both inside and outside the villa. Beautifully furnished, well maintained pool, patios and garden. Everything you could wish for was there.....and more. An abundance of hot water and a powerful shower also. Once inside the gate entrance....it was like stepping into an Oasis. Danny, the host, has thought of everything to make your stay special. Details regarding the property and directions to get there were extremely informative. He also provided further information regarding the area, restaurants, walks, places to visit etc. Nothing was an issue or too much trouble. He and his team were a pleasure. I cannot recommend Al Ladino enough.....although selfishly I want to keep it all to myself. I could go on and on....but you need to visit to experience this slice of heaven.

What a great March break ! We spent a couple of weeks at Al Ladino and loved the characterful cottage, the situation, superb views, the tranquillity and the proximity to Nerja and local restaurants along the coast ! With it's own private swimming pool and stunning views from the garden area this cottage, which is fitted out to a really high standard, certainly has the Wow Factor !

El Monte Bajo really has the ‘wow’ factor. It is a beautiful villa with a wonderful pool and a fabulous garden. The house has been beautifully renovated and is obviously very much loved by the owner. It is very spacious and comfortable with every convenience. It is quiet but within a short drive of Nerja. The owner is really helpful and very quick to respond to any query. Just book it!

A high quality, beautifully decorated and maintained villa with wonderful views and lots of lovely attention to detail. The outside space had well chosen planting and different seating areas and views despite being relatively small. The pool was perfect for what we needed. The kids loved the outside space and the coloured lights at night. We loved the tranquility and beauty. Danny and his team are all super helpful and supportive. Highly recommended.

Wow what a beautiful villa in beautiful surroundings, peaceful , calm , tranquil , I cannot express my thanks to danny and his team , especially Jose the maintenance man very helpful, danny was on hand for any of our problems at any hour it was a pleasure to stay here and I definitely will be going back , there is a lovely restaurant at the bottom of the road called Avalon which is also amazing and does great food ,I would highly recommend this to anyone who is going to nerja excellent villa and hosts , thank you once again danny and team

We loved Al Ladino. Its peace and tranquility set in a classy and stylish setting was just what we were looking for. Danny could not have been more helpful and the views of the sea and mountains and what early morning coffee or an evening glass of wine was designed for.

We were searching for sun, peace,comfort, beauty and Spanish views. That’s exactly what we got at Al Ladino. Yes there’s a drive to the top of the hill but that’s fun and so worth it as the villa is so perfectly situated for the most fantastic views of Nerja and the Alpujarras. The villa is very well laid out on one level, very Spanish with all the facilities you could possibly need. Very comfortable beds and fully equipped kitchen. Exceptionally well maintained and just very pretty. Only 15 minutes drive into Nerja and the fit could walk!! We loved it and will definitely be back!

Our week at Al Ladino has been a joy. You instantly relax in this oasis of calm and comfortable living, enjoying all the tasteful touches that abound in this delightful villa. Danny, the owner, employs such a lovely team of people to look after the property that on arrival, it was as if we were visiting friends! Small pool but beautifully formed, great barbecue and for the three of us, Al Ladino felt spacious and special. We have just returned from a fabulous fortnight staying in Al Ladino, our first holiday in three years and oh my goodness it was everything we hoped for and more! The views are superb - out to sea, up into the mountains and across Nerja! It is never easy finding a villa to suit us and our two teenagers but Al Ladino has excellent Wi-Fi, tv and an outdoor life (including the well cared for pool) to meet all our needs and privacy to boot! At home we live quite rurally so try and look for somewhere on holiday that is away from the crowds - and Al Ladino ticked all the boxes. The local beach is perfect (just a twenty minute walk) and a great place for an early evening beer/G&T before the return walk up the hill. My husband and 16 year old regularly ran (despite the high temperatures) finding superb routes and places for rugby training drills!!
Danny and his lovely wife provided excellent advice on places to visit, walk and eat - all our needs were more than catered for! The team who look after the villa are amazing, ensuring the villa is spotless on arrival and some thoughtful goodies in the fridge - even a beautifully prepared salad - a real treat after a long journey. There are a variety of supermarkets to choose from just 5-10mins drive away. We ate out a couple of times but due to dietary requirements mainly enjoyed using the BBQ at Al Ladino! I could keep going but I think you get the picture - enjoy!

We have been having family holidays in Nerja every few years for 30 years and this is simply the best place we have found. We have stayed in a couple of other lovely houses but they have been much further from Nerja and from the sea. Al Ladino is a top quality villa in a wonderful position and we loved it. Danny is extremely friendly, efficient and responsive and the other members of the team we met while we were there were equally helpful and pleasant. The view is spectacular - you get both the mountains and the sea, usually it is one or the other. The kitchen is limited but that is made entirely clear in the description of the house, the fridge is a decent size and the BBQ is great. We had a really good stay.

We are currently staying in Al Ladino and wished we booked longer. The house is very welcoming and beautiful and thoughtful in every detail. You find new beautiful details in the decorating every day. The garden with the sea and montains views is a sanctuary although just a short drive to Nerja. Our host Danny is very helpful and has given us many appreciated tips about area, as Where to but organic fruit and nice restaurants. We love it and we will come back!

We just returned from two weeks at Al Ladino and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a wonderful, comfortable place to stay with spectacular views overlooking Nerja and the Mediterranean in one direction, and the Sierra Almijara mountains in another. The house is well appointed with everything you need for a comfortable stay and the pool area is perfect for the warm days and evenings on Costa del Sol. Inside the walls of the property, you feel like you have the mountain top to yourself but you're still only a few minutes drive into Nerja and all the sites and places to eat you could want. It is minutes away from beautiful beaches and also perfect for day trips to Fragiliana, Malaga, Granada and many interesting, historical towns all along the coast. Owner Danny and the staff, including Anna and Jose, were always available to answer any questions or address any issues that come up and assure that the property is in pristine condition. We look forward to returning!

Beautiful house, well matntained and clean? Yes. Stunning location? Yes.
Helpful, carring, responsive owner? Yes.

However there were things that were disappointing. If you want to cook there is a bottled gas hob that has little or no calibration, so it is either on or off (probably all bottled hobs are the same?? I don't know) and a very small, counter-top grill/oven, only big enough for one dish. There is no microwave (I bought one from a charity shop and returned it to the same shop when I left. I offered to leave it but the owner declined). Fridge hinged on the wrong side, small thing but annoying and easily fixed. Dishwasher behind set of double doors, also annoying.

No restaurants in walking distance.

The TV is located in the large cupboard on the opposite side of the room from the sofa, quite a long way away. You cannot move the sofa because it is made of concrete. Inbetween the sofa and the TV is the log burner that cuts the screen the screen in half, this means that you all have to sit together on one side of the sofa. The only other occasional chair is uncomfortable as you can feel the wooden frame at the front through the cushion.

Internet TV gets UK channels but sometimes looses the connection and we had 9 power cuts while we were there, (easily fixed by resetting box outside the house, as long as it's not dark). 15 steep steps, down/up to property, handrail only half way.

The master bedroom is open to its ensuite as the wall/door does not extend to the full height of the ceiling, privacy issues?? You have to walk through the second bathroom to get to the second bedroom again possible privacy issues.

Garden faces east.

Very twisty, windy (single track in parts) road up to the property, if you meet a vehicle coming the other way somebody has to back up.

Just a heads up if any of these issues may be a problem for you. Not complaints, observations.

We just returned home again after a terrific holiday. We wanted escape the doom and gloom at home to relax and take a breather.
It's a blessing we found this villa. Al Ladino has been our own little sanctuary. Perfect place at the perfect time.

Booking was quite a pleasant experience, very personal and friendly.
The cottage itself just so darn cute and the views really do take your breath away.
On colder evenings and rainy days we'd light up the fireplace. On blessed sunny days we unwinded in the beautiful garden.

Al Ladino is one of those places where the weather doesn't matter, we were enjoying ourselves inside as well as outside.
Taking afternoon excursions, curling up with a book, lazy mornings with breakfast in bed, having our own little spa morning, sipping wine at the fireplace, watching the stars with cocoa and a blanket, just enjoying life and each other. We did it all!

We had a marvellous stay that we'll need to do again as soon as possible. Next time we'll bring my parents as we are sure they will love it too!

Wow what can we say! Previous reviewers say it all. We were lucky enough to stay in Al Ladino for 2 weeks over Christmas 2021. We had previously stayed with family next door at El Monte Bajo and were absolutely captivated by the villa & the location. This time there were only 2 of us & Al Ladino was available. It was perfect. The weather was very kind the first week & we enjoyed breakfast by the pool in the sun with the glorious views in the distance. The second week it was very wet but again we were cosy & warm & made full use of the wood burner. The villa is beautifully decorated with everything provided for your convenience. It is very spacious both the main room & a very big bedroom & bathroom. I enjoyed watching the sun rise from the bed. Ana had left us a lovely welcome pack with fresh fruit. The second week she also decorated the villa beautifully with Christmas decorations & a tree. Danny, as usual kept in touch & was very helpful with restaurant recommendations. Highly recommended- we hope to return.
