Arlo Essential 2nd generation camera

Cameras easy to set up and work well. Bought different wall mounts off Amazon to give me more options on positioning as the ones supplied with cameras are a bit limited. Great cameras would highly recommend pick up motion well and clear images. Also comes with a light and sound capture and comes with the option of a siren or the ability to talk to intruders.

Would Not recommend

Would Not recommend.
For the price and extremely unhelpful customer service issues it is not worth it.
I was having issues with the doorbell and camera systems as they were unresponsive to charging, the customer service team told me to run the entire, complex diagnostic reset (that of what you would expect a highly trained engineer to come and do), when this didn’t resolve the issues they stopped responding (this was 4 months ago now) and run me in circles trying to raise new queries.
They have increased the many prices involved in the running of the doorbell/ cloud storage/ cameras to fund their new unwanted and frankly dangerous AI inclusions.
The app is unusable and the system is fickle and hard to reconnect to once the battery dies (if yours is wireless).
If you don’t mind paying too much for a system that only works some of the time (when it works it is good however) then Arlo is for you.

I have tried and tried to cancel my…

I have tried and tried to cancel my subscription through the website, the app, the chatbot, support help. Every time I get to the option to cancel I get a message "saying arlo not currently available try again later".
There is no email contact! No telephone contact! I did find email to deliveries of orders. Begged for help from Arlo orders department. Got a reply saying " we cannot help this is nothing to do with orders" I persistered and requested my email to be passed to support. Reply same as last time. The structure of this business is designed to stop customers cancelling. The only way I can get there attention is to stop my payments through my bank. Which I have done. Got a message on the app saying " we cannot process your payment please update your payment details" i thoughts are. Arlo look at the CUSTOMER! details I gave you and contact me by emai. Watch this space. Disgusting! Customer Service does not exist. Very very disappointed with the product and the service.
I have received a response from Arlo I supplied my email address as requested in my response. Then here we go again another request for contact information. It is going on and on. The Customer Service just terrible. Just send me a email on the email address I have supplied to two different areas of your business, one refused to help and now you are sending me more links which AGAIN do not work. Over to you Arlo sort this out.

May as well leave the front door open......

Stick the Protected by Arlo sticker in your front window. You may as well leave your front door open.

Had Gen 1 system and it functioned. Nothing spectacular but worked.

Decided to upgrade to Gen 3 and nothing prepared me for this. Hardware was ok. But the software is a disgrace. Scheduling and automation is confusing as it is unclear what takes precedence, a scheduled command or a geofence command? It seems neither.

Oh and the support centre is only open Mon to Fri 9-5. I'm sorry but I have a job.

No out of hours support when I am actually at home and trying to get the system to work.

Returning for a full refund.

Customer service is non-existent. You’d have better luck finding an unicorn than actually getting through to anyone at Arlo for any assistance.

I would give zero stars if I could. My Arlo app has updated. I have lost connection to a hub and cameras I cannot get them back onto the app as apparently they cannot be found. I’m still getting notifications for the missing hub and cameras but there is no way I can access them to see what they are. Customer service is non-existent. This has been going on for a month. The app was working perfectly fine until they did the update. I have tried contacting Arlo on numerous occasions but no luck at all.  I am now left with a useless piece of kit. I would not recommend Arlo as there is no customer service.

If your Arlo SmartHub has disappeared from the app and isn't now being detected during setup, please first make sure that your mobile device is connected to the same network as your SmartHub (which is connected via LAN). Also check that the LED on the SmartHub is solid green, as this indicates it is properly online. For full troubleshooting steps, please visit:

If instead you're unable to access your account, the cause will depend on what exactly is happening. Video quality and capture time

It lags from time to time. The recording cuts off. In my case, I primarily uses for Arlo Door bell. When a person approaches, it does caputure the video images but then when the person moves away it doesn't record the images, so unable to see the person moving away. Also the video sometimes freezes, takes too long to view the live video when the bell is pressed.

I purchased a two set security cameras…

I purchased a two set security cameras directly online from Arlo! My package was delivered somewhere else!
When I tried to contact customer service the only access I could find was a chat link online with a robot!
They wanted me to put my card details in online to purchase a link to speak to a human! After refusing many times I was given a phone number! Phoned them and I was told that because I hadn’t purchased a subscription with the cameras I couldn’t get any help!
I was asked to call back a few days later, I did so and they gave me a case number and an email to make my request for a refund!
Had an auto reply, so 2 days later I called again, I was told again to contact the email address and supply more information! I did this and they replied saying that there was no post code on the purchase form!
But what they didn’t realise was that I actually contacted the courier service before I contacted them and I was given the postcode that was ( apparently) on the parcel, it wasn’t mine!
So someone between my ordering and the item being dispatched OR on arrival that the couriers hub the wrong postcode was added!
This company are now saying that it is unlikely that I will get a refund! This cost me £99.99! It’s a lot of money to lose! So my review for this company is one of disgust, disappointment and distrust.

Shockingly high subscription increases — loyal customers treated terribly

I’ve had an Arlo Pro 3 system for around four years. I paid roughly £260 for the kit, which included a year of subscription. Once that year ended, Arlo made it clear that without a paid plan, most of the functionality disappears — something they don’t exactly shout about when you buy the product.
Two years ago, the subscription jumped to £160 per year. This year, they’ve pushed it again to an unbelievable £230 per year. That’s an eye‑watering increase and completely unjustifiable. To make it worse, at the same time they were trying to charge me £230 for a subscription, they were running a promo offering three new cameras, all the mounting hardware, and setup for £240. It really shows how little they value existing customers.
I complained, and after a lot of hassle they eventually offered 20% off — but only because I pushed hard. It shouldn’t take that much effort just to be treated fairly.
On top of that, the batteries don’t hold up well after 3–4 years, so you’re looking at more cost there too.
As an experienced long‑term user, my advice is simple: don’t waste your money. The hardware is fine, but the subscription model and the way they treat loyal customers is shocking.

Not as Useful as We'd Hoped.

The Arlo door bell camera works very well for seeing who has been to the door. However the microphone that should allow us to speak to people ringing the bell to give instructions is so muffled that they can't understand or is so delayed that they've usually walked away before instruction can be given thought it. Thought it might be a problem with the WiFi but we have a repeater about 2 meters away.

Disappointing, all we can do is to rely on video footage recorded rather than speak to people. Not as useful as we thought it would be.

The poor sound quality and delay you’re experiencing with your Arlo Video Doorbell may be caused by insufficient upload speed. Our Video Doorbells require up to 2 Mbps upload speed per device to function properly. You can run a speed test here: https://www.speedtest.net

Even if the Video Doorbell is close to the router, the Wi‑Fi signal may still be weakened by obstacles or strong Wi‑Fi interference in the area. You can check your Video Doorbell’s signal strength in the Arlo Secure app by going to 'Devices'.

If you’re referring to poor image quality when night vision is enabled, please first ensure that your Arlo camera is not pointed toward reflective surfaces. Reflections can cause the infrared light to bounce back into the lens, resulting in a degraded image. You should also check that the infrared (IR) LEDs are actually turning on. You can verify this by looking at the front of the camera; if you see a faint red glow, the IR LEDs are active.

Additionally, make sure your camera is not pointed toward another camera or any device with infrared LEDs, as your Arlo camera can detect IR light from any external infrared source.

pessime. da evitare

pessime, in quanto sia la prima installata era malfunzionante ed ho chiuso occhio inquanto il sistema di protezione funzionava nonostante la schifosa videocamera faceva parte del kit installato. poi ben due volte il tecnico dell'allarme di sicurezza aprendo davanti a me le scatole installava ed ogni volta doveva tornare poichè il dispositivo non funzionava. sono ancora in attesa con quel dispositivo che muto(nonostante altoparlanti e microfono sono attivati) e la registrazione comincia a colori 2 cesondi poi passa a bianconero da solo, ha qualche eclissi a volte. non è possibile che ogni videocamera scartata rappresenta qualche difetto e non funziona
